"Between my teacher Mr. Kirishima and my grandfather Sohei, you'd think every old man in my life has been a grouchy old curmudgeon. But, actually... there is one old man in my life that's actually nice and much more pleasant to talk to... and that's my grandfather Chimon on my mother's side. Between him and my grandmother Rika, you can tell where the niceness in our family came from, passed down from them, to my mother, to Anzu and me. The times I've talked to Grandpa Chimon, he's been nothing but a kindly old gentleman, a far cry from Grandpa Sohei, and, while both are quick to give sagely advice to Anzu and I, Chimon is able to do it without taking potshots at anyone in the family he doesn't like. With a guy like him, you'd think there's no one that side doesn't like, but actually... there is one person that Chimon doesn't like... and that's Grandpa Sohei. Anytime those two are together, it's always bickering between them... at first it was entertaining, but, it gets old after like five minutes."
-Flashback to one holiday in Kyoto-
Chimon: "I tell you, having a person as miserable as you so close to them, I'm amazed the family hasn't grown as bitter as you are, you old coot!"
Sohei: "Speak for yerself, geezer! You're too dang soft on 'em! The grandkids're gonna end up spoiled rotten if they hang out with you too much!"
Chimon: "Spoiled rotten?! Bah humbug! What's the issue with a little positive influence in their lives?! I know darn well with you around they get nothing but negativity! Who'd wanna grow up in an environment like that?!"
Sohei: "Well if you'd seen the brat yer doofy daughter and my idiot son dropped on my doorstep, you'd change yer tune right quick, old timer! Twelve miserable years I dealt with that brat trying to do what those two morons couldn't and raise him to be an upstanding member of society!"
Chimon: "Doofy?! You take that back, you decrepit old fossil! My Hayami is an angel, and she and her husband work hard to provide for their three beautiful kids! Why, I oughta smack you one right now for talking bad about such hardworking parents!"
Sohei: "Yeah, well, don't expect much from the grandkids, geezer! Ichiro is doing God-knows-what now, Raisuke is chasing some stupid rock n' roll dream insteada listenin' to his dad and gettin' ready to take over the shop, Anzu just blindly follows whatever Raisuke does, and Kotone... well, we don't really know what she'll grow into, but I'm sure she'll find a way to be a brat as well!"
Chimon: "I'll be! The only brat I see around here is the old dinosaur king looking at me who never has a kindly word to say about anyone! All the grandkids are wonderful kids! Even Ichiro! I'm sure if he had a little more of a positive influence and less of a you, he would have remained with us, now, wouldn't he? And another thing: is that shop all you care about? Some run-down repair shop in the middle of nowhere in a town NO ONE LIVES IN?! Is that what you want to force them into? Why, Raisuke and the grandkids should be free to pursue their own interests without you breathing down their necks and telling them what their futures are! If this is how you treated Ichiro, then quite frankly, old man, I don't blame him for running away!"
Rock: "And... that's about where my mom steps in to talk some sense into both of them. Or smack some, depending on how well the talk part goes."
-Cut to a grandfather/grandson conversation between Chimon and Raisuke-
Chimon: "I tell you, my boy, you and your family ought to come down to Kyoto more often and come visit with us. It's not right for kids your age to be stuck in that decrepit nowhereville Shiromizu. You need things to do, more friends to hang out with, a school you don't need to go to another city to attend! Why, if your grandmother and I had the means, we'd just bring you outta there ourselves! Especially if it means getting away from that horrid Sohei. Being around someone as negative as him constantly cannot be good for your mental state. Why, if I may be so blunt, I honestly wish that old fool would just join his wife in the afterlife and leave you guys alone."
Rock: "Actually... forget everything I just said about him providing advice without taking potshots. When it comes to Grandpa Sohei, Grandpa Chimon pulls no punches. I mean, I love them, but, man, do they really need to work out their differences..."
