The thing anti-bylers dont understand is that most of us would be completely fine with a storyline of will having unrequited feelings for mike IF it had been written completely differently from the start. Its not just "we want 2 boys to kiss" its "we have gathered evidence thay proves that the writers are subtly telling us that this will happen". If Mike had treated will the same way he treated lucas and dustin, if will just had a crush on dustin or lucas or someone else, if mike hadnt had any closet imagery, if wills "unrequited" feelings werent being used to just uplift another straight couple, if they hadnt done the cyrano trope with the painting, if they werent constantly breaking down milevens relationship over 3 seasons, if they didnt make every other relationship a rejection of thw typical 80s romance tropes, if the core value of the show was that nerds and freaks should be thriving and that you arent alone, if they introduced an "epologue bf" for will long before season 5 even began (assuming they go down that route at all), and if it was resolved quickly instead of being built up for seasons upon seasons of getting the chance to tell him and not doing it... then it could have been a really good and relatable queer storyline.
But they didn't write it that way.
They decided to write it in a way that would make only one kind of ending the ending that makes sense. The ending where the "unrequited" love turns out to be requited, and it had been requited from the start. They decided to compare Mike and Tammy while the audience is aware of how they are fundamentally different and incomparable.
The parallel of Mike and Tammy is not an analogous parallel (a direct, out-loud "X is like Y because Z") its an inverted one (X is like this and Y is the oppisite of X, vise versa). And they cant turn around and pretend its not an inverted parallel last minute.
That is why I still hold the belief that byler will be canon in episode 8.
