What would convince her?
What would convince her?
Sam tapped her foot impatiently on the floor, at the time when it happened convincing Lady Makio of how important it was to save Gene seemed like the easiest thing in the world, but now that she had to actually do it she was finding it far more difficult. He was like a brother to her, but only not. She knew he wasn’t perfect like Gabriel, but she didn’t want him to be. She liked Gene as he was, she wished he didn’t hear the voices and that there was another way for him to keep them out, but that wasn’t him. Oh Arceus, she thought to herself, don’t mention the voices to Lady Makio.
"What would you say?" Sam asked making a wild gesture with her hands, "What would you say t’ save yourself, because I honestly don’t know." She sighed deeply the Halo S’ beeping the only answer she was getting, "The thing is, whenever I think of why you’re important t’ me I think of how you have this, Arceus forgive me, shit headed grin half the time an’ it drives me mental because you just look so smug with yourself an’ I know I just have t’ ignore it because if I do say something you try an’ find the fastest way of annoyin’ me. Or how you have no sense of personal space, I mean I like the hugs and such just fine, but you really can’t have me believe that people in your time really kiss each other as much as you do. An’ neither of those are good things but for some reason they keep popping into my head.
Then there’s always the fact that Lady Makio has someone that needs, whatever it is she’s got, t’ live. And as much as I loved hearing you play the piano, or dancing with me, an’ a million other things I could name, how could that make her want t’ save you any more than how she feels now? She’s got her own special memories of her loved one. For a while I thought I should just name what you’re good at, an’ we both know there’s a lot, yet, that doesn’t feel any different than describing a prize mareep.”
She stayed silent for a while burying her face in her hands trying to think of something, anything that could make a difference.
"I don’t know Gene, I’ll figure out something that’ll get her t’ save you. We’re both just complete and total messes an’ I need t’ find the right words for it… You’ll be fine though, I promise, this is the one thing I can help you fix.”
"What's wrong, hmm ? " the stranger asked as he moved one of the pawn on the chess board.
Gene stared blankly at his hand. "....It's warm....it feels...like someone..."
He looked then at the board and moved his own piece. "...."
" So passive are we ? So unlike you. " he chuckled moving a piece. "Don't you worry, it wont be long until you lose. " he continued. Gene looked up at him and snarled. " Ridiculous, what makes you think I'll lose to you. I'm very good at chess you know. "
The stranger grinned. " And yet you never won against daddy, huh ? Sad. And you lost a dozen's of times already with me. You make the same moves over and over. You're predictable. " he added.
Gene bolted from his chair and stepped back a few times. " Who the hell are you ? Why can't I...remember you ? It's like I know you...and yet...I don't."
The stranger gestured Gene to sit back down. "Does it matter ? You'll forget this even happened anyway. And I hate to explain it so many times. You know who I am. You always do. But your brain is a bit....confused at the moment....it's your turn by the way. " he pointed out.
Gene sat back down and moved his piece in response. "Check"
"Oh ! Good move ! But..." the stranger moved the queen and - "Checkmate, buddy. "
Gene said nothing. He lost ? How ?
"Because you repeat the same mistakes over and over again. It's not hard to beat someone who makes the same moves you know. "
"Gin. That's your name isn't it ? " Gene abruptly announced.
Gin nodded his head a bit. " Smart boy... That's what I call myself anyway. It's nicer to have a human name than my actual name." He cleared the board and put each piece back where they originally started.
"Now, shall we play again ? "
