Matt was quiet for a moment before pulling you into a hug and pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, “you’d give up everything here for me? You’re more than I deserve.”
“No, it’s the opposite actually,” you gently pushed your hand through his curls, “you’re so, so much more than I deserve, Matty.”

The memory of moving away with Matt pulled tears into your eyes but you blinked them away, not wiling to give him the satisfaction of you crying, even though he was thousands of miles away and you hadn’t spoken in months.
Matthew had moved you, with your blessing of course, to another country and romanced you into thinking you were the only one. Things were great for a few months and you assumed that was your life for the foreseeable future.
Things between the two of you were good.
As time passed, and Matt spent less time at home, you quickly realized ‘good’ wasn’t good enough. He was gone a lot of the time, blaming his absence on hockey, but when he did come home he smelled like perfume you didn’t use.
Shit finally hit the fan when he left you alone for three days, and when he finally came home, he barely bothered to entertain your existence. He slept soundly in bed for several hours while you cried harder than you ever had sitting at the bottom of the shower.

Matthew wasted no time rushing across the room and pulling you into a hard hug before kissing you with more passion than he thought capable, “yes. You belong here.”

It was exhausting pretending to love a man that constantly came home smelling like another woman. You dealt with it in the beginning but you had finally hit your wall and couldn’t deal with your lying, cheating boyfriend anymore.
Instead of breaking down like you would have in the beginning, you were pissed off and ready to get the fuck out of any property that Matthew Tkachuk was attached to. He was gone for a few days and you seized the opportunity to move your shit out of his apartment and into the one you’d found on the other side of town.

“Really? Calgary is so incredibly different than St. Louis.”

Your heart fluttered at his words and you moved to pull him into an impossibly tight hug, “I love you so much baby! I’m so happy I’m here!”

It was closing on midnight and you were more than comfortable in bed when the sound of someone pounding at your door pulled you out of any peace you were feeling. You tried your best to ignore it but the hard knocking continued and you were about to lose your mind.
“Holy fuck,” you didn’t think before ripping your door open, “what the fuck do you want?!”
“Sorry, fuck, I’m sorry,” Matthew raised his hands in defense, “I just want to talk.”
“I don’t,” you closed the door in his face.
“Please,” his voice was faint as he shouted through the door but you heard it.
You pulled the door open with more aggression than necessary, “what do you want?”
“I want to talk.”
“Fine, Matthew, speak.”
He chuckled and you felt a pang of hurt in your chest at sound of it, “I’m sorry, sorry, you’re talking to me like I’m a dog.”
“Aren’t you kind of a dog though?”

You entered your home quietly after a shitty day at work, wanting only to fall into bed with your boyfriend. Removing your shoes and jacket, you heard the sound of your man. Unfortunately it was accompanied by the sound of another female.
Barging into the bedroom, you saw your fiancé beneath a pretty stranger and you, understandably, lost your shit.
It was an ugly scene. You were screaming at Matthew and he was screaming back, his side piece was tucked into the corner of the room trying to stay out of it. She didn’t deserve your anger, it wasn’t her fault your man was a garbage bag, but she got it anyway.

You rolled your eyes into the sky and tried to shut the door on him but he stopped you, “please talk to me?”
“No.”
It was easy. Easier than you thought it would be. Matthew was a player and liar and an asshole and now you knew that.
“Do you want me to leave you alone? Matthew pressed himself against your chest and just inside your apartment, “i’ll leave if you want. Take one more step and, I promise, I’ll do it.”
You took a single step forward, a grin played on your lips while you watched Matt crumble just a little.
