Bellisima_writes/Bellisima (she/her) is one of the late-comers to the Good Omens world, ultimately drawn in by talents of the faithful fandom around the time of Season 2. Writing was not originally on the horizon for her, but it only took a little nudge - and some differing perspectives - to fully captivate Bellisima’s mind into sharing her own interpretations of this ineffable world. Keep reading as we learn more about her own fantastic journey into the creative writing realm.
Here’s a little bit of info about our featured writer and what she does to occupy her time when she’s not writing 📝
“Hello! I’m Bellisima, (or Bella, or Bell, or B), an elder millennial Nuyorican (Puerto Rican New Yorker) who lives in Long Island with my two kids, my husband and our pet goldfish, Orange. Most of my time is spent being a full-time parent to my 11 and 7 year old daughters who keep me busy and on my toes, always. I come from a very big and loud Puerto Rican family (I am one of 6) and love all things music, food and any reason to celebrate. I’ve taken these last few years off to be at home with my kids, but have begun the arduous return to work process which, in this economy, is not for the faint of heart. So my time is split between home and kids and writing and job hunting, while also arguing with my children about why now is not a good time for us to get a dog.”
We all wish you the best of luck on the job search!! And oh we do hope one day you can get the dog for the family 🐶 (as long as it’s not a hellhound😅). Speaking of which…just how did Bellisima stumble across Good Omens?
“I watched it sometime in late 2022/early 2023 after watching David’s run as the 10th doctor. I found his acting captivating and wanted to see more, and given I didn’t have a Britbox subscription, Good Omens was the easiest to start with. I like to say I came for the demons’s swagger but stayed for the angel’s bravery, finding myself more and more entranced by Aziraphale the longer the show went on. I liked Season 1 enough but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon some pretty incredible fan edits on TikTok in the lead up to Season 2 did the hyper fixation grip me. Looking back, it’s incredible to think that it was the fandom and fan creations that made me see the characters in a certain way and not the show itself (take from that what you will😉) but soon enough I was reading about secret messages in character playlists and rewatching scenes with newfound hope that what I was seeing was not simply subtext. And then Season 2 and the final15 happened and we all know what happened next.”
Oh yes - the FF was a catalyst for so many to create in this fandom😭 And the same is true for what ultimately inspired Bellisima to make the decision to write her own ineffable stories:
“I am not a writer. Well, I was not a writer; not the type who scribbled stories in notebooks from a young age (how adorable tho, I WISH) or got discouraged by an overly critical English teacher (f#ck all of them who ever discouraged anyone from creating art how dare you). I never wrote before 2023. Never felt compelled to write. I read a lot as a child but, as tends to happen to most children pulled into gifted and talented programs, lost the passion for it at some point in adolescence. It wasn’t until I joined the fandom and dipped my toes into reading fanfiction did I ever consider the possibility of doing it. Although I had always had an active imagination and a pretty relentless and puzzling mind that had a habit of wandering off into story-land whenever given a free moment. But honestly, I thought everyone did that.
After a friend of mine suggested we write a children’s novel together (she’d illustrate, I’d write. Nothing has yet come of this idea😂😂) did I think hmm maybe I should actually think about how one does this sorcery of words. So I took some online classes (waste of time, all they did was focus on plot and character traits) but realized if I didn’t actually write anything, I would never learn anything.
I think around that exact moment, as I scrolled through tumblr avoiding doing one adult responsibility or another, did I come across a heated meta about the final 15. I don’t remember the specifics but it was one flavor of how Aziraphale had been wrong, and as I perused the comments I noticed no one, not even the ones defending him, had the same perspective I did. Which I found baffling. So, instead of engaging with the discourse, I sat down, nestled into Aziraphale’s brain, and wrote out what I thought he was feeling six hours after he got into the elevator. Good practice!
I put it away for a few days but my imagination wouldn’t stop and I found myself thinking about Crowley at that same moment. So, a few days later, I sat down and wrote that. And then I put them together and that became the first chapter of Time Marches Forward, my first bit of story writing ever. I liked the idea of checking in on both of them as time moved on from the final 15 and towards the Second Coming, juxtaposing their journeys at matching moments. And then it grew and I added Adam’s POV and Jesus’ POV and soon it became a full Season 3 that will always be my Season 3.”
We are truly fortunate that our duo sparked your GO imagination and triggered your incredible writing skills! 🤩 As Bellisima also uncovered the joys of reading fanfiction during this time, one of our followers had this question:
✨✨Do you like to read the same kind of fiction that you write? Or are you drawn to works that are quite different from your own writing style?
“Since I write what I want to read, the answer is yes, but I do try to diversify my reading to include things outside of my personal preferences. I am also an atrociously slow reader, especially when I’m writing, so I read maybe four books a year?
