“Welcome to the longest Uber Pool of your life” are the words that Twin Peaks drummer Connor Brodner jokes with as I step into their van. It’s 8:30 in the morning, and I'm following the band for the first two shows of their 18-night December tour, which begins in Detroit and Cleveland. This tour takes the Chicago garage rockers through the Midwest, East Coast and the South before returning for homecoming shows at Thalia Hall and Metro Chicago, and they're joined by openers Los Angeles punks Together PANGEA and L.A. indie rockers Golden Daze. Inside, there’s a mix of exhaustion (like I said, it’s early) and excitement. It’s Twin Peaks’ last trip away from home in 2016 and many shows, held in some of their largest headlining venues yet, have already sold out or are close to selling out.

We are running silent auctions to support the ACLU, @plannedparenthood, and the NAACP at the Chicago gigs this weekend. You can bid on an insane one-off @DTOXDESIGNS piece made specially for these shows at the merch table each night.

2016 was a terrible year that was great for music. A year that sometimes left everyone feeling emotionally, politically and physically drained also gave us some of the best music of the decade so far. With big names like Beyonce , Rihanna and Frank Ocean dropping fantastic blockbuster projects, to Chance the Rapper officially becoming a marquee star, as well as artists at the fringes of their genres making some of the most necessary music in the entire landscape, there was a lot of good things to grasp onto as things got bad in 2016.

Twin Peaks, “Down In Heaven” Following two LPs for scuzz-and-fuzzed-out rockers, Twin Peaks settled into a groove on “Down In Heaven.” Adding multi-instrumentalist and fourth songwriter Colin Croom (on top of the band’s stable of singers Cadien Lake James, Clay Frankel and Jack Dolan), the band has never sounded more confident. Each songwriter has their best work so far with James’ “Walk To The One You Love,” Frankel’s “Butterfly” and Dolan’s “Getting Better.” -Josh Terry
