imagine asgore holding a black shard in chapter 4 being like "now i can finally prove to them what really happened!" and he approaches toriel like "i finally found the shard i was distracted with, at the time, see?" showing her all dramatic and shit and toriel's just like

"how is this new information?"

and he's like "what."

and she's like "i know it was an accident. you were driving drunk."
