Leo could tell immediately by his words that he just wasn’t up for talking about what’s going on with him, so a distraction he would get. Sometimes that was the best thing for a person, to be able to just relax, breathe, and think about something other than what their mind wants to scream at them. Even he himself enjoyed that, and music made it so easy for him to get lost in positive thoughts.
Phichit and himself were pioneers when it comes to taking care of their friends, and he had to wonder where Phichit was. If Phichit were to walk in on Yuuri now.. he really doesn’t know how that would go down, if it would only make him break down again when Phichit notices the teary face, or would Yuuri try to keep his cool and play it innocent? Either way, Leo just hoped that it could be avoided, Yuuri not having to go right back down the rabbit hole now that he was coming out of it.
Focusing on the new topic, a topic he knew very well, it was easy for Leo to get excited and it showed brilliantly on his face.
“I didn’t know you would recognize it! It’s been a popular song lately, over here in California too. It’s sort of a fun party song, even if you’re not actually at a party, it’s the kind of song that gives you energy. Or, it does for me at least.” Leo gives an embarrassed laugh, wondering if Yuuri was going to figure out that he was the type to occasionally dance in his room, especially when he’s cleaning himself up in the morning.
“If you like this song, there’s another one that has an upbeat tune..” Looking back in his phone, where had the music playing, he put on a new song, as he said, it was similar to the other.
“Do you tend to like songs that are popular in the moment? Or some songs from a few years ago? I have some cool remixes of songs too, and mash ups of different songs that basically create a whole new song. They’re so creative!”
Leo didn’t even realize he was rambling, smiling the entire time as he flipped through his phone again, naming a few songs that he thought Yuuri could like, even if he knew he might not remember later. He even offered to send Yuuri a few playlists if he was interested, his excitement knowing no bounds. Music was the one thing that gave me 100% comfort and confidence, and he really hoped it could do the same for Yuuri. Even if it only gave him an ounce of relief.
━━━⟨ something about seeing how excited and happy the other skater was just from the topic of music helped ease yuuri a bit. to see someone passionate about something so much like this . . to have that drive to continue on. he watched from his side of the bed, still keeping that distance between him and his phone. he wasn’t quite ready to reveal himself; just needed to hear a different voice other than his own right now.
the music was quite upbeat, he noted as soon as it was mentioned, recognizing that it was similar to the type of music leo had skated to. it truly said a bit more about the other skater as he listened closely. his eyes closed, taking a deep silent breath while listening to the new song. although it may have seem he had not been paying attention, but to keep his mind distracted, he clung on to every word, taking in every syllable and taking note of the accent leo held. it was as if he was looking at him as a whole new person, meeting him for the very first time. each question ran through, hardly any space to speak his reply, and in a way, he didn’t mind that. that had only meant less time for him to speak to continue listening. perhaps he could return the favor of sharing his own passions ━ an image of viktor popped into his mind and the way he skated in the last grand prix. his entire body tensed up tight and he grabbed his phone to finally reveal himself, half of his face hidden behind his knees as he looked unto the screen. “ . . I’m . . I’m not too picky with music, to be honest . . “ he murmured. “ However . . I wouldn’t mind listening to those remixes when I can. “ a thumb rubbed the side of his phone, mostly through anxiety. “ Which ones are your favorites . . ? You seem to have quite the collection of these remixes . . Do you plan to use one of these songs for a future skate ? “ the one thing he wanted to avoid talking about, he brought up skating anyways. it couldn’t be helped, however. he loved the sport way too much.
