Guide to IEEE referencing and citation
What is the full form of IEEE reference style?
IEEE reference stands for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers [IEEE] which is known for supporting different branches of computer science, engineering and information technology.
Where is IEEE referencing used?
IEEE reference or citations are mainly used in IT projects, engineering projects and in computer sciences. An IEEE reference contains 3 main parts:
a) author’s name in pattern Initial of first name and then full last name
b) the name or title of articles/conference papers/patents/, etcetra are placed under quotation marks
c) the name of books or journals are presented in italics in reference list
1. Citations are done within the text that is presented. Intextings are mostly done at the end of sentences.
2. intexting is done in form of a number enclosed in third bracket. For example [1]. This number denotes a particular reference.
3. if a source is already cited then, the number can be used again for intexting. For example
The stated theory marks out main attributes that a leader must follow [3]….
As per the theory a leader needs to have a strong decision making power [3].
4. if more than one source is to be cited then the particular source numbers are to be separated with commas or dash within a single bracket. For example
Recent studies of [2,6,9,12] have suggested that…..
5. there must be a space before the bracket and source number must be placed before any punctuation marks
1. reference list must be arranged sequential wise with details of sources
2. the source details must be presented keeping in mind the 3 parts of IEEE reference. For example

3. you may use varied sources for referencing such as newspapaer articles, books, online books, journals and online journals, encyclopedia, e-books, conference published papers, thesis papers, etcetra.
4. All the mentioned types of sources differ in reference list as each sources are presented in different format.
