Emerald nodded because she didn’t know what else to say. Instead she looked at her mom and then the objects she had in her hands. “What do you have?” It was probably none of her business but she was glad to have something to talk about other than how horrible her day had been. Talking to Rory had helped calm her nerves considerably and if she told her mother, she would only worry. Emerald wanted to make her mother proud and prove to her she could do whatever she had to take to get the job done.
“I,” she signed and instead reached for the soft blanket on the back of the couch as she kicked off her shoes. “You know what, I don’t know.” Emerald admitted with a laugh as she waited to see if her mother would share what she was doing or if she needed to try to make more awkward small talk.

Honestly, Glitter was glad for the company and glad it was her daughter and not someone else. Part of her was curious why Em was getting back to their suite so late, but she didn’t want to pry. Her daughter was an adult now, and if she wanted to share those things she would.
Admittedly she wasn’t sure what to tell Emerald, but she settled on the truth. “There’s a loose floorboard under that table below the window,” Glitter started. “When I was young, before I won, I’d hide things there from your grandfather. I showed it to your father once,” she admitted. It had been such a long time ago. They were tributes scared out of their minds, trying to distance themselves from each other for the cameras, but unable to truly stay apart. “I hadn’t looked there since I was a tribute. No one knew about it. It was my little secret.”
Glitter held up the ring then, her heart feeling heavy when she looked at it. “This tribute...she freaked me out today. Started talking nonsense about forgiveness and not blaming myself. I didn’t want to believe her, but she mentioned the floorboard, so I decided to look.” Glitter swallowed then. “Your dad hid this for me in there. Just in case.” She tilted her head towards the table with the letter. “There was a note too.”