And I absolutely do seek out different writing styles. I think this is THE most important part of reading for me and should be a goal for any aspiring writer. We all get into habits, writing patterns that we fall back on, and that’s great, but when we read works that carry those same patterns, they can become a lot more fixed in our muscle memory, making them difficult to spot. So different styles, even in the same genres, are important to keep your mind nimble and flexible; to look at a scene and see where and why it’s not working and adjust. Betas, the absolute angels they are, clearly can help with this also, but doing it on your own is so important.”
Such great advice! And speaking of Bellisima’s writing styles, inquiring minds wanted to know if there were any particular themes that she favored in her tales:
“When I sit back and look at my body of work (both in fan and original fiction), self-acceptance is probably the thread that ties them all together. All of the self, even the ugly parts that are inconvenient to the owner and everyone around them. I don’t like neat characters and I’m not a particularly romantic author. Now, that doesn’t mean my stories are not romantic (I think Faery Godfathers is deeply romantic), it just means I don’t take the easy road with messy characters. I like to show consequences, both inward and outward, and have characters face them. Coming to grips with who you are and what you want is terrifying, especially when it includes things others may look down upon.
In addition to that, all of my stories have some element of fantasy involved, either playing in the GO canon universe or a parallel Fae world or the fantasy world I’ve created in my own works, I adore world building, creating magical systems, and using fantastical characters and elements to broach very real and tangible themes in our world. Social justice, anti-racism, political reform, all of these are touched upon in my works in not so subtle ways. Even in the fantastical, I have a compulsive need for honesty and authenticity in my writing — both in the worlds and characters — so my stories follow characters as they fight for a better world, despite how personally flawed both they may be.
And not so much a theme but specifically to GO fic my absolutely favorite thing is taking side characters and really flushing them out. Anyone who’s read my pics knows to expect POVs from Adam, Pepper, Warlock and even RP Tyler. I even opened Faery Godfathers with a Greasy Johnson POV, which was SO much fun to write.
One of the things that my brain needs to stay interested in a story is novelty, with plot or characters, and our fandom is so flush with wonderful, incredible Aziraphale and Crowley perspectives that my brain literally feels as though I can’t possibly ADD anything new (which, I know is bollucks). But because these side characters are rarely touched in fanfic, it allows me to explore different framing and perspectives that keep my stories fresh. Adam Young as an adult is SUCH a rich character to explore (I know, I can feel the eye rolls from here), but trust me. If you don’t believe me, you just haven’t met mine yet.”
As Bellisima mentions, she has not only written fanfiction, but is also creating original stories for all of us to enjoy. Here’s another question from our readers:
✨✨Do you ever like playing with tropes in your original works, in addition to your fanfictions?
“I honestly think playing with tropes is unavoidable. They’re just conventions, expectations you can either meet or subvert in order to tell your story. I very much subversion, so my stories (original and fic) are full of the kind of set up in one direction to pay it off in another. For me, there is nothing more exciting than being surprised by a story or a piece of media, to look back at it again and remember who you were and what you thought the first time while seeing it differently the next. Sometimes it’s small shifts, sometimes they’re much bigger, but I do always try to provide some kind of realignment at the end of stories that make them really snap into place.
For Good Omens specifically, I never approached my Canon-verse stories with tropes in mind (those stories have to flow and can’t be held back for tropes purposes), but Faery Godfathers, my FTH 2025 fic, is chockfull of tropes. The ones I had most fun using were enemies to lovers (the most delicious trope of all, but when it’s REALLY enemies, not pretendy enemies), forced proximity (a VERY close second), only one bed (but they slept together on the couch instead bc… idiots), reverse omens (fully reverse. I had BAD Muriel before canon did) and fake dating (how do you take this ridiculous concept seriously!? I still don’t know but I tried very hard). While I did have fun working with these, it was so much harder than I thought. People who go into stories knowing what tropes they’re using and adhering to those expectations while also having it all work out amaze me. How do you do that!? HOW!? Teach me!”
How indeed!! 🤗 Since Bellisima has created works both in and out of fandom, we had to ask - is there a favorite among all of these stories?🤔
“This is such a hard question to answer! Firstly, my favorite work of my own is the original manuscript I just finished this week, and secondly, as far as fanfics go, I am going to have to cheat and pick two because they’re based on very different criteria. My favorite story is hands down The Last Angel, which is my canon-divergent AU in which Aziraphale and Crowley were never assigned to earth and hell won the war. Despite its complexity, that story was just such a joy to create. When I say it wrote itself, I am not lying — with barely an outline, just an ending I knew I wanted and pure grit. I remember writing the big action packed climax over the course of three days.12K words across 6 POVs that I had not planned out in advance written in 9 hours. Now that I’ve written three more works over 100k since this one, I KNOW how rare that is (I’ve not ruled out the possibility that I was possessed 😂), and I will forever love this story for that priceless experience of what it feels like when writing just works.
