Today I found out that Deerstalker Caps are the absolute hardest thing to draw. Ever. Anyways I'm a whole ass detective now... how... mysterious? Alright that's probably the last time I update this thing.

2026-06-14: I called it and no one will ever believe me

I really wish I had posted "I'm pretty sure that this year, Art Fight is going to do 3 teams because of the unprecedented user count!" but I DIDN'T because I'm an IDIOT who doesn't write down his THOUGHTS. My other thought was that they were going to do Robots vs Aliens which would suck because I'd have to pick a side.

Anyways here is my new, thematically appropriate Art Fight card. I will probably make more "custom" artwork for it because I like profile theming and customization and yada yada yada.

I kind of wish there was a metric on the new Art Fight news post about how many responses in each category came from new users. How many people are passionately commenting on the rules without even having participated before? These rules weren't really an issue in years past, so it can't all be old users who suddenly read the rules page, no? Idk.

they're always bringing experts or activists on the news to agitate about porn and there's a standard script for this that's like "I think sex education is important, I'm not anti-sex, but so much of this porn is violent and misogynistic if not outright illegal, and it's far too accessible to our children"

I want to see someone finally be brave enough to say that the government should just make its own porn for teenagers that accords with community values, so they don't have to go to these shady places to get it. I think the government porn would probably be pretty bad but I would be so eager to hear about the process of designing it. there would be so many stakeholders and consultations. in canada it would have to be bilingual

2026-06-06: Kero Blaster

Brief text review / spoilers for the game "Kero Blaster" ahead.

I've had Kero Blaster sitting in my Steam library for a little while - I'm sure I bought it on sale at some point and just forgot about it. I love Cave Story very much, so I'm not sure why I didn't immediately give Pixel's next game a go as soon as possible. Whatever the reason, I finally cracked it open the other night.

While it's runtime is brief, I don't want to describe it as "all too short" or anything like that, because Kero Blaster is the perfect length for what a game like itself needs to be. Upon starting, you'll be done in around 2 - 3 hours, and that's assuming you stop to grind for coins for any real length of time. It ends exactly when you think it's going to end - it doesn't fake you out with a secret bigger bad that requires another 5 levels or anything like that, it just builds up a boss fight against a character you meet in the first act, and it works.

It's been a really long time since I've played a game as mechanically sound as Kero Blaster. While at times, The Frog can feel a bit sluggish or slippery, I never really felt like movement was a game design issue. It was a me issue. I'd occasionally misplace a jump, or have to awkwardly redo a platforming section because I neglected to remember that the Jetpack isn't very good, but the screens are so short, and the penalty for death so forgiving that it never really made me that upset. Everything just works, really well. Your blasters feel incredibly fun to use - if anything, they make you feel a bit too strong at times. It's a game where you walk down corridors shooting enemies. Castlevania 1, but you don't have to think too hard. I like that.

I think more than anything, Kero Blaster served as a great showcase of what a small solo dev project can be. You can take a few years, and make a Video Game. That's great! Daisuke Amaya is a fantastically talented man - the art is all great, and the music is even better. This game got me to think about what I want out of my own game, and how I could go about getting there. I know that's a bit vague, but so are my thoughts on this topic. I don't know!

I highly recommend Kero Blaster.

2026-06-03: Guess who worked on his website instead of his Video Game

This guyyyy (points thumbs back at self). No but for real, my website looks a lot better now.

It used to be GROSS,

and now it's COOL!

My old website was largely based on a template I got from sadgrl, which never really felt right to me. Like it was a cool template, but I didn't really feel like I knew HTML by the end of "Making" it. It just felt like I was slapping stuff into a pre-existing shell. This new one is all handmade though! It's not perfect, but it's a heck of a lot more well organized than the old one, so if you're interested you can give it a look.
