Artist Statement

I have always liked to take pictures, regardless if I am in the pictures or if I’m not in the pictures. Since I have gone on many trips and I have been to all of the major cities across the US, I have taken many pictures of all the places I have been to. I also have a lot of pictures of myself since I have done a few photo shoots. When I take pictures and I am in them, I always like to have a nice background. When I go somewhere or when I go on a trip, I always take pictures of the top attractions in the city I am in. This time around when I wanted someone to take pictures of me, I wanted my dog to be in the pictures with me. For this project I chose the Landscape Archaeology since I like nice backgrounds of landscapes in my pictures. In these pictures of my dog and I, I chose to have a nice landscaping background as we are walking.

Postmodernism is a movement that developed in the mid to late 20th-Century across philosophy, the arts, architecture and criticism that represents a departure from modernism of grand theories and ideologies as well as a problematic relationship with any notion of art. Terry Barrett proposed a list of principles in his article, “Approaches to Postmodern Art-Making” that shapes an art education curriculum. Barrett’s standards of elements and principles of design includes line, shape, texture and other features. Some of the principles and themes that Barrett mentions is escaping the confines of museums, high and low art that includes kitsch, rejecting originality, jouissance, working collaboratively, appropriation, simulating, mixing media, mixing codes, recontextualization, layering, hybridity, gazing, facing the abject, construction identities, narratives, metaphors, irony, parody and dissonance.

Performance Art Project

Artist Statement:

Since I was a young age I have always liked sports, especially basketball. Up until the end of my high school days I played competitive basketball. Even though I don't play basketball as much as I used to in the past, basketball will always be my favorite sport. Basketball will always be one of my favorite hobbies that I do on the side when I have free time. Even now when I play basketball I still have that competitive side since I played competitive basketball in the past and I played on basketball teams. Even when I just shoot the basketball into the hoop I get competitive because I want to make every basketball that I shoot and I hate missing shots no matter where I shoot the basketball on the court.

The Artist is Present

In 2010, from March 14th to May 31st, the Museum of Modern Art held a major retrospective and performance recreation of Abramovic’s work, which was the biggest exhibition of performance art in MoMA's history. During the run of the exhibition, Abramovic performed The Artist is Present, a 736-hour and 30-minute static silent piece, which she sat immobile in the museum's atrium while spectators were invited to take turns sitting opposite from her. Abramovic sat in a rectangle with tape on the floor on the second floor atrium of the MoMA, the theater lights were shining on her sitting in a chair and on the chair opposite from her. Visitors waiting in line were invited to sit across from her while she maintained eye contact with them. Visitors began crowding the atrium within days of the show opening, many individuals were arriving before the exhibit opened each morning to rush in for a place in line to sit with Abramovic. Most visitors sat with her for five minutes or less and a few visitors sat with her for an entire day. Tensions among visitors in line had arisen because every minute that each person in line spent with Abramovic, there would be less time during the day for those further back in the line to spend with her. Due to Abramovic sitting for hours at a time, many individuals have speculated whether Abramovic wore an adult diaper to eliminate the need to move to use the restroom. Abramovic sat across from 1,545 individuals, people were asked to not touch or speak to her. By the end of the exhibit, hundreds of visitors were lining up outside of the museum overnight to secure a spot in line the next morning the museum opened. Abramovic concluded the performance by slipping from the chair where she sat and she rose to a cheering crowd more than ten people deep. Abramovic said the show changed her life completely in every possible element and physical emotion.

RoseLee Goldberg is an American-based art historian, author, critic and curator of performance art. Goldberg is known as being the founder and director of Performa, which is a performance art organization. Goldberg is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Arts Administration at New York University. Performance art is a performance that is presented to an audience within a fine art context. Performance art can be scripted or unscripted, it can be random or carefully orchestrated, spontaneous or carefully planned with or without audience participation. The performance can be live or via media and the performer can be present or absent. The performance can be any situation that involves the four basic elements, which includes time, space, the performer’s body or presence in a medium, and a relationship between the performer and the audience. Performance art can happen anywhere, it can happen in any type of venue, setting and it can be any length of time.

