Some guy just grilled me for half an hour on a quote for an extra-large throw blanket. Right before I could give him the price, he suddenly switched gears and asked me if I can do sports logos. I asked which one.

This. The whole blanket. In super-soft, super-squishy yarn. That is, pricy yarn. And a million ends to weave in, because goddamn. I told him that it would be the cost of the yarn (around $200); plus $500 for size, detail, skill, labor, time; plus shipping. This is a project that would take me months to finish, for less than two weeks' pay at my shitty data entry job (less, considering $200 of it is just reimbursement for materials).

He didn't say a word. He just blocked me. Because I'm...a child who can't handle someone declining my services? Because he thought I was fucking with him? Because he thinks it's a cute hobby that doesn't deserve to be valued properly? I don't know.

People don’t understand the amount of work that goes into this stuff. I try to compare it to like “imagine if you had to paint that at the size that you want it to be, only you only had a chopstick instead of a paintbrush, so you can only really paint one dot at a time and you have to dip the chopstick again, dot, dip, dot. Now imagine if each bottle of paint cost $5-10 and it was only about the size of a lipstick tube. Oh and you have to paint the whites too.