My other is Faery Godfathers. From a prose perspective, this is my strongest fic by far. It was a FTH fic for my beta, so for most of it, I had to edit it myself (I did have some wonderful help in there for a few chapters tho thank you beta angels) and it taught me a LOT about how to self-edit, how to focus on the flow of words and the rhythm. Before this, my focus was on clarity of plot and characters, this story was a bit slower and more romantic, so I could focus more on the “how I said things” and not just the “what was happening”. It was a tremendous amount of work and being a Fae/Fantasy AU, didn’t get the engagement my canon-verse stories did, but I think I learned most about myself and my writing style through this story.”
Good Omens gives us SOOO many rich characters to dive into. But of course, there’s always that favorite pairing which our writers are drawn to, right? 😇😈 Of course there is! And Bellisima’s answer may astonish you😮‼️
“I love Aziraphale and Crowley. Adore their banter and unwavering trust. Seeing a love story depicted with such deep respect was really what drew me to them. There is no wavering, there is no doubt. Even when arguing, there is always this underlying current of trust between them. But, shifts eyes side to side to see who’s watching, they’re not my favorite pairing to write.
Remember when I said my brain needed novelty to keep things fresh? And we have this tremendous fandom with tremendous authors who write tremendously beautiful and sexy stories about our ineffables? Hundreds of thousands of them? So while they’re fun and wonderful for me to write, the novelty is a little worn through and my brain likes to fight me on that, not delivering that dopamine hit you seek when writing.
Of all the romantic pairings I have written, my favorite is actually Adam/Warlock in Faery Godfathers. A true enemies to lovers, a true self-acceptance and stepping into a life true to yourself, theirs was a romance I did not plan to fall in love with as much as I did. There’s a lot of younger me in that story, a lot of that hopeful and desperate sense of loss and wanting to live a life that meant something while not simply adhering to others’ expectations, and having these characters actually be young (and not just act young) allowed me to work through that in a fresh and new way.
AND because I wrote theirs, I was able to write Aziraphale and Crowley in a fresher, more novel way in the end. I felt empowered to write Aziraphale and Crowley as the older, wiser, and more patient counters to Adam and Warlock’s more passionate impulsivity. Aziraphale and Crowley’s romance showed the wear and tear of a life lived, of loves lost and the burden of duty. I worried for a time that having two love stories in the same fic would result in them feeling too similar, but that was not the case at all and I’m very proud of how they both turned out.
Not exactly a PAIRING but my other favorite relationship is Adam/Pepper/Jesus which was a super fun and complicated polycule that beautifully mirrored the our side of Aziraphale and Crowley, but reimagined it to include humanity for the younger — dare I say more progressive — generation whose caring hands the world will be inherited into. Theirs was hard to balance with optimism and honesty, given all the complexity of dating the messiah and the antichrist and the jealousy that can brew there, but it was really wonderful to think through and work through with these characters. Adult Them, my beloveds.”
Such a wonderful perspective! And we are so happy that Bellisima brings these ideas to our world. Sharing your stories for others to consume can be daunting as well as thrilling, and one of our followers had this to ask:
✨✨What has surprised you the most about sharing your fics with others?
“Oh, so many things, but mostly the emotions, good and bad, that come with putting your heart and soul out there for others to pick up in their very limited free time. I wrote my first fic in relative anonymity. I was barely on Tumblr and didn’t even have an AO3 account until I started posting, which means all my comments and kudos on previous fics were guest comments. I had no community yet. So I expected NO engagement whatsoever and wrote simply for the thrill of creating something from start to finish. It was a unique joy that I think I’ve not been able to recapture in fanfic (but have in writing original fiction).
My second story got reblogged early on by some pretty influential blogs, and so that one got a lot of engagement (for me, at least), and that was SO joyous. Regular commenters along for the ride every chapter, screaming and theorizing in the comments section gave me life. And I was confident enough in the story (and, as I said, it really did write itself) that I didn’t get overwhelmed by expectations. I believed in that story and knew it would deliver that punch it needed to at the end.
Faery Godfathers got a very different reception. Around 2-3 comments per chapter? I think. Wonderful, beautiful return readers (you know who you are) who I will forever be grateful for because that story took so much work and honestly, without them, I don’t know if I could have done it (this is where I learned what the AO3 curse was and how powerful it could be). Because it hurt. How few readers from previous stories came back, how openly and enthusiastically people were reading others’ works and not touching mine. BUT I want to be clear, no one owes anyone their attention, especially not in the fic world where there’s always too much to read. But brain gremlins are real, self- doubt and pity are real, and when you can SEE it whenever you open AO3 or Tumblr, rec lists and screaming from others, it can be hard to not despair. And I’ll be honest, I did, a lot, during this one. It was a very humbling learning experience.