Artist Statement:

Every now and then when my friends and I have free time and we want to go out on the weekends, we usually go to Club Vinyl, which is located near Downtown Denver. For Christmas my mom gave me the shiny jacket I am wearing in the video above and since I have got that jacket, I have been wearing it when I go out on the weekends. The reason I wear the shiny jacket when I go out is because I like to dance to music, which is one of the reasons why I go to Club Vinyl and when I put that shiny jacket on, I feel like I have a different type of personality, which leads me to the dance floor and for the whole night I will dance to every song I like and I will dance from the time the club opens to the time the club closes. When my friends and I go out, especially to Club Vinyl, we go to have a good time and for me when I go, I will celebrate like it’s the last time I’m going out or it’s the last day I’m living. The last few times my friends and I have went to Club Vinyl, we have been recording videos of ourselves dancing and we have been posting them on social media just to show how we have a good time when we go out on the weekends. When my friends and I go out on the weekends, we go out to have a good time and for a few hours on a weekend, we want to have fun and have a good time. For me it doesn’t matter who is there or where I go, when I go out on the weekends, whether it’s the club or other places, the only thing I want to do is have a good time.

Chapter 6 Time and Motion:

Time and motion are the main elements of video art. Time and motion is something that we see in our daily lives, no matter if it’s on TV, on the Internet or in person. We are able to control the speed and movement through a joystick where we watch frame after frame on television and movie screens. Our eyes also follow the panels of drawings as a story unfolds in a comic book, graphic novel or on a movie storyboard. The elements of time and motion are at work in the art gallery when interactive objects physically move and the directional forces are a major key in a painting, photo or drawing that catches our eyes attention to see the entire object moving from the beginning to the end. No matter if someone works in traditional or new media, in two dimensions, three dimensions or four dimensions, the elements of time and motion offer many opportunities to make dynamic and meaningful artifacts.

Projection:

The three senses of projection establishes three types of origin: 1. One mythical, 2. One archeological, and 3. One psychological. Projection is a metaphor and it has a powerful place in the ways we construct our conception of humanity from the idea of the self throughout social and anthropological reports that has the aspirations we have to learn through words or personal experiences throughout life. Klein’s proposal for a psychoanalysis of childhood and the hands of Pechemerle share an implicit thinking of the body as a light source. It’s the perception that provides the backdrop to the more specifically cinematic metaphor of “astral projection” that is associated with Madame Blavatsky’s theosophy and the later New Age spirituality. Recent work on the concept of projection has been more critical in the production of a sense that projection is necessary and forever a ideological action.

Project #1

Artist Statement:

For the first time in 50 years, the Chiefs played in a Super Bowl. The last time the Chiefs played in the Super Bowl was Super Bowl four when they beat the Vikings. Last year after the Chiefs fell short of reaching Super Bowl 53, this year the Chiefs were one of the best teams in the NFL, they won all of their playoff games and they reached Super Bowl 54. The Chiefs were one of the best teams in the NFL, which was led by Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs beat the 49ers in Super Bowl 54 and for the first time in 50 years, the Chiefs are Super Bowl Champions. This is only the second year Mahomes has been the quarterback of the Chiefs and the Chiefs have already won a Super Bowl. This is only the beginning of the Chiefs dynasty, which will be led by Mahomes for the next few years. Even though this is Broncos Country and the Chiefs are in the AFC West with the Broncos, Mahomes is a special player and he has done things at the quarterback position that individuals haven’t seen before. With everything that Mahomes has already done and it’s only his second year in the NFL, I can only imagine what Mahomes and the Chiefs are going to do going into the future. There’s no doubt that Mahomes and the Chiefs are going to be a great team, they will make it into the playoffs many times, they will reach and win a few more Super Bowl titles, and they will be the team to beat in the AFC and in the NFL.

After reading the articles, I now understand what is a GIF. GIF is something that is on the Internet and everyday a new GIF is born. GIF’s-(graphical interchange format), are comprised of a 256-color palette. GIF’s were once an integral aspect of the Web 1.0 culture. GIF’s started coming around when individuals started using social media networks like MySpace and now GIF’s are all over the Internet. GIF’s are used by net artists and the remix culture, which was the birth of the read/write web. GIF’s have transitioned the Internet culture by now having the possibilities of making and sharing things on the Internet. A single image that is animated has the potential to catch your attention faster than a 10-second viral video or stagnant single image. GIF’s have shown the possibilities of what you can do now on the Internet and what its potential is going into the future.
