Around 10 years ago, a member of my community, Mr Richard Sim, created a badminton family when he gathered a group of badminton enthusiasts. He united a diverse range of people from teenagers to senior players, and people of different races and genders for a common cause: to compete in the Inter-Community Games. Over the past decade, I would meet the team after school to dicuss competition strategy. In the process, we bonded over many hours and became more than just a group of strangers who play badminton together. Although it has been over 2 years since we last competed, our team spirit lives on. I look forward to resuming competitions with my community when the pandemic is over, and more importantly I look forward to once again feeling the competitive spirit and youthful energy of the uncles and aunties which unites our badminton family.
