To say that Mickey had a rough year was an understatement. OF course, he had positive moments , like getting with Siobhan and getting married but it was also rough with Siobhan getting hurt by his ex and than his whole father drama. Even though he had been ignoring him, it wasn’t doing him any good because his nightmares were still there and he was just angry a lot of the time, even though he hid it from most of the people he cared about. He would just go to the gym to calm down before going home or visiting friends. “If you aren’t excited about the holidays, we can’t be friends till after the 1st.” Mickey teased the person before sighing softly. “Despite the roller coaster of the year I’ve had, I am going to make the most of Christmas, because one, I love this holiday and two, I am so ready for a new year. Hoping 2020 is a lot less dramatic then this one was.” He offered the person the cup of hot chocolate. “I’m about to go help at the children’s hospital in a few hours so I have to be in a good mood for that.”

sitting across the table zeke was much too invested in his phone to really hear a damn thing that mickey had said. though from the sounds of the mutters coming from the boy’s lips he had assumed that it was something important. after all it was like five striaght minutes of him just talking about whatever the hell he was going on about. “mhm.. yeah..” he muttered as he just nodded clearly not sure what the other had even said.

honestly it had been a week since zeke had really showed his face to anyone. his life had been full of chaos lately between his last few game at the college and dealing with his parents. he had some shit going on in his head that he was struggling with. he had never had a good poker face so instead of faking it around people he had stayed cooped up in his room for the week. though he had to come out sometimes and today seemed to be the day. as his feet hit the street and inhaled the cool air for a moment then exhaled as he began to walk though as he turned the corner, hands in pockets, he slammed right into someone. “jesus.. fuck..” he snapped as he pulled his hand out to rub his chest. thankfully he was tall so the person had only slammed into his chest. “watch where you’re going much?” He asked obviously pissy which was unlike him.

the café was buzzing with life, as per usual, but she had gotten there early enough to take one of the tables at the back. it had a plug for her laptop and everything, how handy. she tapped at the keys with confidence as she wrote the rough draft for yet another Red Lipstick Sin entry. his heart was beating fast and I could tell he was nervous. that only made me more confident… focused as she was, she didn’t hear the barista call: ❛ jesse! ❜ she kept on preparing a few posts ahead. the holidays season was coming up and she planned on taking a break. the second time he called her, ❛ jesse? ❜ she snapped out of concentration.

❛ oh, that’s me! ❜ that’s what she got for using a fake name. 

the barista looked bored when she approached him. ❛ yesterday you were annie. ❜

❛ yeah, and tomorrow i’m gonna be rihanna. ❜ she took the coffee.

❛ are you ever going to use your actual name? ❜

she smiled at him. ❛ well, even if i did, you wouldn’t know it’s real, would you? ❜ then she turned around to return to her table.

zeke had been sitting at the coffee shop trying to get some of his homework done. he was sipping on his coffee when his eyes caught the redhead who had walked it. it was hard not to notice her, she was stunning. . his eyes followed her as she spoke to the barista behind the counter. hum, why was she giving fake names? zeke’s eyes moved back down to his paper as he began to write but kept his ears open so he could listen to the conversation that she was having with the young boy.

when she had finished talking he sat his pencil down and looked back at her. “interesting..” he said softly.. “so why do you do it?” he asked now just curious. “is there a reason you go by an alias here?”

 “You uh…. you okay,” She said as she bit her lip. She had rarely seen him talk about his parents. She knew what it was like to be so distant from them. “I mean I know you’re not but uh do you want to talk,” She asked him. Simone wanted to be there for him, knowing that family could be tough.

when simone had asked him if he was okay he sighed. “just shit with my father.”  he had known that simone of all people knew how shitty his relationship with his father was.. or lack there of. when she asked if he wanted to talk about he it shook his head. “really there isn;t a real reason to talk about it. same shit different month. likes to call once a month to bitch about everything i am doing wrong.”

