it's not acknowledged enough that a lot of the sleep deprivation, a really big number, that is seen in children and teenagers is due to their parents. "my kid's up all night on their phone" and why exactly is that? because nighttime, the time when they're supposed to be sleeping, aka unconscious in bed, aka not causing you any trouble, aka unable to be immediately put to work by you, is so much of the time the only true "free time" they have. that's what it is. if the moment they step out of their room you give them something to do and berate them for breathing; if every moment they're in their room you're calling them out to do work, and then chiding them for trying to lock their door ... when is there a moment for them to just do what they want? to have fun? to be happy?
there isn't one. not unless they're awake when they're meant to be asleep.
I'd put more blame on homework than parents, tbh. Back when I was in school in the 90s and 2000s, they started piling on homework from 5th grade on to "prepare you for high school", and then in high school they doubled that amount to "prepare you for college". Kids, especially teens who need sleep the most, get sometimes three hours of homework per night. Which makes their days something like this if they're in high school
6AM wake up
7AM leave for school
8AM-2PM in school
2:30PM-3 get home (later if in sports or after school activities)
That leaves, at most, 3PM until bed for free time. 2-3 hours of that is taken up by homework. So, if they do all their work right when they get home (which maybe 1% of kids will do) that leaves them with roughly 12 hours before they need to wake up for school the next day. Whittle that down with sleep, personal pursuits, family obligations, possible part time jobs, and bathing, and that 12 hours very quickly disappears. Most teenagers will cut bathing down or out first. Followed by sleep, and then family obligations. All to maximize their time for personal pursuits. Which is understandable. But family obligations isn't what's causing the biggest drain on their free time. It's school and homework. Honestly, homework should be illegal beyond "there's a test tomorrow, so you should read chapters X and Y tonight". But that's a whole rant I don't want to type up right now.
For me it was:
Bus @5:45
School 8-2:45
Sports 3:30-5:30
Church 6-7:30 (if not longer)
Homework until after midnight
I had 4-5 hours of sleep most nights. I was at church 6 days a week. I asked Mom if I could relax one Saturday and she called me lazy.
Reblog and put every fictional and celebrity crush you’ve ever had in the tags.
There is literally no way to put every one in because there's a limit on tags. xD
ETA: they didn't limit me when I was adding the tags but then they deleted 2/3 of them.
Things we already knew, but the mask off moments are always appreciated.

One of the notes under my post
Ah, the bourgeois concepts of * checks notes* 🤔having the right to life, freedom and security of person,to not be tortured, executed or arbitrarily arrested, freedom of religion.....
Coming to think of it, OFFCOURSE the Stalin fanclub on Tumblr doesn't care for those.
@saxor117 If it's a "bourgeois concept" to believe that all people have the inherent right to be treated with dignity and not be tortured/raped/killed no matter who they are, then does that not make the bourgeois the defenders of the common man? Because it's he who loses when people decide that basic human dignity is a privilege and not a right.
This is especially ironic to see when you've spent years seeing other reds talking about how free stuff and other people's money is a "human right".
i think something a lot of people don't get is that years of mocking your child, even in jest, does in fact tend to get under their skin
a decade or two of even light verbal harassment is very much accentuated when it's an authority figure you are in every meaningful way subservient to
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4
Just because someone is providing you a service doesn’t mean you need to accept whatever you’re given.
This whole “Don’t be a Karen thing” has gotten annoying, to the point where I’m overhearing people being shamed because they dared to ask for what they paid for and that’s “being a Karen.”
If your food is wrong and you ask politely for your correct order that is not being a Karen.
If you don’t like the color on your nails after your nail tech does one finger and you ask politely for a different one that is not being a Karen.
If you order something online and it’s damaged and you politely ask customer service for a refund that is not being a Karen.
If you hire a contractor and he did bad work so you ask him politely to fix it that’s not being a Karen.
Like what is it with people thinking that the only way to be a good customer is to just smile and accept anything? It’s not. If you paid for something then you deserve what you paid for, nothing more and nothing less.
If you demand more, you’re an entitled Karen. If you accept anything and everything less because “it’s rude” to ask for what you paid for then you’re a doormat Susan.
I’m barely on TikTok but. Yikes. Be careful y’all
GET THE FUCK OFF TIKTOK!!!!!
Medieval church councils actually ruled that tattoos that showed you had made certain pilgrimages were of particular spiritual merit.
The verse that people point to when they're anti-tattoo literally says "don't cut or gash yourself for the dead."
I don't think adult humans get enough cuddles and I am so serious.
You look at almost any other species of mammal and they give each other physical affection all the time, but for some reason we've decided that physical affection when you're an adult should be exclusively romantic and to want frequent physical affection from your friends or family is strange or sus or a sign you actually view them romantically, and this can't be good for us I don't think.