Engagement - that sexy statistics page on AO3 - is a seductive and fickle mistress. And when you’re like me and write stories that don’t fit neatly into the popular categories of fandom, it can be really difficult. But the whole point is to write the stories you want to write. Because the stories you want to write are exactly the ones that only YOU can write.
I wrote a 3k one shot in three hours that, within a matter of days, had more kudos than Godfathers, which is over 100k and took me five whole months to write. Is the one shot better? Definitely not; I barely edited the thing before tossing it up on ao3. It was just short, and scratched a fandom itch at the right time that allowed it to get some attention.
And that’s the biggest learning: sometimes it’s just luck. Sometimes it’s the right person reblogging at the right time. Sometimes it’s your interests and the fandom’s aligning to allow you to write what people want to read. But I know, for sure, that it very rarely is simply the quality of your work that defines its success. So no matter what, whatever you put forth should come from the heart, and nowhere else. Because writing is work; hard, vulnerable, and deeply personal work, and there’s no other reason to do it but for the love of the craft and the passion you hold for your characters and the stories they allow you to tell.”
While Bellisima is now focusing on original works, are there any other GO tales swirling around out there for her to share in the future?
“Sadly I don’t have any current GO WIPs in progress. I have an idea rattling around in my head for a conclusion to my In These Trying Times series that takes place 300 years after the events of The Last Angel, but I’m not sure if I can handle the emotional anguish that writing that would require. But the pull is getting stronger. So, stay tuned I guess.”

“Nope! I’m a woman of very few talents 🙂 I leave all that other stuff to the far more creative and brilliant fans who do it far better than I ever could.
[As for other fandoms], I have had many hyperfixations in my life (Star Trek TNG, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Breaking Bad, MCU in the Infinity Saga era) but no I have no interest in participating in other fandoms. I recognize how special the GO fandom is (even during the recent times of crisis), so I will continue to enjoy my media (when I have time) from my corner of the world in private.”
Good Omens has a stronghold on the hearts of so many - and we do hope it continues to thrive for a long time! 🫶🙌
As we wind down this week’s spotlight, Bellisima shares these words of encouragement for those who are looking to write their own works - both in fandom and beyond:
“The best advice I can give is to write what pulls you, regardless of whether or not people will read it. I have spent nearly three years writing GO fic, and very few of the people reading this will have read a word of it. But if writing is important to you (not popularity or engagement), then you HAVE to write what pulls you. It’s the only way you will be able to push yourself through the shitty parts to get to the end. It’s the only way you’re going to get better at your craft. It’s the only way you’re going to look at what you did at the end and, no matter what the engagement numbers are, be proud of what you made. Because, in the end that’s what matters.
Fandom is wonderful, but there can also be a sameness to it, at times. People gravitate towards the same tropes. They gravitate towards their head canons played out in fiction, and certain AU types and certain tropes. And sure, you can try to align what you write back to those and optimize against that, but it will suck out a lot of the joy of creation. I would argue that the most popular fics are the ones that define the tastes not align to them, and we are a mature fandom now with those classics long embroidered into our foundation. So, just write what pulls you. Write what makes your heart sing. Engage with others, find betas who enjoy the stories you write and ask for feedback, read other people’s stories and comment. Share! Reblog! Engage in the community not just for your own benefit but to bring up others! That’s what keeps fandom alive.”

As someone on the older side of young, my interest in Good Omens has always been somewhat unconventional in that it spans far beyond the fates of Aziraphale and Crowley, and even beyond the religious implications of the source material. My interest lies in the themes of resistance; of what it means to fight for something versus fight against someone; of nature versus nurture and who you would be if the circumstances surrounding your life were different, and what it takes to look yourself in the mirror and face the truth; of oppression and being oppressed; and, of course, free will and what it means to truly love something more than yourself. All of my stories deal with those themes.”

If you are a first-time reader of Bellisima’s work, or are looking for some recommended reads, here’s some suggestions from the author (and they ALL have a happy ending ☺️):
“If you want something short and sweet, I suggest An Antichrist and a Messiah Walk Into a Pub: part vision that came to me while doing dishes and part manifesting what I wanted to see in the finale, this silly (for me) one shot was written in a few hours and shows what a first meeting between the Son of God and the Son of Satan would look like. What would they discuss over fish and chips on the eve of the final judgement? It’s short and sweet and shows how I treat some of my favorite side characters in this sandbox.
If you want something a bit more meaty, then The Last Angel could work: big, bold and twisty, this is my most ambitious canon-divergent AU that explores the question: what would the world look like if Aziraphale and Crowley had not been assigned to earth. The short answer is: not good. Filled with love and heart and a decent helping of angst, this story spans six divergent POVs to take you on a ride that I hope you’ll not only enjoy but remember long after you’ve finished.
