An Inuk woman is getting harassed on twitter for politely asking an artist to take down their fan art of Katara with Inuit facial tattoos because the artist isn’t Inuit and doesn’t understand their significance and like…fucking this is why I’m wary of the ATLA fandom and fandom in general tbh

Someone from the culture the show based the water tribe on says “hey this is cultural appropriation”, and suddenly fans of this “anti-racist” show jump down her throat because she spoke up.

Seriously ATLA’s fanbase can be…such a cesspool bc people are so complacent in the show’s “woke” source material (which is a subject for another day) and so protective of this thing they’ve built their personality around that someone saying “hey what you’re doing is hurtful” is seen as a personal attack.

This is a show made by white men. I promise you it’s not as progressive as you think.

So this is a good time to remind everyone that Inuit tattooing is a closed practice, and that extends to fanart. There were quite a few Inuit on twitter who were talking about this again recently and asking that non-Inuit people respect that the tradition is not open for everyone.

The words held some importance; why else had Lilian repeated them? It felt real. Everything had felt so visceral - from the bullets ripping into her side to the kiss of flame upon her flesh. The taste of the woman’s heartsblood was easy to recall. Akrasiel could recall the temptations of that disembodied voice - instructing her in just how to consume the tremere.

“Sometimes.. sometimes change is for the best.”

Embraced in the Virginia Territories, a mother and warrior was taken from her home as a result of settler violence against the Potawatomi. She was saved by her sire, yet lost her husband and child. In Williamsburg, she joined a coterie of neonates and began an adventure; allying alongside both hunter and Garou alike to prevent the end of the world. She made mistakes - and many enemies. Each time, she bore the brunt and continued onwards. Awkward and lacking in society, once the fighting was done she faded into obscurity.

Trapped in an involuntary blood bond, she tried to escape - fleeing westwards and preventing the spread of civilization. She aided those that she could, and found a home amongst the Plains people. Yet, civilization came and went - setting her apart from the remainder of society. When she emerged, it was from the grumblings and coercion of her domitor, Ingrid Stanton.

She fought, yet it was not enough. The woman sought strength - and a means to save those that she had been placed in charge of. She made a deal.

Soolwea, otherwise known as Takkimigwech, ceased to exist. Akrasiel, first of the Mage Hunters was born. Mixed with the blood of the kue’jin and of tremere, the gargoyle stood as the first of a new bloodline. In the events following, she was once again called upon to serve - to shape the world’s fate. When the call came, she volunteered - and was left adrift in the sea of time.

This amazing art of Takki and Akrasiel was completed at the start, and the end of these characters by @diermina! I wanted to do a comparison of the two, as well as celebrate the efforts of @for-peace-war in hosting such an awesome series, and helping me improve my writing. Vampire with @bloodoflordaeron was my first real tabletop experience, and I have no doubt this character and her evolution will stay with me.

This is a commission done by @idrawbuffgirls of my warrior gargoyle, Akrasiel and @for-peace-war ‘s tremere Lucrezia Bellafonte in a strangely quiet moment.

Formed from the remains of the Native American gangrel Soolwea or Takki and the tremere So’wing’wa, their illegal creation was born of a genuine desire to protect the coterie and to be rid of a centuries old forced blood bond by tremere Ingrid Stanton.

Though removed from the Camarilla for the time being due to a series of unprecedented event, the gargoyle actively seeks to return to her creators side - either to serve, or to seek answers.

I commissioned this piece as a thank you to our ST in the LxU chronicle, and my bud @for-peace-war ! These two have an interesting dynamic, and I hope to be able to play Akrasiel again. I always look forward to playing your games.

Ex mormon here - this guy’s legit. The Mormon holds your files for eternity, and when they find out that you’ve moved to a new area, they will send members and missionaries from that region to harass you. I know this sounds like dystopic bullshit, but they followed my father through three moves before he rejoined the church.

Also ex mormon here who used this. It’s a ridiculously helpful service that is incredibly easy to use. They keep you updated throughout the whole process, and it’s totally worth it since the church doesn’t get to keep all your private information and pass it around once you resign :)

A few years ago the church started requiring some people to get their resignation notarized (quit Mormon will still help walk you through that, it’s just an extra step you have to take when the process used to be incredibly simple). It doesn’t affect everyone and they tend to make men notarize more than they make wonen do it (gotta keep those priesthood holders in the church, y'know)

and also know that getting children under the age of 18 off church records is ridiculously difficult, the church’s lawyers kick and scream and drag their feet to keep them registered as members of the church. It’s like, sure at 8 years old this child was old enough to pledge ten percent of their income to you for the rest of their lives, but at 15 they’re not old enough to say “nah, I’m out”, it’s disgusting.

And one last thing, if you’re born into the church you don’t go on church records when you’re baptised at 8, you get put on church records after you get your baby blessing when you’re just a few weeks old. So if you have children and then leave the church, even the unbaptized ones will need to be removed from church records if they’ve been blessed. And blessed but unbaptized children are the most difficult to get off church records even though the child themselves have not made a conscious (if coerced) decision to join the church.

But y'know, totally not a cult.

A spirited commander and fighter, her training as a member of the warrior caste has granted her little political acumen, but a great and exacting sense of justice. As the sister to the false king Yobotansei and the aunt of Mitsumi, she has vowed to see the stain of regicide erradicated in all forms.

Princess Cerena presently operates from the swamplands about Mitsukishi where she wages guerilla warfare against Yobotansei and his imperial backers. As the empire now teeters on civil war, she and her allies prepare to strike at the heart of corruption and rid Mitukishi of its oppressors once and for all.

I learned in a Latin Studies class (with a chill white dude professor) that when the Europeans first saw Aztec cities they were stunned by the grid. The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization.

When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (now downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that century’s london with a working sewage system, artificial “floating gardens” (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasn’t even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city. The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time.

Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool.

Also, please remember that the idea of a nomadic or semi-nomadic culture being “less intelligent”, “less civilized” (and please unpack that word) was invented by people who wanted to make a graph where they were on the top.

Societies that functioned without 1) staying exclusively in one location or 2) having to make complicated, difficult-to-construct tools to go about their daily lives… were not somehow less valid than others.
