how long has it been? seconds? minutes? days?
it’s a paradox condition. something he’s gotten used to, but not really. there’s a flash of onyx handles against stark white, ticking painfully slow. the sound accompanies a faint drip – like the first drop of rain, repeating over and over and over again. it irritates him, for reasons unknown. an almost overwhelming feeling of nausea settles on his stomach, but it doesn’t churn, doesn’t twist. there’s only that unpleasant sensation and nothing else, and seojoon wonders if it’s phantom pain. he snorts at the ridiculousness of that particular expression in his current… condition.
temporary condition, he tells himself. it’s temporary.
it’s easy to get lost in his own mind when there’s no one to harass. harass because he wants no one’s company, and all other ghosts he’s encountered are all a bunch of self-pitying weaklings that do nothing but moan. and he’s not like that.
( i’m not weak. )
it’s even easier to get lost when seojoon gets flashes from a life he doesn’t remember, doesn’t care for, but wants to unravel. yet another paradox to add to the ever growing pile of mess that is his mind.
it’s too damn easy, and that’s why it surprises him when he suddenly notices a man standing in front of the old house. seojoon definitely wasn’t expecting anyone to come visit this house so soon, especially after scaring the fuck out of that teenager. not that he minds, of course. a grin grows on his lips and, like smoke, the unfamiliar memories disappear. seojoon is quick to leave the roof, keeping his existence hidden (for now) as he watches the young man enter the house, carrying with him a cluster of gimmicks he unfortunately recognizes.
oh, it’s one of those.
the guy’s taller than him, and that alone irritates him. but he also sports a facade of bravado, pointing his fancy gizmos everywhere – and that is adding fuel to the fire. seojoon scowls, has half a mind to just jump right in front of him, get him to run away— when he starts to speak, freezing seojoon on the spot. he observes from the top of the stairs, dumbstruck at the man’s introduction. is he… seriously introducing himself? is he for real?
a snort— no, a genuine laugh resounds in the foyer, one that is imperceptible to human ears. but seojoon hears himself clearly, and it’s been a long time since he’s laughed at something other than the terrified screams of idiotic teenagers. he’s amused, and it’s been a long time since he’s felt anything other than bitterness. seojoon is quick to follow him, keeping to the shadows, even if it’s an unnecessary precaution.
eyes are drawn to every inch of the first room he’s entered, flicking every which way as he doesn’t know what to focus on, doesn’t know what to zoom in on in his camera. one of the things he loves best about exploring old, abandoned houses is the snapshot of lap it captures, the moment before it became abandoned - it’s a look into the life of the former occupants, a look into the history breathing with him, it’s unique and, if he had more time, he’d spend hours, days, exploring each and every thing this house has to offer.
but he reminds himself that he’s only got a couple of hours to look through each room, to have a quick spirit box session, so he pushes on, pans around the room as he talks amicably, fills the silence of the house with his own mindless chatter, “so it looks like i’m in what used to be the dining room. with an old house like this being well know, i’m surprised it’s not torn apart by looters.” he pans over the china cabinet, zooming in on the intricate designs of one plate and the crystalline glimmer of a wine glass, before turning camera elsewhere.
“maybe whoever’s here with me, or here in the house, scared anyone off before they could actually take anything.” voice trails off into mindless murmuring, as caspar attempts to recall if the potential spirits of the owner, who was well-known for being a frugal man, would be lingering here. but he doesn’t give himself a chance to answer his question, as he’s quickly moving on, passing through the room, dark gaze glancing down every so often at the emf meter helpfully ticking in hand.
the dining room didn’t have spirit activity, according to those teenagers - a room upstairs did, an innocuous room with no bloodied history splashed onto its walls, and he’s keen to climb the stairs and commence with the spirit box session. but he wants to save the best for last, wants to build anticipation and tension up, so he continues on his path, exiting the dining room after sparing the reading of the emf meter ( and seeing it still reading as no activity ).
“the dining room doesn’t have much activity, according to my research. but the room that does will be saved for last, for a spirit box session. for now we’ll head into what looks like a living room. which -- woah.” breathlessness becomes evident in disembodied voice, camera picking up the way awe colors words as it records caspar opening the double doors, showing off a beautiful, antique living room. it feels as if he’s seen such a set up in old books, and he once more has the overwhelming desire to explore each and every nook and cranny the room has to offer.
any worries and fears of coming face to face with a potentially upset spirit has long since bled out of him, replaced only with an eagerness to capture the antiquity of this old house, with its creaking frame and old age rotting in its structure.

