MINNEAPOLIS IS A WAR ZONE RIGHT NOW. WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT SURVIVAL.
I sat down a few days ago to write a standard “Know Your Rights” post for everyone on the ground in the Twin Cities. I wanted to tell you about the Fourth Amendment. I wanted to tell you that they need a signed judicial warrant to enter your home. I wanted to give you the script to say “I do not consent to this search.”
But I realized I would be lying to you if I said that mattered right now.
The reality on the streets of Minneapolis is that ICE is operating as a lawless, paramilitary force. They are pulling people out of cars without cause. They are snatching people off the street. We have seen them murder innocents like Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, and face zero consequences. When federal agents are tearing gas peaceful protestors and ignoring court orders, “legal rights” feel like a fairy tale.
You cannot recite the Constitution to a jackboot on your neck and expect it to save you.
So, screw the “legal” advice. If you are in Minnesota, or if you are anywhere in this country watching this nightmare expand, here is the SURVIVAL advice.
IF YOU ARE IN A VIOLENT ZONE / PROTEST:
Do not engage alone. ICE relies on isolation. If you see them grabbing someone, do not physically intervene unless you have the numbers to de-arrest safely (and know what you are doing), but do not let them operate in the dark. Film everything. Stream it. Scream. Make sure they know the world is watching.
Biometrics are dangerous. Turn off FaceID/TouchID on your phone. If you are detained, they will try to force your phone open. Set a long, alphanumeric passcode.
If you are near the protests, wear nondescript clothing. Cover identifiable tattoos. Carry saline for tear gas. Write a lawyer’s number on your arm in permanent marker.
FOR EVERYONE (CITIZEN OR NOT) DEALING WITH ICE:
If they knock, DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR. It doesn’t matter what they say. It doesn’t matter if they say they just “want to talk” or “check your papers.” Unless they batter that door down (which is rare but happening), you keep that physical barrier between you and them. Talk through the door. Slide nothing under it.
Scrub your social media if you are undocumented or organizing. Use Signal with disappearing messages. ICE is using data dragging and AI surveillance, don’t make their job easier by posting your location in real-time.
Know your neighbors. Who is vulnerable? Who has a safe basement?
Minneapolis, we are with you. We see you. We are screaming with you. The law has left the building, so we have to protect each other.
Stay safe. Stay together. Don’t let them take anyone else.
Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF): The heavy lifters. They pay criminal bail and immigration bonds. They are currently overwhelmed by the volume of arrests from the raids and protests.
Midwest Immigration Bond Fund: Specifically focused on paying immigration bonds for those detained by ICE. This is critical because ICE bonds are often set astronomically high to keep people locked up.
LEGAL DEFENSE AND IMMIGRANT PROTECTION
Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM): They are providing direct legal representation to those detained in the recent raids. They are the frontline legal defense against deportation.
The Legal Rights Center: Community-based legal defense. They often represent protestors and have a long history of fighting for racial justice in Minneapolis.
COPAL MN: Comunidades Organizando el Poder y la Acción Latina. They are doing massive grassroots organizing, rapid response training, and legislative advocacy. If you want to fund the movement and community power, give to them.
CAIR-MN (Council on American-Islamic Relations): With the specific targeting of the Somali community in Minneapolis during this operation, CAIR is essential for civil rights defense.

Born 20XX, meet Tiffany Emiliana Villarreal, the only daughter of Elias Villarreal, the business magnate. Majoring in psychology, Tiff (as known by her friends), has always looked into meaning. Even if that meant overanalyzing every interaction and word until it hurt her brain, meaning meant something. Why can two people read the same thing and see two different meanings?
Tiffany has always done "too much". She learned Spanish and Italian from her parents, took French and German lessons ever since she was 8, and took voice lessons, while throwing herself into lyrical, waltz, and ballet classes from 7, 10, and 4, respectively. And that isn't to forget the etiquette classes her tutors recommended after a certain incident* at a party when she was younger. But she needed that. Drowning in work kept her busy, and after her mother passed, she did so much to not only try to make her mother proud, but to distract her father from the hole at the dinner table.
She's kind to almost everyone she meets. While for some reason, she doesn't understand how lower-class people live, she acts kindly simply because she can. Expect well-meaning ignorance and the type of person who expects every cent to be paid back (even though she won't confront you).
