tiny reminders with boundless consequences — it reminds me of the outline of a mountain at night

or a black hole in space

you only see the size by observing the effects on the surrounding matter

the immense gravitational hold

now we only see the impact on the environment

i’m dreaming again, the way i did when i was a little kid

fantasizing about how I’d answer interview questions

the way I’d dance on stage

the clothes I’d wear

i’m dreaming of being a pop star

of singing to crowds and hearing my words screamed back at me 

i dream, i wish, i hope, i guess

i keep envisioning little rocks filling up a bag of reasons why not to 

that i’m unknowingly pleading against my case

“she’ll never make a good wife”

see jury, the evidence has been gathered

the verdict stands

she is deemed unfit 

who inside me is so scared?

so terrified to ruin the best piece of me in this world 

although i say he has all of me i know he does not

there is the part that lives in fear, building up walls as he painstakingly (carefully) takes them apart 

it never ends it seems 

and i sit patiently on the other side, desperate for touch and connection

desperate to let him in

but there’s a war inside 

i couldn’t possibly win

at guard upon a roof

firm and resolute 

as creatures start to move

the sky changes shades of blue

but i only think of you

as we stand upon the roof

summer confuses the creatures,

night’s cover becomes (elusive).

a dream from winters passed.

warm bodied animals nourish their souls with burning liquids 

and conversations fill in the space between sunset and moonrise

I’d lie if i told you i wished to stay here 

for loss gives holding its glow 

to have is impossible
