Whenever Thor was on a road trip with his friends, Loki stayed behind, waiting for him to return. No matter how much he begged and pleaded, Thor wouldn’t take him along. It’s all Loki longed for, to be with his big brother for more than a few days, but in Thor’s eyes, the road was not for him.
“You’re too young and soft, you won’t make a day out there,” Thor said, a cigarette loosely hanging from his mouth as he worked on his machine. Loki stood next to him, four years younger and still in school, nothing compared to him, to the beast of a brother he wanted to be close to so badly.
Loki nodded, unable to answer. It wouldn’t have helped anyway, he knew it. In Thor’s eyes he was just a kid who wanted to play with the adults, he didn’t know about Loki’s true reasons; his true feelings.
“Stay safe,” he said quietly and at this Thor stood up, snipping the cigarette rest away.
“Don’t I always?” he asked, ruffling Loki’s hair with a grin. “Be a good boy, okay? I might bring you a gift.”
Loki nodded again and smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. Once more he was forced to watch his brother leave, maybe for weeks, maybe for months. He never knew.
As he looked after Thor’s slowly shrinking silhouette, a tear rolled down his cheek. Loki wiped it away, swallowing the lump in his throat.
“I don’t want any gifts, brother…” he whispered into the upcoming night, more tears escaping his eyes without anything to stop them. “I just want you… I just want you to see me…”