She had slowly learned to blend into the elite world, taking etiquette classes and learning to be the absolute best. Yale is a test. Can she make it without the guiding hands of her father and tutors, and can she survive the elite long enough to fool them, to make them believe she belongs there. Old money is old for a reason, and Tiffany needs to learn how to handle it.
Relationships:
Maxwell: She can almost swear that she’s seen his face somewhere, in a headline or an Instagram feed she scrolled by months ago. But here, as the RA who seems nice enough to reassure her of any concerns if needed, Tiff sees a friend. A figure to help now that her father isn’t around, even if that means it’s also another pair of eyes watching. Her paranoia wins a little with this one.
Vanessa: She seems good-natured, and Tiff is trying to let bygones be bygones (keyword trying). She always dreamed of her college roommate being her best friend, so she expects to start putting in the work. Even if their first encounter wasn't... ideal.
Cédric: Tiff always saw Cédric as a rival in school. Her dream to be the best fueled a less-than-positive relationship between the two. (She hated his guts.) But the line between love and hate is so thin, Tiff barely sees it anymore. She developed feelings somewhere between junior year and graduation, and didn’t realize until they both had diplomas in their hands and heads full of dreams. She hoped to set it aside now that they go to school together again, but unfortunately, they still somehow seem to get on each other’s nerves. But hey, at least they aren’t directly competing anymore?
Dumitra: Tiff is a little confused as to how Dumitra functions. How does one actively want to skip such an important event? For a frat party? But she seems close to Cedric, so perhaps she isn't all that bad. (Lord, Tiffany is whipped)
Wilhelm: Who?
Favorite Drink: Monster Assault. Coffee isn’t necessarily her favorite, but something needs to keep her awake. Monster Energy may as well hire her as a consultant, at the rate she consumes these things.
Aesthetic: Light academia
Hamartia: Overreach (if that isn't obvious) (Idealism would be a close second.)
Other Fun Facts:
Her favorite ballet is Romeo and Juliet (Juliet is her dream role- she knows all the choreo). It made her realize her feelings for Cédric the summer before college- she saw a production and the man playing Romeo looked similar to Cédric.
(She had an existential crisis during intermission.)
With 'Emiliana' meaning rival, sometimes she wonders if she and Cédric were meant to be rivals- even if she wants to drop that title now.
She'd drop psychology and her father's business for ballet. But she didn't work this hard to let her father's legacy go to a random cousin.
She almost majored in classics, but she thought psychology might help her more in the future. (AP Psychology was also the only one of her AP classes where she wasn't extraordinary)
**The incident happened when Tiff was 6, when she took a glass out of a champagne tower at one of her family's business conferences. Allegedly, when questioned about the incident, Tiffany would tell anyone who asked, "Buzz off, I'm tired!" And would dramatically pretend to sip from the glass. It gave her parents a heart attack with that one, although Elias found it quite funny.
Tiff was the first mood board I had ever created. She started this journey lol. She's my baby, and I love her to bits and pieces.
One of the few college IFs out there! (Please, I need more school-centered IFs... there's a void and I cannot code.)
Academic rivals to lovers is genuinely my drug of choice. I find it so rarely in fics; thank you so much omg.

Below the cut, this is long. I would like to apologize, I yap.
What do YOU know about Rina Moretti? We bet we know more.
Not mentioned in article: Rina Moretti tends to dress with an academic style in marketing (unless specified otherwise) but outfits are much more casual if allowed. She also can play acoustic guitar.
Born in 20XX to parents who worked high-demand jobs that took them away from home, Rina Moretti (born Carina Moretti) grew up surrounded by music (and still lives at home! Embarrassing!). Sources say her parents aren’t thrilled with her career choice, but her parents declined to comment. Rina attended college, majoring in creative writing, but eventually dropped out and focused on music full time. The band she and her friends created in high school became their main focus.
The name 'Healing Hearts and Tattoos' really came out of nowhere, if you ask any of the members. As things stand now, it could be attributed to the departure of two of their founding members- Jazzy, their drummer, who withdrew to start a family, and Seven Lawless, the now lead singer of Soft Violence (he will be spoken more about later). Their departures and the tattoos that some of the members have. But your guess is as good as ours. Their first EP, How We Were, started their journey. Their fans titled themselves "Bandages", which was chosen by the user @bandages-tin, which has been recently revealed to be a group of teenagers. (Starting them young, I guess.)
