My HH canon (?
Okay. I really didn't want to write this much. But basically:
I feel like Lucifer does fit the Sin of Pride, but at the same time he doesn't. He's clearly kind of a simp.
Lilith is actually the prouder one of the two, and I think the punishment is shared between them.
I feel like, because Lilith was the one who "rejected" and tempted humanity with knowledge, her punishment became indifference. In other words, everything that could have fascinated her no longer does. Everything is boring, everything is empty. That's why Charlie and Lucifer desperately seek her attention. Lilith never stopped loving Lucifer, but she's so hollow inside that, whether she's with him or without him, everything tastes like sand.
Lilith is also very independent. I like to think she never really got used to the idea of being a mother or a wife. In her early years, she wasn't fully committed to Lucifer in the traditional sense of being a romantic partner. She was more free-spirited, exploring different experiences and living life on her own terms.
Charlie wasn't born from Lilith. Following the original story, I like to imagine Lilith is so indifferent toward Charlie because she didn't actually give birth to her. Instead, Lucifer used his magic to create a baby so that he and Lilith could experience what it was like to be parents. Ironically, that ties into another part of Lilith's punishment: "You will never create anything. You are not pure. Nothing will ever be born from you." And I don't mean just children. It could apply to many things.
Lilith used to empower demons. As Vox mentioned, she gave them strength, and I don't think she was ever truly interested in waging war against Heaven. I think Lilith wanted to change sinners in order to prove that she and Lucifer weren't wrong for giving humanity free will. But over time, she realized that no matter how hard she tried, they simply didn't want to change, and that frustrated her. On top of that, Lucifer himself was starting to get on her nerves.
8. Charlie is a creation of Lucifer. He took Lilith's entire structure and created a baby from it. Which brings me to the next point.
9. Adam and Lilith were inspired by Lucifer and Sera. If I think about it, Lilith and Adam are as tall as Sera, but they have Lucifer's hairstyle. Lilith shares Lucifer's color palette, while Adam resembles Sera's, just adapted to human skin tones, I suppose. Adam wasn't evil. Okay, honestly, all the wasted potential in Adam really bothers me. Here are my points:
a) Adam wasn't an unjustified villain. They could have given him an actual reason to hate demons so much, and I have a theory about that.
b) Adam wasn't bad, but being cast out of Paradise changed him. Imagine this: one day you're peacefully sleeping among wild animals that adore you. The next day, you try to pet a boar and it charges at you, injuring you. For the first time in your life, you see your own blood.
Suddenly, your wife starts bleeding every month. You have to provide food and shelter for both of you, protect your family, hunt, survive. That would make anyone tougher. He became more controlling because Eve was very passive. When his children were born, he became colder and more reserved because now he had to raise them and teach them how to survive.
Worst of all, you begin to wonder whether one of your children is even yours (referring to the idea that Lucifer was involved with Eve), and that breeds even more resentment.
Then you die and return to the very Heaven that cast you out.
(Assuming something like Purgatory exists in between.)
People treat you kindly. You're welcomed with praise for all your struggles and sacrifices. You become egotistical because, all of a sudden, you're being treated with kindness again. Your hatred toward demons grows because you see yourself as a victim of the entire situation. Not to mention that Lucifer was involved with both your original companion, Lilith, and your wife, Eve.
My final point!
Hell is Purgatory.
We know that God is an inherently good entity, just as there are inherently evil entities. God is a being who, despite humanity's mistakes, has shown the ability to forgive and accept anyone who serves a greater good beyond their own actions (see the Helluva Boss short).
I feel that if God didn't give second chances, sinners would simply cease to exist, and only the "saved" would enter Heaven. That's why Sir Pentious was able to get into Heaven: he redeemed himself from his sin, which was cowardice. If Lucifer genuinely repented for everything he had done, they would probably allow him back into Heaven as well.
In fact, I sometimes wonder if his "punishment" is even real. Knowing Lucifer's personality, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't actually being punished at all, and it's simply his own conscience telling him, "Hey, you're separated from God's creation, the very creation you helped damage by giving humanity free will," causing him to unconsciously repress himself.
However, after seeing his fight with Adam, I doubt he truly feels that way about sinners, so that theory falls apart.
LUCIFER WILL NEVER RETURN TO HEAVEN
As I said before, Lucifer is not sorry for what he did. Honestly, I don't think the show's explanation that he was "too much of a dreamer for his own good" really fits him.
I see Lucifer more like Pink Diamond: someone viewed as a fool who was always getting into trouble. The most beautiful creation in Heaven, perhaps, but still seen as a fool nonetheless.
I also think Lilith empowered him, and that he doesn't regret giving humanity free will. Yes, he's deeply depressed, but he still believes what he did was right, and that's exactly why he can't return to Heaven.
I feel like Lilith is the true embodiment of Pride, and that she's convinced Lucifer that their actions were justified. I'm not trying to blame her, not at all, but I think their decision came from two different desires: Lucifer was far too restricted in Heaven, while Lilith wanted more than she was supposed to have, symbolized by the apple.
Together, they created this narrative of, "What we did wasn't wrong. Humans deserve the freedom to choose."
And I think Lilith doesn't regret it because she believes she empowered humanity, while Lucifer doesn't regret it because he still stands by the choice he made.
End.
