He did some really fucked up things! He was a bully! He was dealing with a lot of trauma! He had a pretty impressive character arc with some major personal growth! Whether you love him or hate him, it's hard to feel so-so about Karofsky.

Glee's Most Controversial Character Tournament Results
The votes are in, and the final round is complete. We now know, in an extremely objective manner, who is Glee's most controversial character.
The primary determiner for how controversial a character is was how split the opinions were on them - how similar the number of lovers and haters the character had. When facing a tie in that measure, the number of votes in the poll was factored in, assuming that a character which received more votes overall was necessarily more controversial. Those variables are mapped out on this graph:
Hunter was by far the least controversial character in the final round, with almost 40% more people hating him than loving him.
Bryan Ryan and Azimio were completely tied, with an equal number of votes and the same percentages of love and hate.
Rachel received the most votes, with almost 200.
Both Holly Holliday and Dave Karofsky had only 1% difference between their love and hate results. Karofsky's poll had an extra 12 votes, pushing him over the top to be the most controversial!
