"NO ONE," yuzu whines, covering her face with her hands. "...just a friend, that's all."
"i think it's best that's all they are."
Hey Ramune, just how exactly DID you end up digging graves for your Landlords??
"weak, weak, they're all so WEAK. they're scared of me, gYAHAHAH!!" ramune cackles, dropping the tray of muffins down on the counter with a loud clang. "i have to find other jobs. salmon run. grave digging. bakeries. but i stay in the back. talking to customers is BORING, gyeheh!"
carefully, they start to remove the muffins and arrange them neatly on a decorative plate. "now, you go away unless you want to be turned into candy, GYAHAHA!!"
Hey Fundashi!! You know that TAALLL mysterious fish man you totally didn't draw?? >:) turns out that's Yuzu's uncle!! You could totally get a peek at him again if you get in Yuzu's good graces.

How's school going Yuzu?? Got any friends you talk to there? Studying hard or hardly studying?
"it's not hard, but not easy, either. i don't have any friends at school. i'm too busy," she says, though it sounds rehearsed, like an automatic response. having no one is better than having bullies, in her opinion.
"there's tiao, and mirio, and demise, and now i have a puppy, too," she sounds a little happier this time, at least. "i like all of them a lot better than anyone at school."

satou looks around curiously. she figured it wouldn't be hard to find murasaki, but there hasn't been any sign of him so far, and he isn't answering his phone, either. maybe she should've called ahead. after looking around for a few more minutes, she waves over to one of the employees to get their attention.
"yes? how may i help you?" the bellboy asks, looking entirely too happy to be cleaning. murasaki sure lucked out hiring someone like this, satou thinks to herself.
"ah, i was wondering if you knew where murasaki went," she replies.
"of course!" the bellboy perks up, as if they were expecting such a question. "the boss left not too long ago, actually."
satou tries not to let the concern show on her face. she's not sure how often murasaki's been visiting azuki's grave - she just knows that he'd been shutting himself away a lot more since the funeral - but she hopes he'll be alright regardless.
"i see... and has yuzu been around today?" satou asks. the bellboy doesn't even take a second to think about it before shaking their head.
"no, i believe she would be at school at this time. shall i take a message for you?"
"that's alright, i just came to check in with both of them," satou returns the polite smile the bellboy gives with one of her own. this person is way too happy. "i'll see if i can meet up with murasaki, then. thank you, though!" the bellboy gives a respectful nod as satou turns to leave. they're a little weird, but as long as they get the job done, satou supposes they're fine.
with the appointment finished, yuzu finds herself being led to one of the springs' gardens, where murasaki said her 'present' was. she has no idea what to expect - especially from someone who doesn't know much about her yet. something that requires the help of someone else, apparently.
the inkling stands up to meet them, but all yuzu can look at is the creature behind them.
"you like him? his name's sandwich," the inkling smiles in amusement. "and i'm kona, from the rescue shelter. your uncle says you're gonna help take care of this little guy from now on, is that right?" that finally gets yuzu to snap her head upwards.
"ah, i... i guess so," she says sheepishly.
"you can go and meet him, it's okay," kona encourages, stepping aside to give them some space.
"he still needs to finish his obedience training since he's just a pup," kona continues. "your uncle says he can handle it, but i'd recommend tagging along so you'll know how to train him, too. if you ever need help with anything, you can also give me a call anytime." yuzu looks back at the two of them while letting sandwich sniff her hand.
"thank you, both of you," she says with a rare smile. kona gives her an assuring nod, though murasaki only looks away.

"these are gonna shock you a little so it will hurt, unfortunately. but if you ever feel like it's too much, just let me know, okay?" yuzu hears satou tell her. she nods, not quite trusting her voice. it's a little scary, of course she's scared. everything feels like it's passing by her in a blur.
"murasaki will absorb any excess electricity while i make some adjustments, so just try to bear with it if you can," satou continues after she's hooked up the nodes to yuzu's temples, "you're half-zapfish, which means you'll have to get used to electricity running through your veins. but don't worry, i'll try my best to make it easier for you going forward."
yuzu blinks. murasaki is still murasaki. it just felt like, for a moment... no, it must be her nerves. she takes a deep breath like murasaki told her. his hand pats hers a little awkwardly.
"after this, i... have something to give you," he says, averting his gaze. "a present, i guess. so just hang in there, okay?"
a present sounds nice. yuzu's chest feels a little lighter. it'll be okay.

"me and him, we're not on bad terms or anything. we actually got along pretty swimmingly, heh. but i wouldn't say we were head over heels for each other, so, uh, it's nothing to worry about!"
"i guess, i just hope he's doing alright."
Ok so yuzu's mom is dead, but what happened? how did she die???
"murasaki would probably make you kingyo's new chew toy if you asked him, and asking yuzu might upset her... so try not to bring it up with them, i guess."
satou's smile fades, and she looks down at the file she'd been writing in earlier.
"and thank you for the ride, kingyo," yuzu reaches up as kingyo lowers its head to meet her so she can give the big goldie a pat on the snout.
"miss yuzu take care," the beast growls, "if you in trouble... call kingyo. miss yuzu smell... like master azuki... i find you."
"you can also just call me or satou if you need help with anything, though satou will be in contact with you more," murasaki adds. yuzu nods as she finishes giving kingyo scritches under its chin. murasaki turns to start climbing back up onto kingyo's back, but pauses for a moment.
"oh, and... if your sea urchin friend comes by, tell him i have something to return to him. i promised a free bath, too," he says a little begrudgingly. yuzu tilts her head, her smile turning a little conspiratorial.
"so you can be really nice sometimes, too," she muses quietly.
"huh?" murasaki nearly growls, his face crumpling as if he'd just eaten a lemon.
"nothing. bye, uncle murasaki!"
