“I went to get my hair cut today and -- obviously I didn’t, but I’m fairly certain the lady now thinks I’m insane because I chickened out and kinda ran away?”
He kissed the top of her head, smiling as he did so. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” she mumbled, looking up at him. “Do you still want me to stay here with you tonight?”
“Oh right. Your man. Interesting.”
Gemma nodded her head. “Yeah, my man’s apparently dating your girl.”
He brushed a bit of her hair back a little bit, shaking his head. “It’s okay. Don’t worry about it. Just… Don’t be insecure about us. I love you.”
She nodded her head gently, wrapping her arms around his waist. “Okay,” she mumbled quietly, looking up at him as she rested her chin against his chest.Â
“That’s okay,” he told her, rubbing her back and taking a deep breath. “I love you too, though…” He let his eyes shut and he began to play with her hair.
A soft smile appeared on her lips after he said that he loved her too. Sighing, she looked up at him. “I’m sorry,” she mumbled quietly, keeping her eyes on him. “That I literally just basically yelled at you for no good reason.”
“Not ridiculous… You just don’t have any reason to be jealous. Reagan is just a good friend.” He pecked her lips gently and shook his head. “You won’t lose me. I promise.”
Gem looked up at Asher, nodding gently as he spoke. After his lips had met with hers, a small smile spread across her lips. “Okay,” she mumbled quietly, wrapping her arms around his waist tightly. “This wasn’t exactly how I wanted to tell you that I loved you, but guess it kinda just came out,” she continued, burying her face in his chest.
Asher sighed at that, shaking his head. “I love you too, Gem… And no one is gonna change that. I don’t cheat, and I never would. Don’t you trust me?” Brushing his fingers through his hair, he shook his head. “Harry was ashamed of me. Harry was interested in owning me. I don’t think he ever cared…” Ash took her hand, carefully pulling her back to him. “Gemma…”
After he had pulled her back, she sighed lightly, looking up at him. “I’m being ridiculous, aren’t I?” Redirecting her gaze onto something other than him, she sighed. “I just -- I’ve never felt like this about someone before and I guess the thought of ever actually losing you kinda freaks me out,” she admitted quietly.Â
“I care a lot about you too, Gem. That’s why I’m with you all the time, and when I’m not I’m either texting or calling you.” He shook his head. “I spend time with her because she’s my friend. Nothing’s going on… And the fact that you think I would do that to you makes me wonder why you’re with me at all.”
Gemma let her eyes fall to the ground, taking a deep breath. “I’m with you because I love you,” she muttered out without really thinking first. Taking a deep breath, she swallowed harshly before meeting her gaze with his. “I just -- I’m scared that eventually you’ll see that I’m really no better than Harry is,” she sighed, feeling the tears build up in her eyes. “I gotta go,” she breathed out, shaking her head. “Just forget it.”
“Oh, so now you’re gonna raise your voice at me? Tell me, Gemma, what exactly have I done wrong? I have never kissed Reagan, slept with her, or went on a date with her so what exactly have I done?”
Sighing heavily, she wrapped her arms around herself tightly. “I don’t know, okay?” Clenching her jaw, she took a few steps backward, looking down at her feet. “You don’t get it, do you? I care about you so much and -- this is all I see, all the time. You -- you’re with her a lot. Ever think that maybe the thought’s crossed my mind that you’d be better off with her? Cause it has.”
“Ah… Just don’t read the articles, then? Because the tabloids try to stir shit up. You’re letting them do just that.” He frowned, crossing his arms over his chest. “No, actually, I wouldn’t. I don’t get jealous unless I have a reason not to trust someone. Why am I on the defensive here?”
Gemma kept her eyes on him, taking a deep breath in. “They’re literally everywhere, Ash. It’s impossible not to read them,” she muttered, sighing heavily. “Why are you on the defensive? Because you’re the one that’s apparently dating another girl,” she said, a little louder than she had intended.Â
He shrugged. “Might not be for long.”
Gemma forced a laugh, nodding her head. “Right. Cause apparently she’s dating Asher.”
“Reagan?” he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. At her statement, his eyebrows furrowed. “Ah… I mean, I guess? But anyone’s who’s asked me has got the same answer… I have a girlfriend who I’m very committed too, and it’s not Reagan. You have nothing to worry about, of course.”
Gemma sighed heavily, running a hand over her face. “You do realize that just because you tell them that doesn’t mean they believe you, right?” Looking away from him, she chewed on her bottom lip, unsure of what else to even say. “I have nothing to worry about? Right. Yet I’m the one that has to endure reading articles and seeing pictures of you two together claiming you’re a couple.” Tilting her head to the side, she sighed again. “I’m sure you’d be saying the exact same thing if there were rumors about me dating someone else.”
Asher was playing his guitar, practing for his recording session later in the week. Reagan and him were still trying to work things out. They wanted to make the song perfect, after all. Hearing the knock, he got up and went to answer it. He smiled at first, seeing his girlfriend, but it soon faded. “Uh oh. What’d I do?”
Gemma looked up at him, letting a heavy breath of air out. “Reagan,” she mumbled, chewing on her bottom lip. “You do realize that there’s rumors about you two, right? You do know that, don’t you? People are saying you’re dating and a whole bunch of stuff, Ash,” she sighed, running a hand through the ends of her hair.Â
“I dunno, though. Things are… I dunno.”
“You don’t know? What do you mean by you don’t know?”
Gemma moved down the hallway slowly, playing with her fingers. She didn’t think Asher would do anything to hurt her, but a part of her felt they needed to talk about this. Once she found his door, she took a deep breath and knocked on the door, awaiting him to open it. When he appeared at the door, she looked up at him, chewing on her bottom lip. “Ash, I think we need to talk,” she mumbled quietly, nodding her head.Â

“We’re together, yes. I mean… Yeah.”
“I’m happy to hear that.”
“Well… It was nice I spent time with Reagan, which is what matters.”
“Good. So -- what’s exactly going on with you and Reagan? Are you -- together or not?”
