βthis character did not act in the most objectively logical way possible!β is not ! actually valid literary criticism
i have trust that the media literacy enjoyers will find this one idk
Things that work in fiction but not real life
torture getting reliable information out of people
knocking someone out to harmlessly incapacitate them for like an hour
jumping into water from staggering heights and surviving the fall completely intact
calling the police to deescalate a situation
rafting your way off a desert island
correctly profiling total strangers based on vibes
effectively operating every computer by typing and nothing else
ripping an IV out of your arm without consequences
heterosexual cowboy
This post breaching containment has taught me that a lot of people seem to think they can accurately profile complete strangers. For the record, no the fuck you can't.
I know I already made a post to this effect but it's so baffling to me when someone defends the fact that headphone jacks are slowly but surely getting phased out by smartphone manufacturers with some variations of "wireless headphones are more convenient anyway" bc like. If we're talking about convenience what I like about wired headphones is that they conveniently have a single plug that makes the same damn pair of headphones universally compatible with every single audio-output-capable device I own, from my phone and my computer to my fucking gameboy and my casette player, it doesn't get any more convenient than that.
let's all have fun because it's better than not having fun
"why are so many leftists disabled" maybe it's because disabled people don't really care for the "kill all disabled people" parties but who can say
I feel like not enough people realize that people under enormous strain act really really fucking Weird
There was a parenting-kids-with-trauma book I remember running into around 2010 (I was not and am still not a parent, but I am an older sibling) that had a lovely little slogan I like to quote all the time:
βItβs not about the Cheerios.β
This was in reference to a story about a kid flipping the HELL out into a full-blown panic about running out of their favorite cereal. Not a tantrum, not a whine-fest, but an all-hands-on-deck, code-red, world-is-ending blowup.
The kid had originally come from a very unstable situation and experienced food deprivation. The new adoptive parents were stumped, because look at all the other food! Youβre safe! We can get the Cheerios tomorrow!
But it wasnβt really about the Cheerios, it was about that first flicker of unease triggering all the old trauma. From the outside, it looked ridiculous. To the trauma-trained reaction of the kidβs brain, it made perfect sense.
Human brains are weird, and weβre all out here trying to survive. Sometimes our brains do this in socially acceptable, convenient ways. But not often.
(The book was titled βBeyond Logic, Consequences or Controlβ I think, Iβll look it up and edit this in a bit.)
"what if someone regrets transitioning" if you are 18 or over in free country usa you can walk into any tattoo parlor and ask for a tattoo that will be on your body forever and ever and ever and they will give it to you with the understanding that if you dont like the result or you regret it later that's your fucking problem and not theirs
friend who went to bed is a type of dead wife
Transmasc erasure is the reason I wasnβt able to transition earlier.
I got on T at 20 years old. This is not the first time I tried to transition. When I was 13, I went to a highly respected institution for transgender youth to get on puberty blockers and hormones. My two providers did not know what a trans man was. They offered me a side-clasp binder off amazon in the wrong size that fucked up my ribs because they gave me incorrect guidelines on how to wear it. They refused to put me on any medication until I could prove to them that I wasnβt just confused. They never put me on any medication and always told me that being a girl is hard and I couldnβt just run away.
These things have real consequences for real vulnerable people.
Guys its okay to kin characters with your friends in your 20s its extra okay if theyre from "cringe" media
Conservative beauty standards are back with a vengeance which means it's especially important to go out this summer with bellies out and bodies unshaved. Also be unapologetically disabled with mobility aids and wearable medical devices and stim toys and ear defenders and all that stuff. You need it. People need to see it. Everyone needs to be reminded that life is unquestioningly more enjoyable when you're not living inside an arbitrary set of rules created by people who are offended by all the wrong things.
if you see hardware on yhe ground like a washer or a hex nut you have to pick it up because itβs lonely and scared. if you see any metal on the ground you have to pick it up because itβs alone and scared and lonely.
they are deserving of love
you literally have to unironically listen to some shit like party rock anthem so you donβt kill yourself
there are places in the world today that are experiencing 40Β°C for the first time in recorded history. of course there's no way to know whether chucking billionaires into volcanos will appease the sun god but i feel we're doing the scientific method a disservice if we don't at least try
Oh! The intimacy of adopting each otherβs vocabulary.
