Digital Divide in the New Normal

A lot of studies found out that students' access to devices was today's key issue where some don't have any access to any devices at all due to poverty and some only have limited access like smart phones for today's online learning. It made the life of the students as learners a bit harder and more challenging than ever because of the adjustments of this new normal that took a long time for them to be fit or flexible. Most student's current performances were getting bad or even worse in this new mode of learning compared to face to face learning due to the digital divide. Studying and working in these current situations undoubtedly includes sacrifices and commitment which only few can do. Digital inequalities were rapidly increasing when this crisis happened most especially it took on increased significance in the country's closures of some establishments, school and other departments where a lot of people lost their jobs, incomes and for students, mostly lost the opportunity to learn.

The digital divide now takes into consideration access, or lack of access, to the internet, as well. The digital divide is not only an issue in developing countries. Even in very wealthy countries, various communities face barriers to access, for economic, linguistic, and even generational reasons. Digital divide is somewhat similar to the generation gap. As the population is divided, having those who still prefer the traditional ways, it creates a gap in the society. At some point, it develops conflict points into which natives are acceptable and performing well. Is it the digital natives or the traditional ones? Also, it creates a huge change in the lifestyle of everybody and promotes divisions in the society. Digital innovation is always a good trend. However with the division that is created with digital nomads and the traditional, it raises a lot of societal conflicts and debates. As a society, we value respect and empathy. To bridge the digital divide, we must uphold these values. Digital inclusion is one aspect of a just and equitable "new normal."

Understanding the Relevance of Information and News Literacy in the Midst of Social Era

Information and News are our foundation these days. It is our eyes, ears, and our senses as whole in this time of uncertainty and complexity of society. As we progress, extend, and step ahead to new innovations, our commitment is fastened to our literacy as users of the medium. Information and News Literacy are linked to the Social Era as it needs collective understanding and endeavor to be illuminated and to widen its influence. Information and News created a big change in our entity. As a fundamental aspect of society, information and news play a part in the socialization of folks. They are able to share their perception and position of principles about information or news on the occurrence of schemes and contingency. Information and News incorporates modernism and embraces the Social Age as it widens the commitment of people's competence and creates a chamber where they can empower and utilize literacy.

As we step ahead to our future, being literate is the new norm and standard. Knowing how to evaluate and filter false information is the best aspect that should be obtained. Being conscious about the typology of media literacy should be retained by media users as an avenue to acquire literacy in the media. First and foremost, media literacy helps students become wiser consumers of media as well as responsible producers of their own media. Along those same lines, teaching media literacy helps to foster critical thinking in students. Media literacy education is a key in ensuring that individuals can find the real facts among all of the half truths, articles or information being shared online and beyond, especially when it is literally a matter of life or death. As we are seeing now, media literacy is not only a scheme of education, it can also be a matter of public safety. You can always access everything you want in just one click. We should always remember that everything we do has a consequence whether it is good or not, be responsible enough to handle things with care and as a literate individual. Illuminating ourselves to the relevance of information and news literacy to the social era is vital. As our technology and innovations take place, our literacy must remain in whatever era. We might age and got old but our literacy will remain and should influence the younger generation.

Media and Government: A Love-Hate relationship

Media and Government are both essential in society holistically. Media and Government are the foundation of our country. Media is there to let people know about the occurrence of activity and what's happening in our county and globally. Government is there to govern and enforce people in peace and its purpose in systematization. One of our resources to obtain information is through the media, and the government is there to ensure the comfort, security, and the holistic approach to the needs of its citizens. Our poster mirrors the love and hate relationship of media and government in the Philippines. Media is there to let people know about what's happening in our government, let them understand the complexity of government, and make officials accountable and liable. Government utilizes the media in disseminating news and interventions throughout the country specially in this time of health crisis. Freedom of speech can never survive without the media, because the media rallies people together and give voice to the voiceless.

I consider freedom in media linked to our freedom of speech because media can be a vehicle for our voices as citizens be heard and amplified. Media evolves and continues to develop according to the needs of humanity and government. Their love and hate relationship conflicts when media is unbiased and government is not transparent. The government needs the attention of our country and the medium for that attention is thru media. As our war against the pandemic, fake news, corruption, and etc. Our collaborative effort and solidarity is fundamental in this battle. The love and hate relationship of the foundation's of our country should be put behind and let both be governed with unprejudiced, credibility, liability, responsibility, and love for the Filipino citizens. As we step closer to the future, let us create a world without hatred, where media and government are ruled with love and openness. Together let us break the stigma and work hand in hand in the aim of building a better society.

The Value of Being a Media and Information Literate Individual

We are living in the era of modernism and innovation of new technologies. Mediums such as the media are slowly taking place in the growth of society and individuals. Media is an excellent way to let people know what's happening, whether in the following: their company, community, their country, and even globally. It is the main avenue to let people interact with each other and a vital need of individuals around the world. Media and Information Literacy enables us to adapt to the change of times and breakthrough innovation. As our world evolves with media and information, our commitment in disseminating factual and credible news and forms of information are fastened to our responsibility as media users. As the exploitation of new technologies takes place, people who circulate negativity and ignorance to the media still prevail. Our competency and the ability to obtain keen understanding in media and information is essential in our fight against negativity and ignorance, that is spread in the media, and divert these attributes to literacy and the ability to obtain responsibility as users of the medium. 

The value of being literate is fundamental in media and information. Progress can be seen in media if people are well aware and responsible users to the most sought-after platforms globally. This medium had helped me personally when it comes to communicating with people. We, as users, are able to meet friends and talk to our family who's living far away from us. For instance, I have a cousin who is currently living in Alaska, USA and a medium such as Facebook helps me to continue our communication with each other. Moreover, Social Media is such a great avenue for communicating. We are able to share things like: ideas, knowledge, wisdom, and information in just a click of our fingers; however, there are people who circulate negativity and contribute ignorance to such a medium. So we as users should try to educate ourselves and try to understand more the complexity of Social Media. We who live with literacy in media can conclude fair judgement and equal critique to an extent of being considerate and well informed in media and information. Being literate in the media enables us to widen our perception that we receive; empowers our capacity to critical thinking and our ability to filter information that we get. As we fight against fake news, cyberbullying, trolls, and etc let's continue to empower and educate ourselves, 'cause an empowered and educated user can create a peaceful and harmonious media.