a mantle of eerie darkness encompasses every nook moonlight doesn’t dare to touch, penumbra cast over rotten wood floors. an odd thickness permeates the air, heavy and suffocating, and the mildew odor worsens the neurosis of being enclosed in the putrid room. nigh translucent,wafer-thin paper doors billow in the wind, torn and ruined by unforgiving decades. there’s a vase with decayed flowers on a windowsill, casting long shadows over a quivering teenager. he huffs and shakes, nestled against a tall dresser. he whimpers, eyes wide open and darting in every direction. his skin crawls when the withered open door closes with a loud bang, with no other soul there to close it, and he shouts deafeningly in the empty room.
that’s a lie, though. one other soul shares the same space, glides over the floor from one side to the other, with low moans of pain. dramatic? yes. cliche? definitely. fun? fuck yeah, it’s fun; to taunt the idiotic schmucks that think they’ll appear cooler to their equally idiotic group of friends with a childish courage test, to scare the living lights out of them. make them scream, and cry out for their mommy like a weak five year old.
“pathetic pussy.” seojoon mumbles, shoulder leaning against the moldy walls. the teenager’s heartbeat is starting to slow once again, breathing steady after a few deep inhales. seojoon frowns. “can’t have that.”
it’s easy to scare young people. the movies have perfected it, and he’s not ashamed to use the same tactics. silence settles, nothing but the slow, heavy exhales of the teenager can be heard. the wind blows through the open windows, rattles the doors and dry petals level down by the teenager’s feet. he breathes; once, twice. one second there’s nothing but dust flecks in the chilly air, and then seojoon appears, sudden and right in front of the kid’s face.
“fuck this!” the teenager screams, scrambling off the floor and running right through the door, ripping apart the paper even more. seojoon watches from the window as he joins his group of friends outside, urging them all to get the fuck outta there.
it’s only when they all leave that seojoon begins to laugh – cackling, really, fighting to stand against the windowsill. he laughs and laughs, laying flat on the floor. it dies down only when he figures he should, right about when his stomach would start to hurt. except it doesn’t, and the laughter disappears almost instantaneously, replaced by a rooted scowl.
“pathetic.” seojoon stares up at the faint light streaming through the window right above him. he extends his hand towards the dust grains that dance in the moonlight, half-expecting them to dance around his hand. yet nothing changes, the light refracts right through his hand and the shadows don’t recognize his existence.
“right.” he sneers at himself, tightly clenching his fist. seojoon materializes by the edge of the roof, legs dangling with a slow swing. seojoon sighs.
“fuck... death is boring.”
butterflies are aflutter within pit of stomach as he stands before the picture perfect set of every cheesy and serious horror movie caspar has ever seen and the world has offered - it feels almost too coincidental that the recent string of paranormal events that he’s heard wind of all point to a house on the verge of total dilapidation, though it does not surprise him. especially when he recounts the words of a group of teenagers that swear there’s something nefarious lurking therein.
the nerves running through veins and seizing stomach are equal parts anticipation and trepidation, though caspar doesn’t linger for long outside, as there is a ( yet again, oddly coincidental ) gust of sharp wind picking up and he’s not keen to linger outside where shadows will play tricks on gaze ( though inside will fare no better, as every little shadow and creak plays tricks on anticipatory mind ).
he’s quick to enter the old house, to pan the camera held in grasp up and down the foyer, up towards the old wood, along the spiderwebs adorning every available surface, briefly over photographs decorating walls. he spends a moment psyching himself up, readying himself for a brief exploration into the main rooms of activity ( an overnight stay will provide plenty of content for his viewers, if the comments about this house are to be believed, but he’s not keen on dying from fright or from falling through rotted floorboards ).
“to the spirit or spirits residing in this house, my name’s caspar ho and i’m here just to do some exploring and some recording. feel free to make your presence known now or later, when i break out the spirit box.” words come out steady, though they’re bound to tick up into sing-songy intonations if there is spirit activity in the following hours. a pause as he glances curiously about, spares a quick glance to the emf meter resting securely in free hand.
he lingers for a few seconds in the foyer, as if expecting there to be activity immediately, before head is shaken and steps are taken further inside. he only has a couple of hours to explore, not enough time to spend in all of the rooms, but enough to catch some sign of life after death, be it an evp or movement on his camera ; he has high hopes for tonight, nerves dissipating as he makes a beeline for the closest room.