And if canon isn’t for you, then I would suggest Faery Godfathers: what I described as a trope smoothie, this one packs so much into (relatively) few words. A reverse omens, double enemies to lovers, fake relationship AU, in which Seelie Prince Adam and Unseelie Prince Warlock, as well as their respective Champions, Crowley and Aziraphale, find themselves battling generations of tradition, oppression, and prejudice to save their Courts and make the world one they can be proud to live in (thanks again @handyowlet for the clear and concise summary).”

If you are a first-time reader of Bellisima’s work, or are looking for some recommended reads, here’s some suggestions from the author (and they ALL have a happy ending ☺️):
“If you want something short and sweet, I suggest An Antichrist and a Messiah Walk Into a Pub: part vision that came to me while doing dishes and part manifesting what I wanted to see in the finale, this silly (for me) one shot was written in a few hours and shows what a first meeting between the Son of God and the Son of Satan would look like. What would they discuss over fish and chips on the eve of the final judgement? It’s short and sweet and shows how I treat some of my favorite side characters in this sandbox.
If you want something a bit more meaty, then The Last Angel could work: big, bold and twisty, this is my most ambitious canon-divergent AU that explores the question: what would the world look like if Aziraphale and Crowley had not been assigned to earth. The short answer is: not good. Filled with love and heart and a decent helping of angst, this story spans six divergent POVs to take you on a ride that I hope you’ll not only enjoy but remember long after you’ve finished.
And if canon isn’t for you, then I would suggest Faery Godfathers: what I described as a trope smoothie, this one packs so much into (relatively) few words. A reverse omens, double enemies to lovers, fake relationship AU, in which Seelie Prince Adam and Unseelie Prince Warlock, as well as their respective Champions, Crowley and Aziraphale, find themselves battling generations of tradition, oppression, and prejudice to save their Courts and make the world one they can be proud to live in (thanks again @handyowlet for the clear and concise summary).”

EstherMitchell_Author/Esther Mitchell (she/her) is a multiple award-nominated author of LGBTQ+ Romance who also enjoys creating wonderful tales for our Good Omens fandom. Her appetite for Sir Terry Pratchett’s work led to an ineffable discovery that opened up a new world for Esther to bring her ideas and creativity. Keep reading as we take a deeper look into Esther’s journey of crafting fantastical tales.
Let’s learn a little bit more about Esther and what she enjoys doing when not immersed in all the worlds she creates in her stories:
“I am located in the US Southwest, where I've lived for the past 22 years. Before that, I was in Pennsylvania (where my family's from) for a number of years, and I grew up a military brat, all over the world. Not writing? *blinks* I don't even know what that is! lol... I'm an author by trade, so I write pretty much all the time, whether free fanfic or my own original fiction novels. I love music, which I listen to while I write, and movies and TV shows (some of which I watch while I write, others of which I stop writing to watch). And when I'm not writing, I'm researching or editing. I used to love to travel, until my health got so bad I couldn't travel anymore. I've been housebound now since 2018, only leaving to go to medical appointments, so my writing is how I still travel. 🙂”
Writing and reading are such perfect ways to travel to many other realms!! And her love of books is exactly what led Esther to discover the ineffable world of Good Omens:
“This goes back decades. I've always been a voracious reader, and in the late 1980s, I developed an obsession with the Discworld. Between 1989 and 1993, I read every Discworld book I could get my hands on, and then re-read them again. And then, on one of my many, MANY trips to the library in search of reading material, I found, misplaced on the row of Terry Pratchett books (I say this, because it was labelled to be placed among the "G"s for... well, obvious reasons), a book I'd never seen before. I picked it up, saw Terry Pratchett's name, saw the name of an author I was vaguely aware wrote comic books, and thought, "wonder if this'll be any good." Thought I'd give it a go, so I plunked myself down in a reading chair, and started reading. And the rest, as they say, is history. I was hooked. But I didn't realize it made it past book status until 2020, when I was laid up in bed, recovering from cancer surgery, and I was searching through Amazon looking for something to distract me, since I was too weak to write. And on my screen popped this show titled "Good Omens" and I thought "It can't be!" But it was. And I binged the entire first season that day. And laughed so much I almost busted my stitches. I loved it so much! And it brought back all those feelings I'd experienced every time I've ever read the book. And then I went actively looking for other people who enjoyed it to talk to, and found the GO Fandom, and I've never looked back! It's been an amazing ride... right up until May 13, 2026. *sighs*”
Alas - the fandom is still roiling over the GO finale. But our duo will forever remain in our hearts and minds!! And speaking of a certain two beings, Esther reveals to us her ideal matches for her fanfics - as if it wasn’t already clear 😇😈:
“My favorite pairing is, obviously, Aziraphale and Crowley. That's predominantly who I write about in my GO fanfic. However, I do include other pairings, as well. Maggie and Nina, for one, as well as Newt and Anathema. And I have a couple of different OC pairings that show up, too. I'm also toying with maybe pairing some of the Them off with OCs, now that they're adults in my fics. Dunno if I'll actually do more than mention it in passing or not, though.”
