Been tied down with a lot of commercial graphic design work lately so been pretty quiet, but had chance to do something fun over the weekend, I watched Aussie cult horror flick 'The Loved Ones' for the first time in ages and thought make a classic movie poster for it.

I had a a very busy February with design jobs so didn't get chance to work on any of my own stuff but got chance to do this over the weekend. I have wanted to do a poster for this film for a long time, 'Slumber Party' Massacre is one of my all time favourite Slasher film's from the 80's and my eyes very undderated among classic's of the sub genre.

My Horror movie poster this month is more recent then the previous two. American Mary is one of my more favourite Horror films of recent times but to pigeon hole this amazing movie to one genre dis-credits it really, there is a lot going on here. One of the year’s most horrific highlights in 2012, American Mary tells the story of broke student Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle) who grows disenchanted with medical school and the doctors she once idolised. The allure of easy money sends a desperate Mary through the gruesome world of underground surgeries but soon finds they leave more marks on her than the so-called freakish clientele... Smart, sexy, funny and utterly gorgeous to look at. American Mary features a standout lead performance from Katherine Isabelle who is already horror for her in 2001's modern horror classic Ginger Snaps, and puts the Soska Sisters, aka the Twisted Twins who's stock is currently rising fast in the horror world. I absolutely love American Mary and highly recommend if you have not seen it, I decided to give this poster the vintage Hammer/Amicus treatment, for no reason really its just what I have been into lately.

A poster I did for fun today while playing around colours again. Its for indie horror gem 'dead hooker in a truck' directed by The Soska Twins

Directed by Takashi Miike who's provocative, bizarre films normally based on extreme violence and sexual taboos still continue to shock people today. But in 1999 he changed the face of extreme cinema with his masterpiece Audition that when screened at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2000 had a record number of walkouts. At the Swiss premiere someone passed out and needed emergency room attention. I first saw film around 2002 on Channel 4 in the early hours of the morning, I knew nothing about this film apart from that it was meant to be shocking. The story is about a widower that takes an offer to screen girls at a special audition, arranged for him by a friend to find him a new wife. The one he picks is not who she appears to be after all, this leads a horrifying conclusion that includes disturbing scenes of violence and close up torture which to this day still makes me cringe but is shot masterfully by Miike. If you like your extreme cinema and don't mind Horror movies that start off slow I highly recommend giving it a watch. (it is a classic)
