Baby bird season is incoming and I’d like to remind everyone that birds do not have a significant sense of smell. Bird parents will not reject birdlets because you have handled them.
If you see smol birbs with few or no feathers on the ground, you can safely put them back into their nest, bird parents will still care for them.
If you see smol birbs with some or most feathers on the ground, please leave them there, as bird parents are probably nearby watching and feeding.
nakey bird = accidentally fell out, is cold and scared, put back in nest! if you can’t reach the nest, try to put it on a wide branch or fork so predators can’t get at it as easily.
scruffy feather bird = starting to try the fly thing, not very good at it. only put in nest/branch if predators abound, i.e. you have four outdoor cats and they’re licking their chops.
fluffy feather bird = smol fly guy! do nothing. can probably get away from predators and will flip its shit if you pick it up.
Reblogging this because I’d always heard the ‘Don’t touch a distressed bird its mom will reject it’ thing treated as fact before now, I didn’t realise it wasn’t true…
Just booked my flight to Minneapolis to visit Chris for Thanksgiving. Yes, you read that right... it is May and I just booked a flight for Thanksgiving.. in November.
No way am I taking a chance on price hikes and sold-out flights. It was surprising to see so many seats already sold for the flights I’m taking. The reality of this coming semester is sinking in fast. It’s going to be hard, but we’ll get through it.
Nice capture 🌅

This week is over. Finally. I thought Thursday night would never ever ever ever get here. Here’s what this week consisted of:
1. Universal Healthcare Policy Proposal for a mock society - 35 minutes, 4 person presentation + 15 page paper
2. Research proposal: “Among college aged males, will interventions surrounding health relationships result in reduction of controlling behaviors and intimate partner violence?” - 35 minutes, 4 person presentation + 10 page paper
3. Inquiry topic: “What makes a good death?” - 5 minutes, personal presentation + 5 page paper
I presented twice today. Goodness. Plus side to all these presentations is that by the time I got to the last one, I was much more comfortable and ended up not even looking at my note cards (a first for me). All in all, I feel accomplished and I am ready to relax. It should be down hill from now until finals week, which is two weeks away. We’re almost done with Spring semester... how crazy is that!? It feels like it just began.

Really Big Coin Skrekkøgle
This is our Really Big Coin. It is big because it makes other things look small when photographed next to it. Actually, it is a 20:1 replica of the EUR 50-cent, you see it being milled out here. We needed to do quite a bit of sanding, lacquering and smudging to obtain the desired look and some climbing to get into required shooting position (you need to get up real high to take good pictures). The result is a short series of photographs, attempting to visually scale down real-sized objects.

Cool!
when you’re having a nice time but remember you forgot to do something important
I did it... I can finally play Little Lion Man. I seriously assumed this was something I would never be able to do. That strumming pattern is so difficult, it almost makes no sense. But I was in the mood to look up some tutorials this morning and after about an hour of playing it piece by piece, over and over, I can finally play it. This week has been so long. It’s nice to take some time for myself.
Well, here it is.. that time of the semester where everything feels like it’s crashing down around me. It never fails.
Obviously, this is an exaggeration because I’m stressed and I recognize that. Metaphorically, it feels like it sometimes though. Somehow, every semester my department professors all have their major projects due during the same week. It’s almost as if they plan it out to be that way. One of my professors asked if we had a lot going on this week. I think she heard me and a few people talking about it before class. There was a collective class groan and her response was an unsympathetic “alright.” I think professors, even young ones, quickly forget what it’s like to have the stress of 5 classes all bearing down on you at the same time.. not to mention balancing work and everything else outside of that.
I’ll have to be extra vigilant about self-care this week, even though most times that just feels like something else on top of the list that I need to work on along with everything else.
This too will pass.

Hamburger Helper just dropped a mixtape for April Fools’ day — and it’s actually good
Sure, Kanye’s The Life of Pablo hit a whole slew of streaming services today. But what if you’re looking to listen to music that’s more underground — and perhaps, about ground beef?
Hamburger Helper (yes, that Hamburger Helper) is here to help with its very ownWatch the Stove mixtape, which dropped Friday in honor of April Fools’ Day. Yes, there are Auto-Tune hooks about how “Hamburger Helper is all that I eat / If you don’t serve it please take a seat.” Yes, there’s a smooth R&B number called “In Love with the Glove.” But corniness aside, the mixtape actually is pretty impressively produced, and catchy as hell. So perhaps the joke’s on us.
