Tomorrow I play in my last game of rugby ever. I finish playing with my university after 4 hard fought years of training, practices and games! Tomorrow I play in my last championship game ever, along side some of my best friends. Rugby has become my identity here at my university. “She’s on the rugby team”. #3 and #4 with a big T on the front. Representing my school, myself, the girls that have come before me, the girls along side of me, and the girls that will come after me. Being a Tommie has been everything to me, my biggest accomplishment of my life thus far, and to see it end, makes me feel so lost. Like a loss of identity. Entering the locker room for the last time, dancing like fools during the pump up before the coaches chat for the last time, hearing the game plan and the speech the coaches have prepared as we head to the field for the last time, warming up to the sound of my team’s custom made mixtape for the last time, being on that starting lineup for the last time, and hearing the fans scream my name during a big run for the last time. It just all went too fast. You really don’t know how much something means to you until it ends. This season has been an emotional roller coaster for me. Starting off by being diagnosed with Mono, and only being able to return with three weeks left of season, really had an effect on me. But, I know I’m strong. Not many people can recover from mono in a month and a half and return to a full contact sport. God answered my prayers, and let me have those last three weeks to give it my all, and eventually make it back into the lineup. 22 out of 31 girls will dress tomorrow. I will be one of those girls that dresses and I will give it my all when given the opportunity. My team will leave that field tomorrow with gold medals around our necks and I will remember that as my biggest accomplishment as a rugby player; leading my team to a golden year. Tomorrow I play in my last rugby game ever. And I am ready 🏉
