Bruce McArthur, accused of killing seven men in Toronto, is finally in custody. Some say the police ignored the men's disappearances because they were gay and bi men of color.

Wow, this article raises a very interesting question about how the Police handled the investigation regarding Toronto’s gay serial killer.

“The community did go to the media and to police when the first person went missing in 2012,” says Haran Vijayanathan, executive director of the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention. “But the investigation had no outcome and police said there was no evidence. Then when a white person went missing, [police] suddenly could see all these links.”

Watch These Queer Men of Color Frankly Discuss the Racism They Encounter on Gay Apps

Many queer men of color experience racism on gay apps, so filmmaker Patrick Lee talked to 4 men of color about it and how to make friendlier online spaces.

“When I first moved to New York, it was an unspoken thing where, like, I’d be interested in someone and they’re like, ‘Oh, you’re cute … but, you’re Asian,’” says Nick Kim of his experience of racism on gay apps.

He’s just one of four men of color who recently talked to documentary filmmaker and journalist Patrick G. Lee about the racism on gay apps they encounter online from other men in Lee’s new “No Filters” video series.

Hornet teamed up with Lee to create a series that explores the experiences of queer men of color on gay apps. Lee’s No Filters provides a compelling and insightful look by and for queer people of color (QPOC). By giving voice to QPOC experiences and helping everyone better understand them, perhaps we can create a better, more humane online community that welcomes all of us.