@innersanctvm !!
hair is a disarray atop head, fluffed outwards in a halo of cotton candy pink ; it matches the sleepy droop to eyes and the roughened complaint that tumbles off tongue, voice sleep hoarse, “it’s too early.” it’s a little after midday, which is too early for caspar, who fell face first into bed at nine in the morning.

❝ i put the ‘ho’ in ghost — !!
↻ to spread the word ✚ for a new writing partner ❤ for a small starter
open to: anyone !! plot: caspar disappears off the grid often, especially when he’s behind schedule and needs to play catch up. don’t worry, though, he’s not dead.
“i’m eating, i’m showering, i’m drinking water, don’t worry --.” sleeping is, conveniently, left out. he doesn’t wait for his friend to enter his apartment, turning on heel and immediately padding back to his computer set up, falling back into the chair and resuming his work. one of the good things about halloween is the uptick in spirit activity everywhere ( and the half off candy on november first ) ; one of the bad things is caspar has so much raw footage to go through that he always falls behind schedule in the first two weeks of november. “i’ve spent, like, two days going through all the footage from that old house at the corner of hill and i don’t think i’ve gotten through half of it.”
open to: anyone !! plot: caspar loves the ghostbusters theme song and that’s about it. but it’s the month of halloween so he’ll make an exception for the movies ( but not without complaint ).
“come on - you’ve been bugging me since it became october to have a ghostbusters movie night and, now that i finally agreed, you’re taking forever.” it’s not as though caspar hates the famous movies - he’s just not particularly fond of the idea of forcing ghosts from their haunting grounds, rather than sending them on their way or simply leaving them be. still, he can admit to enjoying seeing the movies when he’s in a particularly good mood or when halloween rolls around. “i’m just gonna put on ghost adventures if you don’t hurry up.”

“Okay fine, but the moment that you have sex with a werewolf or any cryptid that’s animalisitc, you’re officially going to be a furry in my opinion and there’s nothing that you will be able to do to stop me from changing your contact name in my phone.” Kwangjo warned with a laugh, a smirk gracing his lips once again. Though Casper’s next comment caught him off guard enough for his eyes to widen a little bit. Even though it was the least surprising thing that had ever come out of Casper’s mouth. “Okay, first of all, you never cease to amaze me. Secondly, what else is on this infamous sex list of yours, if it starts with ghosts and Bigfoot?”
“that’s actually the worst possible thing you can ever threaten me with.” which meant, should caspar actually manage to strike that off his list, kwangjo wasn’t going to be one of the people who heard about it. a faint giggle escaped him upon seeing eyes widen, a smug grin quirking lips, as if there’s something to be proud for catching the other surprised. “i try, kwangjo, i really do try.” lips pursed in faux thought, as if caspar needed to think twice on listing which creatures he would have sex with in a heartbeat. “i never agreed to bigfoot, don’t put words in my mouth ! but, since werewolves are now off the list, any other humanoid creatures. y’know, vampires would be cool, they’re supposed to be sexy and everything anyway. a god would be pretty cool too, like ancient greece.” caspar liked to think he would thrive during ancient greece. “guess i could also fuck with a demon in that sense.”
ᴊᴏᴏʏᴏᴜɴɢ
maybe he got excited about the idea of death. he’s a demon and had been bored out of his mind since being summoned here. laughing softly, jooyoung laid back in his spot releasing a loud sigh. “that is so boring caspar.” it was at least for the demon. “i can’t believe murder isn’t on the table not even later on. what if one day you really need it? you aren’t going to ask?” he jokes, as he flashes the most innocent looking smile he could muster up. watching the other from his spot he nodded his head before sitting back up. “yeah a house guest leaves– but you summoned a demon who isn’t going anywhere.” which he wasn’t, he had been summoned and a deal must be made before he leaves. “if you bring me food that would get me to be less murder motivated but not to leave. you know what’s up caspar, there must be a worthy deal for me to leave.”
“it’s not boring, it’s normal.” though their definitions of normal are highly relevant to what they are, and murder is likely as normal to jooyoung as making videos is to caspar. “when am i ever gonna need you to murder someone, anyway ? i’m not some.. villainous guy.” he can hear the joking lilt in the other’s voice, and that only serves to annoy him even further, especially when he catches a too innocent smile adorning the other’s features. “i really have to make a deal to get you to leave ?” he read the specifications, read the consequences, he knows what he’ll need to get jooyoung to finally vacate his apartment ( the only thing stopping him from coming up with some innocent deal is the potential for loop holes and double-edged meanings in his words, or some other horror movie-esque plot twist that’ll get his soul sent to hell ). “fine - i won’t make a deal with you and i’m not bringing you food, but we can go out to get dinner.” a pause, nose scrunching and eyebrows knitting. “what is it you even eat, anyway ?”