  “It wasn’t on purpose,” She pleaded with a smirk. “It was an accident. I didn’t shut it off,” She stated as she  went back to click it off. “I really need to just use my phone,” She ran a hand through her hair. “Please don’t judge me,”

zeke let out another laugh. “okay i am the last person to judge you over some porn. in fact maybe we can just switch websites and give each other opinions.” he joked.

  Stella was working another shift at the club and everything was going pretty smoothly. She was making pretty decent tips and she didn’t really have anything to complain about. The Cuban decided to step out of the club for just a minute for a much needed smoke break. She lit up a cigarette and was about to draw it to her lips when she noticed the familiar face. It was Zeke. The last time she had talk to the boy, he was working at one of the local bakeries in town and she was hoping to score a possible day job there. She wondered if he still worked there or not, who knows. 

“Nah, I’m fine,” she admitted as she took a quick hit of the cigarette. She wasn’t trying to interrupt him or intrude on whatever phone conversation he was having. 

zeke had went to the strip club to blow off some steam. it was his go to place when he felt that his life was unfixable. something about a nice pair of tits and ass would instantly make him forget all the problems he had currently going on in his life. he hadn’t meant to snap off on the girl, in fact the last conversation he had with her was a very pleasant one, not to mention he was at her job trying to see boobs. 

he nodded when he said she was fine. “you were just looking. i was making sure.” he said rolling his eyes before taking a breath in. “sorry..” he muttered catching himself from being a bigger dick.

  nova tucked her arms across her chest and smiled very slightly. she wiped the smile away, though. she wasn’t going to give herself up that easily. “i uh… thanks. i’ll look into it.” nova tucked the information away in her mind so when she got home she could download the app he was talking about. it would help her in the future. “yeah. yeah, you can show me. i mean, if you wanted to hurt me you would have done it by now, right?” nova tried to assure herself of this. it was still strange, letting a boy show her around somewhere but she supposed it was better to just follow then wait around for hours for someone else to help her out. “thanks.”

the last thing zeke wanted to do was make the female feel uncomfortable. he was a lot of things but a creep wasn’t one of them. he shook his head when she spoke. “well i would gain nothing out of hurting you.. asides you are right if that was the case i would have followed you the first time you made your loop around here.”: he teased trying to lighten up the mood. “the names zeke.” he said as he nodded for her to follow him.

  Gabriel was out letting off some steam after a particularly long day in the shop. He’d connected with a few people inside but needed to take a break for some fresh air and, yes he got the irony, a cigarette. He noticed the guy on his phone and could tell it wasn’t exactly a pleasant conversation but he didn’t actively start paying attention until he could hear the muffled screaming from the other end, causing him to watch without even realizing. “Oh, sorry man. My bad. Nah, I’m good but it seems like you might need some help. Cigarette? Something stronger?” He offered while holding out the carton toward him.

it wasn’t that zeke was meaning to be a prick to the stranger. the boy had a bit of a temper and at times he didn’t really realize who he would snap out on. as he put his phone back in his pocket he eyeballed the guy in front of him. when the guy offered him a cigarette he shook his head. “nah, bro. i don’t smoke. can’t be a athlete with shit lungs.” he admitted.  “however i will take the shit liver and get a drink.” he mused.

  belly teetered on the edge of the curb, smoking a cigarette to take the edge off how drunk she had become before three in the afternoon. day drinking was fun until it got out of hand and you still have hours to go through. dayton’s population never surprised her and this was no different. angry or tweaked out civilians with some chip on their shoulder. hell, just last month she had watched some crazy person pull a knife on some tweens. and she was the tweaker? 

the dude rolled his eyes and belly smirked, taking a step closer and throwing her ciggy the ground. “yeah actually,” she responded, both hands through her hair and a more than obvious sarcasm in her tone. “was that the iPhone x or eleven? i’m interested in camera specs.”

zeke’s mind was still focused on the conversation with his father. he was furious, was it really that hard for his parents to at least pretend to give a shit about what was going on in his life. he felt like the only time he heard from them was when they needed to bitch at him. pulling the phone out of his pocket he took a look at it. “i don’t know..” he said shaking his head. “Wahtever iphone has the three lenses.. the camera is good.” he said as he stuffed it back into his pocket. “better than just one lens.”

