“The Good and the Bad: How Social Media Affected Me as a Gen Z Individual”
Having social media as our tool in communicating and the source of our information have different effects in our lives. For us students it is essential for us to use social media in our everyday life as we seek information as much as we want. But despite of it’s advantages we don’t know how social media can be dangerous for us as we only rely on its service. We utilize social media for interactions, information, entertainment, and other things that we are interested in. These social media platforms have provided us with several benefits. However, we cannot deny the fact that when there is a good effect, it will also have bad effects. The negative effect of social media on Gen Z nowadays is that they are the most vulnerable in terms of having anxiety, depression, stress, etc., and social media is one of the factors in that since sometimes what they see on social media affects them and others will make a big deal about it, causing them to have mental health issues. The good effect of social media is that sometimes it helps relieve our stress and helps us with educational purposes. What is true about it is that social media was established to make our lives easier, but it is up to us to make the most of them because they do have advantages and disadvantages. We all have our own choices, but it really depends on our choice if it will lead to the wrong way or the right way.
Using social media, we can communicate with other people and then we can make friends too. We belong in the generation that has the internet, we woke up in this world having the internet. We know how to use it but it makes us addicted. It will affect our mental health because we are always facing our phones everyday. Even if social media can really help us, we need to limit ourselves using it. We are the first generation who grew up and are completely immersed in technology as a way of life. Because of this advanced technology and digital media natives, we Gen Z would have never known the world without Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. We belong to Generation Z teens who are always attached to the phone, checking it up early in the morning, and so on. We, as Gen Z individuals, have witnessed the impacts of social media on ourselves and to our surroundings. We concluded that social media has an impact on us, it may be positive or negative because there is no such thing as all positive and all negative, both are always present.
