Neolitsea sericea is in the avocado family Lauraceae. This species is an evergreen tree growing in temperate laurel forests of Japan, where it can reach heights of up to 30 feet tall. Young, emerging leaves hang almost vertically from the crown of the plant, and are covered in dense hairs that give these leaves a golden appearance and velvety texture. As the new leaves mature, they develop their deep green color.

M106 by John Taylor Via Flickr: Around 14 hours of LRGB data captured in March and early April. Deceptively difficult to image, the outer arms have such low surface brightness in contrast to the luminous core of the galaxy. Altair Astro 6" RC and Atik 460ex. Imaged with SGPro and procesed in Pixinsight & CS5. www.facebook.com/cloudedout/
