expensive mistakes

Sometimes fate is like a small  SANDSTORM that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm  chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over  you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn't something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something  INSIDE  of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step  . There's no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That's the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine.  And you really will have to make it through that violent, metaphysical, symbolic storm. No matter how  METAPHYSICAL  or  SYMBOLIC  it might be, make no mistake about it: it will cut through flesh like a thousand razor blades. People will bleed there, and you will bleed too. Hot, red blood. You'll catch that blood in your hands, your own blood and the blood of others. And once the storm is over you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to  SURVIVE . You won't even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won't be the same person who walked in.  That's what this storm's all about.

so honestly he didn’t think nothing of at first. he was thankful that the sister sorority had been generous enough to take them in and give them rooms to crash in. evan had been in one of the rooms, getting dressed for work– not paying much attention to who had walked in. ‘’hey listen, i don’t have much stuff over here.. it’s just that little duffle bag in the corner overe the-’’ pointing over to the dufflebag, evan looks up and when he sees who it is he can’t help the little smile. ‘’sup gio?’’

Truth be told, she didn’t mind having the boys from their brother fraternity stay at the Delta Psi House. Aside from the house being a little... louder than usual it didn’t seem to be that big of a deal. Besides, it’s not like the boys could help their situation. Gio had been going around the boy’s dorms, trying to see if they needed any help settling in. Of course, she saved the best for last. “Hey.” She replied with a smile of her own but she made no attempt to enter the room. Was it because she was shy or because she was trying to be nonchalant? She didn’t even know herself. “Just popping in to see if you needed anything. Must suck having to be stuck in a house full of girls, huh?” A grin rose from her face as she spoke, her tone indicating that she was speaking in jest.

Giorgia had invited Alice to dinner tonight. Some new restaurant in town that was supposed to be really good ( and expensive but let's be real, Gio didn’t pay attention to that ) so she figured it would be nice to check it out with some company. It was nice having Alice back in her life. It was a bit awkward though. After months of avoiding each other, it was a little weird to suddenly be on speaking terms again. Especially after hooking up in a bathroom stall. Still, Giorgia was grateful. She had spent the last thirty minutes trying to give herself a pep talk. There was no reason to be nervous! She was just going to go eat dinner with... her ex that wasn’t really her ex because they technically didn’t label their relationship but it definitely feels like an ex because of the history- okay, she was overthinking it again. With one last deep breath, she tried shaking out her nerves before knocking on Alice’s door. She waited patiently for it to open and when it did, she easily greeted the younger woman with a smile. “Hey. You ready to go?”

Adam frowned at the offer of wine, but alcohol wasn’t really what he wanted out of this. “Wine’s fine,” he said. He requested the car and when it arrived, he motioned for Gio to sit first. He stared at Gio when they were both in the car and he wondered if she understood what his intentions were, or if she knew and was playing dumb to keep him away.

After buckling her seatbelt, she took her phone out of her purse to text her friends that she was fine. As she did, she noticed him staring at her but she tried to ignore it. It was a bit hard though considering the silence between them. After a moment she turned back to look at him, raising an eyebrow in question. “What?”

He ignored her question about his major with a shrug. But when she spoke again, he answered this time. “Let’s go to my place. Or yours. Doesn’t matter.” He took his phone out his pocket and opened an app on his phone. “Uber?”

Gio noticed that he completely ignored her question and she couldn’t help but wonder if it was because there was a personal reason behind it or simply because he didn’t care to answer. Man, Adam was one hard but to crack. Her brow furrowed as she stared up at him, confused by the sudden change of plans. “We can go to my place, but the only liquor I have is wine. Whichever works.” She shrugged, shivering lightly at the action. “Uber works.”

The peaceful after-school hours are brutally disturbed when a rusty car speeds into the parking lot. Tires screech as the vehicle drifts, almost in the shape of a doughnut. Behind the wheel is no one other than Lonnie, sat there with a confident look, for someone who doesn’t even own a car –– that’s right, this thing isn’t even his –– and a cigarette between his teeth. Sunglasses would complete this whole look, if it weren’t for the fact it’s the middle of fuckin’ winter. He stops vehicle not far from where the girl’s stood, rolls down the window and sticks his head out. “Get in, snake!” he demands, the look on his face far from the friendliest as he eyes his new radio show partner. 

The shrill noise of the tires was enough to make Gio jump the moment she heard them. Her eyes widened as he pulled up, clearly aghast at his dramatic entrance. Despite their reaction they still walked up to the vehicle, opening the door with a roll of her eyes at his snake comment. “Hello to you too, you fucking lizard.” The brunette took a seat on the passenger side, immediately turning to grab fasten her seatbelt. “Was that you being flashy or are you actually that shitty of a driver?” Gio was beginning to regret not offering to drive herself. “It’s a parking lot, Lonnie. Not a race course.”

“Mechanical engineering,” he answered. He watched her wrap her arms around herself and he remembered the dress she was wearing. And he remembered how much he liked it. “What if we skip the bar?” He stopped walking to face her. 

