I saw a post a couple days ago talking about how Tim was the one to start the Jason Slander (ie being reckless), and when Dick started he was being written by people who hated Jason, and Bruce didn’t start until ~2000-2002 (he came back in 2005), and it got me thinking. (Also important to note is Alfred’s horrific levels of classism)
A period where Jason is technically a Bat again, but he avoids the Cave if he can help it. Everyone is on comms (except Duke, he has an actual sleep schedule), and something happens where Tim is about to jump into a fight with like 30 guys or something without backup, but Jason basically scruffs him like “what the fuck is wrong with you” since his problem has always been “there is a child in a suit, despite two of us dying” and not with Tim himself. Just like, Jason going mother hen “that was incredibly reckless,” and lecturing him, only for Tim to grumble something about hypocrisy. And Jason, genuinely baffled, just goes “what the fuck are you talking about?” Because if you look at the times he’s called reckless, there’s a very clear pattern of him letting his emotions get the better of him when Fucked Shit is happening, which like,,,, *looks at Bruce*
Idk, just everyone falling silent because the narrative for so long has been that Jaybin was reckless, only for Jason himself to genuinely have no clue about it. And it ends up with Jason being like “do you want me to go over each individual time I was called reckless while Robin?” And Steph is listening to this about to lose her fucking mind because she was compared to him while Robin and told that was a bad thing, only for Jason to be like “so the first one is when I found out Two-Face murdered my biological father and B had to stop me from committing homicide-” and Dick has to be like “oh, like the reason Robin was created in the first place?” Bc of Zucco, and then all the times he was called too angry were because the people he was roughing up were human traffickers or rapists, and when he died it was because his biological mother literally sold him to the Joker. Idk, I just want Jason to say something like “unlike you and Nightwing, I always had a reason to be reckless,” and Bruce just pipes up with a quiet “it’s true.”
Because Tim didn’t know Jason before he died. At all. And sure, his righteous fury when he came back fell in line with that anger, but who wouldn’t be angry to come back to life only to see that your murderer regularly walks free and no lessons had been learned given a second kid died in the same fucking costume as you? That’s objectively fucked up. But even when actively taunting Bruce in his crime lord days, Jason isn’t reckless. He’s methodical. It only takes him a month to completely demolish Black Mask’s empire, and five weeks after he returns to Gotham is the confrontation with Bruce and the Joker, by which point he has control of Batman’s R&D department, the eight most prominent drug lords in the city, and has had Black Mask ask the Legion of Doom for help getting rid of him (which doesn’t work since they severely underestimated him and also Bruce happened to be arguing with him when the people sent to kill him show up and they collaborate to take them out).
I guess I just like the idea of them having to confront all these blatant lies that have been told about him after he died and come to terms with the fact that they were shitting on a dead teenager who didn’t even do those things.
