Thunder
I like the way the thunder makes me feel small The way it always contains a particular silence One that rises up in me And swallows me whole
Drive
Winds wild, stormy rain. Car lights so bright, lingering on electrical wires. Their fait dangling without holding on; merely gliding through the thoughts of forever, never reaching enough time to remember its end. Endless, for that’s where you bring me. Across the wide open range of my soul and this space. This place where we all form to and shape ourselves around. Like the sound of those tires along this ground, rolling, driving and chasing the whispers of forever.
You will never lose me. I will always be living in all the words that sum up everything meaningful to you. All the words that carry us beyond this life to the dreams we desire and attempt to paint into our lives. This road will take me, lead me to all the places I am meant for; and you and I will exist just like any other, bodies like magnets, ecstatic, holding on bracing for finality. Never to know how infinite this all is.
Walking Among Giants
Yesterday we walked among giants and danced under the stars. The great hawk's screams echoed in the hills as we prepared for a night in the wild. No running water, no lights, no fire. The mountains were too dry for fire this summer, so we bundled up in hopes the mosquitoes wouldn't find us. The earth was dusty, it seemed like water evaporated instantly and our bodies became filthy from merely walking to our tent. We put our food in bear proof boxes and in the morning woke up refreshed. Our tent was next to a narrow stream that was ice cold and flowing with tiny fish. This morning we sat on the rocks and cleaned our feet and faces, ready for a day in a new city.
Grand Canyon
The silence of the canyon is probably the most spectacular part of it all. The view itself brings silence. You can feel how alive the earth is just by seeing the cuts and crevices of the land. It has been carved out, scraped and molded by water and time. It brings to you quiet and peace. The breeze touches the skin gently; the birds soar, and the animals run along while their trails are absorbed by the stillness of the place. Echoes get lost in the air and clouds roll by in endless succession. The canyon makes me want to let go. Let go of everything I have been holding inside of me. It makes me feel like nothing else matters. The present moment is all that we know.
