The drop in quality is ASTOUNDING. Cheap materials. Cheap fabrics. Mattel continues to Barbie-fy AG in both style and quality while still selling at boutique prices so that they can retain modest revenue but never capturing the 2010s milestones. If this is how a billion dollar company survives a downward economy and tariffs, then WOOoof.

I don’t have much of an opinion on Mattel milking their adult audiences with nostalgia bait. My problem is the gradual shitification of their products and the drop in quality, while their prices go up thanks to Trump tariffs.
This is not an era where it’s fun to be a collector.

I live in Minnesota. My dolls usually don’t concern themselves with human affairs, but even they are feeling some kind of way right now.
I’ve slowed down AG collecting in 2025. Here are the only dolls I got this year, dressed in holiday outfits! Two of them are secondhand, one was purchased during an AG sale, and the other was a birthday gift. I’m really digging #112 in Molly’s school outfit and #128 in Samantha’s holiday dress.
I have one more on the way (one of the new additions to the modern line, also purchased super on sale). Any guesses on who it is??
I am 72 and have been with AG since 1986. I had several AG collector friends through the years and we would give certain of our AG dolls "personalities" and have them "write" to each other. Purely imagination, and purely FUN! I have now outlived the last 3 AG dollfriends. The one who recently passed was 87.
I would like to find a new AG doll friend or several who might enjoy this activity. It can be "snail mail" as well as emails. In the past my doll friends and I would occasionally send each other cute little AG scaled doll things and outfits in the mail a couple times of year. I miss this activity and would like to start again. Long term relationships are hoped for!

The new American Girl catalog has just dropped and it features the new AG Sisters line of 14.5 inch dolls. Interesting twist: they appear to have rooted hair rather than wigs. (Not my video).
My two cents: This is just more Barbification of AG, by which I mean, cheaper materials, downgraded quality, repeated releases of designs, including characters, clothing, and accessories, and all at inflated prices while AG coasts on the "luxury" label without producing luxury products.
Thoughts on AG Coffee Shop?
Does anyone own the AG Coffee Shop and have thoughts on this playset? I don't own any of the modern playsets, but the current 20% off sale (and an incoming bonus from work), is making this seem very appealing.
Part of me wants to throw away $70 just to see what actually arrives.
Is that too much to ask for? ✨

My Temu package arrived today and I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially since the item got discontinued since ordering. But it finally arrived and is pretty cute and runs plenty big. A very cute AG piece for a fraction of the cost ❤️
Hey absolutely no hate to OP because the internet is a big place and it's hard to know where everything comes from so this is strictly a PSA and not an attack on this post. (Seriously don't be mean!) But please, this is my American Girl artwork. My art is not on Temu. I have never nor will I probably ever sell on Temu. People stealing these images and reselling them has been an issue in the past.
A lot of these were also struck down by a DMCA takedown on TeePublic (the only shop I've ever used to sell prints of this art) and I've kept them as just art online you can enjoy. While that probably sucks for people who wanted the art, I do hope people respect not to profit off my artwork. Just because I'm unable to sell a lot of my AG prints doesn't give anyone the right to steal and profit for their own gain. Also whoever is selling these on Temu also is just not making a good print. Copy-pasting these girls together and making a blown up bad looking print kinda reflects poorly on me as the artist so full shade to whoever is/was selling this product.
This is genuinely just a PSA for people who know my art and see it. If it isn't on my TeePublic shop then I am not selling it anywhere and that seller is not me.
Anyways, please be respectful and do not resell my art. And if you see it and know it's my work, please know the seller is not me and don't buy from them. I'm glad at least it sounds like the seller has this as a discontinued product but kinda feels like they'd do it again so that's lame.

Hey buds — I would also add buying anything on Temu is a cybersecurity risk. We joke that they’re probably harvesting huge amounts of data, and it’s almost certainly true. If it’s wicked cheap, then it’s too good to be true.
Surprisingly for being a doll collector, I find changing clothes a tedious chore, but look here — I managed to dress a few for summer 😂