ᴅᴇᴠɪɴ
“Like what? Ghost herpes? We need a better line than that. I’d argue that ghost fever counts and you’re already suffering.” He raises his brows, taking a step or two away in precaution. Lest he get pushed again. Lips purse before dropping in what he could only describe as shock. He doesn’t know the proper response, or even if there is one at all. “So like… godzilla is off limits but the loch ness monster is free game?” ‘Mothman’ the words are mouthed, but really the alien doesn’t have the slightest clue what that is. He’s picturing someone wearing moth wings and running at a light, creating the craziest and funniest picture in his mind. “Cas.. I think you need help.”
“well ghost-rhea doesn’t flow smoothly. what about spv ? y’know - spirit papilloma virus.” they’re getting off topic here, and devin is stepping further away, a smart thing given caspar’s tempted to swing at him one more time. he doesn’t, instead rolling eyes as exaggeratedly as he can at the other, head shaking firmly. “no, no, definitely not nessie. one, i’m pretty sure nessie’s a girl which, no thanks. and two, she’s in scotland and i’m not gonna fly there for sex.” because, of course, that’s the most ridiculous part of mentioning the loch ness monster as a cryptid whilst talking about having sex with cryptids. “and no i think i just need sex.” a pause, grin leveled on devin. “with humans, relax.” or a willing ghost or cryptid.
ᴋᴡᴀɴɢᴊᴏ
Kwangjo didn’t try to stop his laughter at Casper’s objections to being labeled as a furry, a devious smirk on his lips. “Well it’s not my fault that you’re dangerously close to stepping over that line, Cas.” He pointed out. The next statement had him shrugging though. A lot of things that humans would consider as weird sex things, Kwangjo could proudly say ‘been there, done that’. Including the infamous ‘have sex with a ghost or cryptid’ on Caspar’s list. “Sure but I’m not out there trying to get ghost ass. How do you think that would even work? Ghosts can’t exactly be tangible, y’know?”
if caspar had more shame, his features might be aflame with embarrassment, but he’d long since accepted his interesting fantasies ; still, the thought of being called a furry had him shoving at kwangjo’s shoulder, a chagrined smile curling his lips despite it. “can’t call me a furry if i haven’t crossed that line.” amusement quirked lips further, even as eyes narrowed in curiosity when the other shrugged ; just what had kwangjo gotten up to behind closed doors to warrant that reaction. he’s going to circle back to it eventually. “sure, maybe they can’t be, and maybe they can. but who says i need the entire ghost to check it off my list ?” eyebrows waggled lasciviously, a huff of laughter escaping him. “besides i’d be willing to expand beyond ghost and cryptid, those are just at the top.”
ᴘᴀɪɢᴇ
❝ that’s fine. just show up at my funeral after i die. y’know, for respect’s sake. ❞ not everyone could fight demons, she understood. hell, she would be toast against one too by herself. but, at any rate, she didn’t think it was demons haunting this place in the first place. she just wanted to tease him a little. sliding her cellphone in her back pocket, paige went in her bag to pull out a camera of her own. ❝ i think, between the two of us, we have plenty of cameras to use. we’re bound to catch something, if i don’t see it first. i’ll aim one at that area. we can explore this place a little more as we set them up. ❞ though the quick sight was startling, it got her adrenaline running and paige felt more ready to explore.
“just ‘cause i’d let a demon kill you while i run for it doesn’t mean i’d skip your funeral - i’m not a monster.” perhaps if caspar’s interests were less aligned with the spooky and creepy, this sort of casual conversation about a macabre topic would be unsettling to him but, alas, the creepy was right up his alley and this was a well-worn conversation. gaze slid past to the window, squinting at the shadows playing against the glass, before forcing his gaze away, unwilling to let his eyes play tricks on him so early in the night ( that was for when he wandered down shadowed halls and jumped at every little creak ). “sounds like a plan. think it’d be too ambitious to aim for a camera per room ?” grin was flashed at paige’s direction, as he was ambitious with his cameras but certainly not that ambitious. “or should we stick to the hot spots and, if we have leftovers, place them in halls and rooms where activity could happen ?”