“What made you get into that?” Gio figures a bit of small talk wouldn’t hurt on their way to the bar. However the moment Adam stopped she did as well, her head tiling slightly in question. “Skip the bar? And so what instead?”

“Hopefully.” Adam nodded at the bouncer as he walked out of the club. His gait was pretty steady despite being a little bit drunk. “That job seems like my kind of job,” he told Gio, pointing at the bouncer. “He probably says no all the time and it’s his job. Think I could do it?” He began walking down the street toward the next bar.

Gio was good at keeping her composure, even while tipsy. She couldn’t even count how many times she had gone to charity balls after a few glasses too many of champagne. Her eyes went to the bouncer as soon Adam pointed at him. “I think you’d be great at it,” she responded with a laugh, nodding her head in affirmation. “Maybe you should consider a career change.” She wrapped her arms around herself the moment they stepped out of the establishment. It was a cold night and Gio’s dress wasn’t exactly the warmest outfit. Oh, what she did for the aesthetic. “Speaking of, what are you studying again?”

New years trip- Gio & Hugo

thank god hugo passed the hell out before this because otherwise, he wouldn’t let him drive either if that were the case. he finally fell asleep after that trip to justin’s mostly because he was up for hours beforehand and he couldn’t physically keep his eyes open anymore but now he was well rested. a laugh escaped his lips as he looked in the back of the car and he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. “well, that backpack was all i brought from home. most of the stuff in my room was gifted to me by the guys. i felt like i had to bring it.” he said with a shrug not really thinking about how this must be gio’s first time on the road. though he always thought that women tended to overpack in general. he appreciated it though, it would probably make the trip more bearable to sit through. in the years that he had been at yale he never thought that he would be going to ontario any time soon. he could remember the streets that he grew up on and the neighbors that shunned his family off for being alcoholics. this was going to be strange bringing gio of all people with him when he knew that he was going to have to end things with her. getting into the drivers seat he put on his belt buckle and adjusted everything to his height. “you got your passport and everything?” he asked looking over at her before pulling his own out of his bag and putting it in the armrest, leaving it open so that she could put hers in there as well. “hey.” he said his hand gently resting on top of hers and he stared down at their hands intertwined for a brief moment. “thank you.” he said finally squeezing her hand softly before giving her a soft smile. 

Giorgia nodded at his words, deciding it was best not to comment on something she couldn’t relate with. When she came to college she didn’t bring much from home either, but that was because she got completely new things as soon as she arrived.  “I do.” she nodded her head, checking her bag just to verify that she did, in fact, bring them. Once that was verified she took them and placed them in the armrest along with his. Green eyes looked up at him when he rested his hand on hers. A small smile formed on her lips as he thanked her. “Of course,” she answered simply, giving his hand a light squeeze. She had never gone on such a long road trip before, but she was just as excited as she was nervous. She didn’t know what to expect from this trip or Hugo’s hometown, but she was glad he was giving her this opportunity to get to know him better. Maybe even help him overcome whatever demon he appears to be running away from. “Can we stop by to get some coffee? I feel like we're going to need it.”

Gio didn’t know the first thing about comforting someone. Much less when they were crying.  She never got that as a child and she knew that Alice probably didn’t either. The first thing she decided to do was to give Alice personal space, so she let the younger woman go. Then she stood, quietly, as the other spoke about her parents. Truth be told, Gio was going to tell her parents about Alice too. She was going to come out to them. For once in her life, she was going to tell her parents who she was instead of the other way around.. That was why it hurt so much when Alice suddenly disappeared. Any courage she had gained to come out to her parents withered. Alice was right. Gio did tell her that she didn’t want to see her anymore after their big fight. “I did say that. I’m sorry.”  At the moment it felt justified, but now that she knew what Alice had been going through she couldn’t help but regret those words. Her brown furrowed lightly in confusion as she said that she wanted them to be together. Gio couldn’t help but wonder what exactly she meant by that. In her mind, there was no way they could just go back to how they were as if nothing happened. Not right away at least. “It’s not that easy Alice,” she spoke quietly, trying to be careful. “Maybe we can... I don’t know. Be on speaking terms now and work our way from there?”

‘‘I don’t know, I felt like you weren’t going to forgive me and I thought at this point you’d kinda hate me for the way– I just– ghosted and I’m just.. sorry for all of it and WOW I really need to stop rambling.’‘ Both his hands go up to hide his face for a moment, peeking through his fingers to get a look at her with a hint of a nervous smile over his features. ‘‘I’m sorry. Like, I don’t know if you’ll get tired of hearing it– which I think you will but I’m.. seriously so very sorry for being an ass and.. I’m just– an asshole in general and I understand if you’d like.. hate me.’‘

He appeared nervous and she knew that the way she had her eyes right on him maybe didn't do much to ease any nerves but she couldn’t help it. She was studying him, his expression, mostly to see if he was being genuine. “I don’t hate you.” she reassured, a small smile forming on her lips as she reached to grab one of his hands. “Kinda hard to hate someone who just got me front row tickets to see the fireworks.” she nudged him, hoping her tone was light enough to make him relax. “Speaking of, they should be starting pretty soon right?”
