I still have trouble wrapping my head around the story that Moos could’ve actually been a part of MBLAQ. In that version, Thunder would have continued as a trainee, and Mir would not have been the maknae … which is weird really because Mir so thrives on being the puppy punching bag of his hyungs, and turns it into an opportunity to fanboy around his older groupmates. With what little I’ve seen of Moos, he actually reminds me of a younger version of Seungho, a mini-spitfire. I can’t imagine him turning to a puddle like Mir when Joonie bestows his attention on him.

So Moos gets sick a few weeks before the debut, so they brought in Thunder for a two-week intensive training in basically taking Sangbae’s place. I find it even more fascinating that even if his position in MBLAQ was sort of taken away from him by circumstances, he sticks around for five more years as a trainee to get his second-shot debut five years later. I mean, what is THAT? The words ‘loyalty’ and ‘dedication’ seem lacking … but I love this, this … faithfulness of Sangbae, not to JTunes but faithfulness to his DREAM. I mean, I can’t imagine how he must have felt seeing MBLAQ take off, and probably thinking at the back of his mind that that could’ve been him with them. And he must have felt those pangs repeatedly throughout these five years, with every comeback and every concert of MBLAQ … I can’t help but think that a little part of him gets crushed each time with that lost opportunity. Gosh, that level of angst can squash weaker spirits, but not Sangbae’s. Boy could’ve quit his company, quit his dream, but he DID NOT. Five years post-MBLAQ, and a few more years before that … wow, he’s been training forever you know? That tenacity is amazing, please give him some kind of award already. For all of this alone, I want Madtown to hit it big, and give it big back to Moos.

But as it turns out, MBLAQ’s music has evolved into a smooth, R&B sound that’s not too heavy on the rap. Sangbae’s rapping style is flashy more than subdued, like it deserves a big chunk of the song’s running time. He wouldn’t have been able to show that with MBLAQ’s songs, let’s be honest. And I wouldn’t say that between Mir and Moos, one is better than the other. They just have different styles, with Mir being the smoother, softer rapper suited for transitioning to the vocal parts in MBLAQ songs. So in retrospect, yeah, Thunder filled Sangbae’s spot perfectly in MBLAQ, because Moos was meant to be the Boss in Madtown. 

I just have to tip my hat off to Moos on his birthday. Pretty sure his time ….  their time, is now. 🎂 150429

[trans] Started with curiosity, 10 years passed and the timing was exquisite, and I thought that a long time had passed only after I reached the age of 30. I feel like I was able to be more passionate about what I was doing because of the fun and amazing experiences every moment. I was unfamiliar with Seoul, and I couldn’t even ride the train alone. I only brought my curiosity and dreams. Now when I think about it again, my head turns happily and I feel grateful. There were dozens of times and hundreds of times that I wanted to give up periodically, butI think the stubbornness that I thought was a shortcoming when I was a child made me feel proud and thankful. At that time, there were a lot of urgent moments from day by day. 10 years later, I will pay closer attention and move forward with better and smarter choices. I will be a person who sings and works hard in the future, so please support me. And thank you all for the greetings  on my birthday..!!☺️
