“The Sorrows of Satan” (1926) film still | dir. by D. W. Griffith | A cinematic image immortalized through Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” (1979) cover artwork.

also a poem from the new, unreleased collection. very possibly my own all-time favourite.
It is so ridiculously easy to gain a reputation for being competent by just reading signs.
This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.
“How did you know this was the right trail?” I read the sign.
“Wow, how did you know what that flower is?” There’s a SIGN.
“How did you know we needed to use the side door?” THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.
Just…why are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. There’s nothing wrong with their vision.
Just. READ. THE. GOD. DAMN. SIGN.

Trump Administration coordinated with Russia for all the presidential elections.
Now Trump is trying to say China has been collecting publicly available data, like... Oh you don't say? Would this be the same China that Trump handed access to our most advanced computer chips to?
MAGA is incredibly dumb and we all pay.
“When I dare to be powerful -- to use my strength in the service of my vision -- it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”
- Audre Lorde
The most intense poem about racial violence and female rage (and miraculously not acting on it) I have ever read. Takes place in a public setting but I've felt these life or death tremors in many a workplace. Set during a meltdown heat wave no less. Apt for our moment...it's hot out there.
They are ONE and the SAME!!!! Always from the start till today.
not every officer. but history matters.
American policing did not emerge in a vacuum. Some of the earliest organized policing structures in the South were slave patrols designed to control, capture, and terrorize enslaved black people.
That history doesn’t define every individual officer today. It does define most and it does define the system as racist.
But pretending it has no connection to ongoing conversations about race, power, and policing is intellectually dishonest.
Same reason the RCMP in Canada exists: to control the Indegenous population, and later the Immigrant population.
