âThe Good and the Bad: How Social Media Affected Me as a Gen Z Individualâ
Generation Z is a social generation where to no surprise nearly 100 percent of Gen Z teens and adults were using social media. Millennials and Generation Z were born into an age where social media and digital technology have been integrated in nearly all aspects of their lives. Social media runs the generation, and it often seems as if with every free moment this generation has, they are on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, etc. While social media has proven to be a valuable communication tool in connecting with each other and sharing information. The social media affected the generation Z the way they live. However, as they are the first true digital natives, growing up in a world entirely connected to internet and mobile devices with 24/7 access with this so-called social media dominance, it is important to note to the positives and negatives that it has on the generation. The impact of social media on teens' social life, self-identity, civic participation, consumer habits, and media consumption is not a completely rosy picture, but interestingly differs from older generations. According to Landry (2014), social media is also very useful for expanding our content sources in general. With so many blog posts and posts written and then curated and proactive, content has grown exponentially. There is now no shortage of points of view and sources from which we can draw our own conclusions about what is really happening in the world. It is less important that the news team interprets this on our behalf. This makes us more prone to a social media spread, which means you may begin to acquire behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs from individuals in the social media platform social media makes it easier to compare ourselves to others, which can be beneficial or harmful.
Now we have everything from complete trolls to habitual pranks. This is an action that reduces the productivity of the Internet as a whole, especially social media, and makes it fun for everyone. Being anonymous and aggressive is not only cowardly, but also indicates a lack of personality. As a result of social media, this generation has greater power than earlier generations. While many think it will be good in the future, Gen Z are highly aware of the bad effects social media may have on them, their friends, their communities, and the rest of the world.  Gen Z is worried about the spreading of hate and misinformation, which many regard as the most damaging side effect of social media platforms. Statistically speaking, Generation Z is more likely to be on social media than not, and studies have revealed there is a link between social media and poor mental and emotional health. Knowing this information, it is important to understand that while social media has a positive impact on the generation related to self-confidence and friendships, there can be significant negative effects that may show up in the work we do with the generation.
