The internet is not what it once was, it has become a pool with both a shallow and deep end. In the shallows, it can be a safe place of self-expression but a dark, hurtful, place in the deep end. And the inhabitants of the deep end are what we know as Trolls. Trolls are monsters who lurk behind the screen to inflict hurt on others through the internet. And since the start of social media and the internet, these trolls have done nothing but grow and cause more damage. Trolls are often referred to as the monsters who hide and thrive in the darkness and threaten people online. As a Cronkite School student, I have learned that the influence of online Trolls is greater than we think. Trolls go beyond just hurtful comments but participate in doxxing, which is the act of publishing the personal data of users. These trolls are turning social media into a giant high school bathroom where they wait to prank the next student that comes in.
