it takes quite a bit of social intelligence for a creature to understand:

I know what I am doing is wrong

I know there is an activity that looks similar that is not wrong

If I am quick I can plausibly pass one off as the other

these cats are displaying remarkable theory of mind skills by not only registering that the humans can perceive them but actively trying to manipulate that perception! that requires one to be aware that other individuals have complicated interior thoughts of their own, to know that those thoughts are not always based on truth, and to quickly decide on the best possible “lie” for the situation. this is why I despise animal intelligence tasks based on obedience— some of the most clever moments stem from intelligent disobedience.

why is bdubs an earthbender? id say air or maybe fire, since he’s way too pathetic to be an earthbender and he can’t stand by his own choices. he apologizes the whole time he’s betraying tango in last life, instead of trying to find a way to clear boogeyman without stabbing his benefactor in the back.

Hi anon, no worries! I decided to make him an earthbender mostly because to me he's a a king at terraforming and building, which to me fit more with the earth kingdom. For the firebenders I tried to pick people who were either very good at redstone, or blowing things up (cough grian cough). As for an airbender, he feels a bit too down to earth to me, very loud and shouting, he gives me the impression that he stomps when he walks. Since in atla earthbenders are said to be very grounded people, it just resonated to me more :)