Aziraphale and Crowley are quite the popular partners in the fanfic world - and many of the fans detect a bit of themselves in one or both of them. Which leads us to one of our follower’s questions for Esther:
✨✨Is there a particular character that you feel more connected to or identify most with? If so, what draws you to them the most?
“I'm definitely more Crowley-coded. Bit of a mischief maker, tend to not be a fan of institutional authority, and optimistic at the core, despite every reason not to be. (and yes, I know how ironic that last one sounds, in the face of S3).”
Oh, so many do feel that connection to one certain former demon! And while writing for these (or any) characters, Esther takes her own path when developing a story rather than leaning into the most common themes or tropes:
“Well, in both [fanfic and writing in general], I write LGBTQIA+ Romance. It is who I am. In fanfic, I tend to try to stay relatively close to canon (to a point... My GO fanfic is Book/S1/S2-compliant, but I refuse to comply with S3, especially since my work started before it, and I consider S3 an affront to good writing everywhere. However, if you mean what kinds of tropes do I like... I don't really think of my writing in those terms. I'm sure they probably fit somewhere in various ones, but I just write the stories that come to me, and don't really think about what kind of trope or theme they might fit.”
Given that Esther is a full-time author, one of our readers wanted to know more about her setup for getting those creative juices flowing:
✨✨What is your writing environment like? Meaning, do you like to listen to music while writing, or have background noise, or total silence?
“In a word, Chaos. lol My office is kind of a mess, right now, so I can't work in there (I closed down an online artisan business a couple of years ago, and I'm still in the process of getting rid of extra supplies and equipment still in there), so I'm relegated to working off my laptop in the main room, which I share with my roommate, so there's usually some kind of noise going on. Mostly, I put on noise-cancelling headphones and listen to music when I write, when working on fanfic. When working on my original fiction, it depends on which of my series I'm working on, it could be music, or it could be true crime shows/podcasts. 🙂”
Glad to hear that others have true crime shows as background noise 😅😁
And as for the time of day that lends itself to Esther’s best focus on writing?
“I'm a night owl, so mostly, I work at night and sleep during the day.”

As mentioned, Esther does not just write GO fanfic. She’s got a lot of other original works under her belt. Is there perhaps a favorite one among all of her stories?
“I'm not sure if you mean fanfic or original fiction, so I'm going to give you both.
My favorite fanfic is a GO fanfic novel called "Born of Starlight." It picks up right after the end of S2, and covers the Second Coming (as I see it) and beyond. I love it because it was just so much fun to write (so much fun, I'm currently working on a continuation called "Trust Fall"!), and because it healed a lot in me that was left broken and hurting at the end of S2. I call it my personal S3, and honestly, if I hadn't already had it, the "canon" S3 we got would have made me even angrier than it already did.
My favorite original work of fiction is an urban fantasy romance novel entitled "Sight Unseen" that takes place in a small, fictitious Western PA area known as Witch Hollow. It's centered around an independent forensic laboratory, and a series of brutal murders that've brought the most unusual investigator to town, tracking an ancient evil that's trying to escape its leash.”
Of course, we love what writers have already given to the fandoms, but we always want to know… is there anything else brewing for the future from Esther’s mind? 🤔
“I assume for this question you mean GO fanfics. And I do. Not so much a preview, because it's currently being built over on AO3, but if anyone wants to check out "Trust Fall" over there, they can find it and any other of my works under my name, EstherMitchell_Author (If you do plan to check out "Trust Fall" I highly recommend you start with "Born of Starlight" because Trust Fall is its sequel, and you might get lost without it). I'm also working on a shorter piece that's Second Coming related, from Warlock Dowling's POV. I can't share any of it here, right now, because the only parts I have done at the moment are huge spoilers.
At current, of the GO fanfic WIPs I have, there's "Trust Fall", and the Warlock one which I've titled "Through Mortal Eyes", and I have a historical novel-length one that bops through history with Aziraphale and Crowley, entitled "A Fragile Existence", and then two OC canon-adjacent stories. One follows the angel Lailah (introduced in "Born of Starlight") from when she's first sent to Earth to spy on Aziraphale in 1920, through to just a short time after the Second Coming. Her story will be titled "Earth Angel." The second follows a very unique demon, who started out human, then became an angel, and then was kidnapped by Hell and turned into a demon. His first appearance is upcoming in "Trust Fall." His story will be titled "Forsaken Son." For now, that's all the GO fanfic I have upcoming. I do have a fanfic for W13 I'm also working on, but that'll be a while, and of course I have TONS of original fiction WIPs I'm working on. lol”

Social media has its pitfalls so that’s totally acceptable to minimize time there. But love that she chooses to spend that time with the GO fandom 🥰🤗 Now curious minds want to know - does Esther have interests with any other fandoms?
