Announcement about How We are Moving Forward
Dear Star Crossed Readers,
Thank you so much for going on this journey with us. When we had the idea to collaborate, we didn’t know how successful it would be. We’d never seen a crossover like the one we were writing, and while we were enjoying the process, the response we’ve gotten over the last year has been humbling, gratifying, and intensely validating. Thank you so much for your support. No matter how things go forward, we’ll never forget this experience and that’s all thanks to you, our readers.
A lot can happen in a year. In our case, a whole lot.
Star Crossed was planned as a four book series, starting with Star Burst. Each story would get deeper into William and Shane’s lives, and the remaining three books are not just floating ideas—they have been meticulously plotted from the beginning, with much of the drafting already underway.
However, as this series was fanfiction, we could not legally profit off of the work, outside of the donations we’ve received. This wouldn’t be a problem if our circumstances had remained the same as before, but unfortunately, this year has brought unanticipated change.
Ginger is going through a divorce. In a few months he will be relocating from Canada to the USA, a move that will be difficult and time consuming. We had the luxury of him being a house spouse during the writing of Star Burst, but once in the states he’ll need to work full time. On top of that, Ginger has come out to his family and friends as transgender and will be dealing with transitioning while all this goes on. (Please use male pronouns for him going forward).
One change, we could’ve rolled with. But these major disruptions—divorce, moving countries, finding employment, and transitioning—have made it impossible to continue with the same schedule. It is with heavy hearts we announce Star Crossed is going on a long hiatus, so half our team can get his life back in order.
But wait. There is more.
At first, we despaired at our timeline. We had three more books planned! But Star Burst was incredibly time intensive, and with both of us needing income, the idea of 3 more years of unpaid projects felt like a huge burden. We write for the love of the story, but our goal has always been to make a living out of what we do.
Ever since we began writing together, we knew we wanted to transition from fandom writing into original fiction. We’ve decided to speed that up.
We are going to rewrite Star Burst and publish it as the first book in an original series, then continue the next three novels as planned.
We’re keeping most of the plot from Star Burst, but scrubbing out all Stardew Valley elements. Of course, that means changing Shane’s name and living situation, but his emotions/personality/original backstory will remain. He and William will still feel like the same couple. Ginger has been writing his original version of Shane for many months, and we’re confident once you adjust to the new name, you’ll still love him just as much.
Please note, we’ll still be posting these stories online for free, chapter by chapter. Going original means we can profit via patreon and selling e-books to those able to support us, but we still want to make our work available to anyone who wants to read it.
If you came to this story for Stardew and stayed only for the connection to the fandom, we’re sorry. We value your time with us, but can’t keep working in a medium that doesn’t earn its keep. However, if you enjoy the original elements of what we’ve built, we hope you’ll follow us and finish this series to the end.
Once we have a more concrete idea of what to expect from our personal lives, the hiatus will end, and then we’ll announce solid posting dates. That’s something we’ve always stuck to: delivering on promises, and finishing stories.

Never in my life have I read anything like “For a Long Time Looking at Stars”. I’ve never read anything that hit every spot of my shitty childhood. Nothing has ever made me clinch up like I had my heart broken my junior year of high school. Nothing has ever changed my mood. Nothing has ever made me remember every shitty boyfriend. Every beer, every mistake. But I didn’t hate it. I fucking loved every damn word. I love you, love you both for making me feel something from a bunch of words.
Banchie, Draco here. We wanted to thank you so much for reaching out. As part of the delegation of tasks for our creative endeavors, I run 95% of the social media because I don’t possess an ounce of social anxiety and Ginger does 95% of the editing and formatting and titchy polishing because they don’t break down into hyperventilating tears from staring at the same edits for more than 25 minutes at a time.To be clear, “For a Long Time Looking at Stars” was a solo project that @ginger-delight-writes did all by themselves xD but when I passed along your sentiments they were very touched and made squeaking/blushing faces haha. So again, mucho appreciation for taking the time to express your love and I hope you know it is returned with humble gratitude.And man, I feel you. FaLTLaS was the first Stardew Valley fic I’d read that made me want to just, *know* someone deeply. Working with Ging on Star Burst has been a fantastic experience that has also brought me to reliving emotional moments and not caring that I was a sobbing mess after.There is no greater joy in knowing that your hard work to tap the human condition was not only felt but returned. If I may ask, will Starburst be, like, DONE done with the 24th chapter? Story of William and Shane all punched in and clocked out? I remember you guys saying the whole story would be quite long, and I adore your guys' writing styles to the earth and back, so I've let myself look forward to updates every other week as a little fictional vacation amidst the chaos of life. I guess I kinda just wanna know to start saying goodbye to the characters, if something came up that would end it sooner!
Hi Anon!The short answer is...sort of.The long answer is a bit more complex. When chapter 24 posts, we are going to lay out a very detailed announcement and outline of what is coming next. Now. When Star Burst is done, that Arc of their lives will be done. We have plans to extend things but again, it’s complex. Bear with us and next month, after the last chapter posts we’ll explain it all. Thank you for sticking with us and know that we are not anywhere close to being done writing or creating. I checked in with Ginger Anon, and if you were asking about the Shane/Garrett original story, YES that is still being planned. When we finish Star Burst, we’re going to make an updated announcement of what the future holds for us and our characters. I hope this helps!
