It's fucking crazy that people don't see that Steve Harrington is a dork and an outcast who fits right in with the party. If you had paid attention at all, you'd notice he never even really fit in with Tommy and Carol. I mean, I don't even know how he was ever really considered popular. I guess because he was rich and had really good hair. Even though he didn't really seem to fit in with Tommy and Carol or even like them, they also felt like outcasts.

"The show would have been so much better if he had died. This show is about losers."

*affectionately* He IS a loser. I mean, he dropped everything to be with Nancy. He doesn't have any of the same friends. He is no longer a part of that crowd, if he ever really even was a part of it. Even though, he was already an outcast even if he didn't know it, Steve Harrington chose the life of an outcast. I'm sorry that you don't see that. I mean he's best friends with nerds, his best friend is a lesbian. And if that exchange with Jonathan in S5 meant anything, he's definitely very queer and crushing on Jonathan, who by the way is also very much a freak and an outcast who listens to the Clash and Joy Division. Everyone he knows is people who refuse to force to conform to society's expectations. You can say all you want that Mike is an example of forced conformity. He isn't.

Steve's dad expected him to work for him one day, he expected him to get into college, and when he didn't, he cut him off. That's canon. Steve still didn't work for his dad. Instead, he continued to choose to work menial jobs and eventually became a baseball coach which didn't pay very well but he wanted to help kids because as it turns out, he's really good at that. He doesn't live off his parents' money, the very last thing he had from them, the BMW, had gotten sucked into space. He's not a washed-up jock who works in sales. He's doing something in his life that matters to him, and it's not something his dad wants. He's a good example of someone who escaped all of that bullshit and maybe that's why he still lives in Hawkins. He's proud of that. Honestly, even though he can barely afford a place to live, I think Steve enjoys the simplicity of his life. No monsters, no fake people trying to get him to be fake, too. He's just living his own life and eventually, someone will come along and want to share the simple life with him, too.

Has anybody thought about how difficult it must’ve been for Robin to get comfortable with Steve post-Starcourt?

Like, I love the idea of them immediately bonding and being inseparable, but I also like the— honestly more realistic— idea that it took a little bit of time for her to stop being subconsciously defensive around him, even with all the bonding they did at Starcourt.

She knows he’s a good guy. She knows he doesn’t have a problem with her being gay. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still worry about it. That she doesn’t have nightmares about it…

Like, this guy just confessed his feelings for her a week ago. And, yeah, that’s his shit to work through, but she’s also constantly worrying about whether he still sees her as ‘a girl he had a thing for once’. She’s terrified that he sees her in that objectifying way that men usually see women. That the nice, sweet things that he keeps doing is because of a lingering puppy-crush instead of him genuinely being concerned for her. And she’s constantly second guessing things she does around him as well, just because she’s worried he’ll take it the wrong way, even if it’s just subconsciously.

Anyway. Give me Robin being understandably defensive and uncomfortable around Steve and Steve making it his personal mission to show her that she doesn’t have to be scared around him. And then their best-friendism grows through the cracks in her defenses.