  the boy seemed to shift slightly and nova felt a small bit of appreciation because of it. she was able to see that he was being a bit more careful around her. it didn’t make her want to jump into his arms and thank him but it was enough to have her relax very slightly. “i uh… the inn. i’m staying there till i find an apartment.”

zeke felt like he could at least feel helpful, he remembered being new there and getting lost often. “the inn...” he nodded. “you know- i found this awesome app called waze.” he said pulling out his phone to show her. “it is amazing, it gives you specific directions even if on foot. it also let’s you know if there is cops around or if there is construction or something so you can go around.” he explained. “but you are close, how about i just show you?” he offered. “if you don’t feel comfortable though i can just give you directions.”

  nova knew the other didn’t believe her. what was she supposed to say, though? how was she supposed to respond? he was clearly a boy like the ones who continued to haunt her dreams. he was clearly a boy like the ones she’d been forced to apologize to despite them being the ones at fault. nova didn’t trust him. but, most of all, she didn’t trust herself. “thats probably because i don’t know this town and it’s confusing.” nova said softly but with a small bit of bite behind her words. 

it wasn’t like zeke was going to follow her. however he could see how a lot of the woman would worry, there was a lot of scary people in the world. zeke let out a soft laugh when she had admitted that she didn’t know this place. “well i would offer you a ride somewhere but honestly the dmv just laughs at me when i get anywhere close to it.” he admitted. “maybe i can give you some clear directions though?” he offered instead. “where are you looking to go?”

  “It just limits what you can do comfortably outside, you know? But you’re right. I got some kissing and dancing in the rain to do while the weather allows.“

zeke nodded, “yeah it does put a damper on doing anything outside.” he admitted. “but the girls seem to find it romantic and shit so there are always pluses to the negatives of things.” he agreed.

  Mckenna grew up bathed in hate and vitriol. It came with the territory of all the love he received from the masses and he’d learned young not to take it too personally when the public knew next to nothing that was real about him. Zeke and his friends were part of the masses that loved to hate him, or hated to love him. Mckenna was never good at differentiating between the two but it hadn’t mattered much then.

He didn’t think it mattered much now either something had shifted. Mckenna played it cool for a few swats, finding his footing as Zeke threw hefty punches at his gloves. Aggression was something he’d learned in the ring but this felt different. More personal. He narrowed his eyes as the impact of a punch rippled through him.

“When did I say anything about being sober? Listen, Zeke, the only one making this weird is you. The only one who ever makes it weird is you, man.” He didn’t know why he was denying all that he’d accomplished in the past two months now but he didn’t like the tone of his rant nor did he have the gall to say what he actually meant. His whole life could’ve been amounted to a single Cola bottle, shaking and ratting with each passerby who thought they had any right to touch him. The roof of his mouth was covered with lacerations from all the barbs he’d ever swallowed. 

“Seriously, man. You don’t want to walk down this path with me right now. You have no idea what you’re talking about.”

zeke had often enjoyed his time with mckenna. the male was someone he would consider the closest person in his life. regardless of any of the words that came from the redhead mouth zeke had already formed his opinion. mckenna was being weird and zeke wanted no part of it.  he gave the boy’s hands a few more punches before he finally put his hands down.

the male had a bit of a aggression problem himself and sometimes he had found himself taking it out on those close to him. so instead when mckenna made the comment about how he didn’t want to take that path with him zeke just nodded. “you know what-” he paused and began to take off the bandages on his hands. “you’re right. i don’t . i don’t know who you are and honestly it is killing my vibe, bro.” he said as he tossed the bandages in the trash close to him. 

“you clearly need to sort out whatever shit you have going on in your head and your life. perhaps take a little ride and clear your head or whatever you said driving helped you do.. and then when you come to your sense and decide that you are done acting like-” he waved his hand over the boy’s body. “whatever this is that you  are acting- i’ll be around. thanks for the lift, mckenna i will just find my own way home.” he muttered shaking his head.
