Deaf woman wakes up with deaf husband in bed woken up by service dog.
Early morning turn to alarm clock showing 6am.
She gets up slowly to bathroom, petting dog.
Husband rolled opposite of her still sleeping.
She is shown drawing bath, turning to her reflection in mirror, opening drawer revealing pregnancy test.
Looks back at her reflection. Picks up box and puts it back closes the drawer.
Woken by sharp contractions during a peaceful sleep, starts to hear loud thumping heartbeats in ears.
Struggling to balance getting up and labor pains she nudges husband sleeping next to her.
She struggles without signing and yelps out loud of labor pains
Her husband is suddenly by her side and sees a pool of red fluid in bed sheets
He motions to her and carries her to the car. Hazard lights on.
In agonizing pain ears ringing they arrive to emergency room doors honking car horn
He gets out and motions for help at nurse inside.
Nurse rushes outside with wheelchair and begins mouthing words.
He carries her out of the car and tris his best to watch the nurses mouth in slow motion.
Ineffective, he motions that they are both deaf and sign for baby
The nurse nods and waves for him to put her in wheelchair
The nurse hurries inside with her to nurses station
(All attention turns to her from now on.)
She tries to search for husband amongst nurses crowding her and flailing at her
Shes forced to abruptly turn to nurse directly in front of her yelling in her face
Sweat in her face, squirming in chair, quiet yelps weakly motions pen and paper
Her husband is shown the door to move car explains him not there
Ignored by nurse for pen and paper she is rushed through double doors to delivery room without her husband.
Zoom in of her and then her perspective of silent labor pains and silent environment, starts to scream at the chaos around her out of frustration because of inadequate communication.
No help understanding what is going nurses poke and prod her with needles
Angry, frantic, scared, in enormous pain, stuck looking for a way out is being held by other nurses to hold still.
In a small town at a hospital severally lacking; have no interpreters on hand in the middle of the night;
She and them can’t brake the language barrier, doctors assume surgery position without her nod of consent.
Her husband rushing back eager to get to her is motioned to wait in waiting room.
Back in the delivery room they lay her all the down and roll her bed out to the hall,
Out of control to her own body and person is caught under the bright ceiling lights,
Blinding her, doctors becoming apparitions above her, creeping feeling of tiredness
Passes out from arduous exasperation.