“Fandoms? No. I did write a fanfic for Xena back in the 1990s, but I've never shared it anywhere. I also have a WIP in process for a W13 fanfic. I tend to stay out of fandom spaces for most of the things I like, because I don't enjoy having people attack me for how I view/feel about media. GO has been the exception. For the most part, it's been a positive experience, though I have encountered a couple of nasty people who've done/said horrible things, most of the fandom has been absolutely lovely.”
The GO fandom is truly one of the best places to be!! And as we near the end of our time with Esther, she shares these inspiring words for those who also wish to begin the writing journey:
“Keep writing. No matter what, keep writing. I know it's hard, and sometimes it can be disheartening, but just keep at it. And, as a personal word of wisdom: Don't let ANYONE tell you what you should be writing. And if a publisher or agent tries to tell you to make your writing fit a certain industry trend at the time, take it from me, and DON'T. That publisher/agent isn't for you, if they want to change your whole voice. I'm still living with the regret from decades ago, and letting someone else direct who THEY thought my characters should be.”

“I know that we've all been suffering since S3 came out. Those who loved it are confused why so many people hated it, and those who hated it feel betrayed and heartsick. There's a faultline in our Fandom that wasn't there, before. But I just want everyone to know we, as a fandom, can fill that faultline in with gold and make our fandom even stronger and more beautiful than before. We just have to love and respect each other, and remember, it's all in shades of gray. I personally despise S3, on so many levels. However, I can understand that some people loved it, and I can give them the grace to love it, and let them be happy with their love. Nothing I do or say at this point is going to change what Amazon released. It's done. So, I can just choose to ignore S3. I can likewise keep scrolling when I see that someone is waxing poetic about their love of it. I don't need to stop and comment with some negative note, and ruin their day and their enjoyment. That won't change anything, except to make another member of our GO family feel hurt and sad. We're better than that, fam. Likewise, if you loved S3, no one's stopping you. But you can just keep scrolling and let someone who's complaining or hating on it have their rant. You don't have to stop and call them stupid or other names and tell them how they're wrong for not loving it. And with these little acts of kindness and understanding, we gradually heal the fandom, and can slowly start to get to the point where we can reach for all the things about GO we can agree on, again.

BeccEEE/Becci Barnes (she/her) has been imagining and creating since she was very young, writing her first fiction as a preteen, and evolving into a true author upon her discovery of the Marvel fandom as a young adult. After giving in to temptation and diving into the Good Omens series, Becci immediately - and ineffably - fell in love with our two sillies and hasn’t looked back. Keep reading to learn more about what drives Becci to weave such lovely tales about our favorite ethereal beings.
We asked Becci for a “brief” glimpse into her life away from Good Omens 😁
“Brief? That’s a challenge, but I’ll try.
First things first: I am based in Northern Germany’s prettiest city - Hamburg ⚓
I consider myself a Person Of Many Hobbies. Writing and reading is, of course, up there, as you would expect. I’m playing and mastering DnD and similar games, too. It’s all about telling stories with me, it seems. I play the guitar, since I’ve figured out I’m not too stupid, just left-handed. And occasionally I dabble into other crafts like crochet and sewing.
A lot of my free time, though, I spend with various sports. I am a sprint/short distance triathlete and seasoned artistic roller skater, as well. Why fail at one sport, when you can suck at several!?”
That’s quite a lot of fun and adventurous hobbies! But wait until you hear about what Becci does for a living 😯
“Additionally, my day job is something lots of you have never heard of. I sometimes call myself “professional treasure hunter” which is the greatest euphemism to say: I’m searching for buried, unexploded bombs of World War II. Yes, really. No, I’m not defusing them. I hold a masters degree in geophysics and am therefore a specialist in detecting said UXOs with scientific surveys.
I’m also an expert in time management, because, let’s be real, all of the above wouldn’t be possible otherwise.”
That is incredible!! Searching for “treasure” sounds like a dream 😌 And quite true about time management - it is a difficult skill in and of itself!! So was all this real life activity part of Becci’s great inspiration to begin writing, or were there other factors at play?
“I wish I knew. I’ve been doing it for so long that I can’t remember what brought me to it in the first place. My sisters and I used to play with dolls, and playmobil figurines, and chalk on pavement - always making up our own stories. Later, I’ve spent hours over hours in sandbox games like Sims and Minecraft. It’s always been about creating stories for me, I think.