The pop band really took off when their single Siren Sounds was released, a part of their album Porch Light. This happens to be the first album made after Seven Lawless departed from the band. The song itself is about a relationship that wants to continue, but would end up destroying itself. Fans speculate that the entirety of Porch Light is a love/goodbye letter to the singer, as hints of Seven seem to disappear from the band’s music following the album's release. The music video seems to have hints sprinkled throughout it as well. A cinematic masterpiece to the fans, Cole (who is assumed to be representing Seven) haunts the narrative, driving Rina’s character, Trina, to a breaking point. Now, we know this is an article about Rina Moretti, but after all these years, Rina Moretti cannot be separated from Seven Lawless. Commonly confused for a couple in the band’s early days, the two never dated throughout their friendship. There are plenty of will-they-won’t-they moments, like the infamous lake incident. We know you know.* But after his departure in the early days of HH&T, neither has been able to stick in a relationship. Rina has been spotted on exactly two dates, but Rina has stated that she has never had an official partner. Is it possible that she’s holding out for the one that got away? Maybe. Ever since their reunion on BOTB, and, thanks to the producers, their roommate situation, this audience hopes for a return of Serina. Although some are heavy on the Savina train, that is a story for another author.
Since Seven’s departure, Rina disappeared from the party scene. Used to going to several parties a night, she stopped attending parties altogether. It’s surprising on its own that she was brought out during BOTB events. This is even more of a surprise, as sources close to the singer state that being famous is something she has always wanted to achieve. And isn’t that done by networking?
To her credit, she hasn’t stopped making friends. Despite what seems to be her very real disdain towards Blake of Underground Wastebasket, she seems to have a close relationship with Gina Reign and a cordial one with Victoria Valentine, which, with the rumors around the validity of HH&T's participation, seems to be causing more harm than good. But she is seen being friendly to nearly every person around her, lighting up a room when she walks in. The roadies from old gigs know her as the girl who always attempted to help them clean up after a show or bring them snacks as a thank you, and she doesn’t hesitate to try and make a fan’s day. Recently, a girl going by ‘Maya’ has been spotted by the press. This girl claims to be one of a select group that runs just about everything fandom-based for HH&T. Rina seems to back up this claim, having been seen with the girl several times so far this season. But one must wonder, is it genuine? Of course, our angel has empathy, but how much of that empathy will get put aside by fame? Sources have stated,
Carina was never a settling kind of girl. She is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. She was always willing to help out for free, and she made friends everywhere she went. But she wanted fame, and nothing could stop her. You might as well help, or get out of her way.
Despite this supposed dream for stardom, she has refused to comment on anything not specifically sent out by Oriana Quinn (her manager) or the BOTB team. She's rarely ever seen in public outside of filming or fan interactions. In fact, Rina herself declined to comment or collaborate with us on this piece. Rina, if you want fame so bad, why don’t you go and take it? Scared? Or are you choking before you can even break the surface? Don’t fly too close to the sun, angel, your wings may fail you.
*The lake incident depicted in a vlog filmed in the early days, when HH&T vlogged consistently, at an Airbnb somewhere in upstate NY, to “help with inspiration”, Iris claimed. The duo can be seen in the background of part of the vlog, swimming around in the lake and pretty much always touching each other, and at one point having an intimate conversation in the shallows. Devyn can be seen attempting to eavesdrop. Rowan makes a comment about it later in the vlog, saying, “the lake seems like your new home, doesn’t it, Car? Or is it just Seven’s-” to which he earned himself a smack upside the head by Jazzy. The vlog is no longer publicly available, taken down about a year after Seven’s departure. Reuploads can be found, though.
Rina was the second MC I’ve ever made for an IF, and she holds a special place in my heart for that. She underwent several changes during the development of Infamous, but she is a version of me that I wanted to be when I first played the game.
I actually chose Healing Hearts and Tattoos as the band name because I misunderstood the timeline. I KNOW IT'S OBVIOUS… I just.. wasn’t paying attention the first time I played the game (probably bc it was like 1am).. and by the time I realized it was far too late, I was attached already.
I KNOW I committed to the article bit but a small part of me wants to write it a different way. Alas.

Did I take liberties? Yes. As far as I know, Seven has never gotten a buzzcut or bleached their hair. I just liked the art…
