Fezzik was having a completely harmless && solitary rock-throwing session. at least, he thought the latter was true. but on the eighth ( && best yet ) fling, the unmistakable c l o n k of stone meeting an unfortunately placed head resounded through the valley. ' oh, no. not good, Fezzik, ' he mumbled, blundering towards his unintentional victim.
' ғ e z z i k
' why're you so sparkly? '
Fezzik was entirely used to itsy bitsy people, but s h i n y itsy bitsy people? this little lady, well, she looked magical. ( tragical, zagical. )

Mary was feeling quite weary and aggravated, as she almost always was, but even more so. And there she was not too long ago thinking that she might have some peace of mind for once, being away from those castle walls they kept her out of the way in. Now, she was lost in the woods with a complete stranger who looked as though he could snap her like a twig anytime he wanted to (not to say that Mary was particularly very afraid…) and no sense of direction. Great.'

her toity remark rather confused Fezzik. for one, there was no path, for this was the woods, && for two, wasn't it obvious that a man of his s i z e couldn't skip?
' all 'ah want to know is, which way's the nearest village? can you help, or not? '

g h o s t s. now this was news to Fezzik. he’d never really thought about them— granted, he’d never really thought about a lot of things. but real, live ( or would that be ‘dead?’ ) ghosts? those were the stuff of fairy tales, meant to frighten naughty children. but the man in the pub had said the Northern Castle Ruins were haunted, && surely he knew better than Fezzik. ( of course, Fezzik assumed that of everybody. ) more convincingly, he’d slapped five hundred dollars on the table. all Fezzik had to do was catch a ghost, prove the fellow wasn’t a nutjob.
Fezzik had agreed—why should he not? && set off on the strangest mission he’d ever endeavored. armed with a net && a torch, he blundered through the ruins, feeling neither particularly pessimistic nor particularly optimistic about the whole ordeal. if he caught a ghost, he caught a ghost. if not— not.
' here, ghosty-ghosty! come to Fezzik… '

finally, when Vizzini wasn't looking, Fezzik slipped their captive a green apple; technically, that wasn't going against orders. the princess would need her strength, after all. ( for however many more days she'd be alive-- two? three, maybe? ) either way, Fezzik reckoned Vizzini had just forgotten about food. naturally, his genius brain was consumed with higher, less practical thoughts.
' eat this, ' he muttered, thrusting the piece of fruit toward her.
' ғ e z z i k
' stop throwing a fit, little girl. '

momentarily confused, Fezzik glanced about for the source of the exclaiming voice. eventually, he gathered it must've come from almost directly beneath his protruding abdomen, eluding his line of sight. so he took a wide step back to behold an especially small figure. the top of her head ( it was a girl, as far as he could tell ) barely reached his knee. ' and you, ' he started slowly, ' are small. who cares? '