As for deciding to write for a fandom, I believe a big part of it is loving a fictional world so much I want to explore more of it. Not just consume, but actively dive into it, shape my experience of it and find new unearthed corners. What initially sparks my creativity the most, is the inherent feeling that there is “more” underneath the source. Either an untold romance, or a hidden friendship. Or maybe a What If. Sometimes it’s a cut that makes me feel like there is a missing scene, or an object that makes me wonder how it got there. That’s the reason why I tend to start with canon-compliant/canon-divergent stories first, when I enter a new fandom. Exploring (or sometimes creating) a deeper layer to the thing I fell in love with.”
Fandom can be so very inspiring, and it’s clear that Good Omens has been a great influence for many to begin creating. Becci tells us about how the world of our two ineffables came into her life:
“I have to thank my best friend for that. I’ve known them since middle school, they introduced me to Tumblr as well, and they were a David Tennant fan long before I was. They watched Good Omens first, came sliding into my DMs and basically BEGGED me to watch it. Which I did eventually. Can’t thank them enough for it. They’re responsible for at least half of my Good Omens fics (including my best works) and we often bounce headcanons, ideas or concepts around in our chat. They’re the only one I’m sharing my unfiltered, unpolished, first draft smut with and I gifted them a NSFW Patreon membership for their birthday. Try explaining that kind of relationship to a normal person, lmao.”
Yeah - that might be difficult to explain 😂 While we’re on the topic of ideas and concepts for fics, what are some of Becci’s favorite themes and tropes when creating tales for all the fandom readers?
“That’s a tough one. I like to think I am rather versatile in my writing. As long as I find a story I deem worthy to be told, I will write it, no matter the theme or trope. As stated above, I do gravitate towards canon-compliance or canon-divergence, if that counts as tropes?! Taking canon and then twisting it to my liking is the most fun to me, and also the one thing that sets Fanfiction apart from traditional book writing.
I have a knack for angst, and yet I don’t think you’ll find my portfolio to be very angst-heavy. I also take great enjoyment out of writing Porn with Plot. People clicking on my work for the smut and then getting emotionally wrecked is pretty fun :D”
That last most intriguing theme also aligns perfectly with Becci’s favorite written work of her own 😏:
“I have to say it’s my series “Not A One Night Stand” (NAONS for short). I love the concept so much and I put so much work into making and keeping it canon-compliant, yet smutty and satisfying. Every time I sit down to write a first draft, I surprise myself with how it all falls into place even better than I had anticipated. It gives me the chance to kind of rewrite the original, by filling in the missing bits. It is canon to me, and since the source material has nothing to contradict it, it can be your canon too ;)
With 6 stories and 47k words up to this point, it’s also one of the longest works I’ve published so far. And the final wc will top anything I’ve ever done. I’m a oneshot girly, usually, and longer works tend to get abandoned (so sorry). But I keep coming back to this no matter what and I even re-read it regularly.
If we transcend to other fandoms, When It Rains It Purrs gets an honorable mention, just because of Alpine the Cat :D”

✨✨Loving the "through the ages" series!! Are you mostly staying with the timelines we've seen, or are you inventing some new ones? And given that there's 14 mentioned in the title of the series - will there definitely be one from 1941 (my beloved era???)
“Thank you so much!! I have some very good news for you.
I am currently working on the first of three(!) stories set in 1941, and yes, we will entirely stay in the canon timeline. I will only invent the in-betweens we haven’t seen (but we know are there).
Actually, let me drop something else, while I have the chance: The title of the series isn’t accurate anymore. Since I started writing, I’ve found more. And that was even before s3 was released… So we’ll end up closer to 20-something parts. Which is insane, now that I think about it.”
Three 1941 stories?? Three smutty 1941 stories? SQUEEEEEE! 🤗And, Becci is even giving us an early preview of this as she tells us about her current works in progress:
“What counts as a WIP? :D
I have first drafts of the next 5 installments of my NAONS series, with one of it being in third revision right now. I have 2 oneshots that have been shelved at second revision with one being another fandom. I also have a full first draft of an original I frequently choose fanfic over. And then there is my “Plot Bunny” doc filled with a bazillion other ideas. Hot contenders for a next big project are a Model AU and an Alpha Centauri Runaway fic. But don’t get your hopes up… NAONS will keep me busy for the next 5 years I guess. So you can have a little preview of the next part, but keep in mind, that it’s not fully edited and polished just yet.”
Oh YES!!! We will take it! Here’s the preview from NAONS - 1941 style:
His knuckles on the wheel were white, the fire in his veins rushing in his ears. Even Aziraphale's words just barely reached him. He was likely still thanking him. Stupid him. Stupid angel. Why would he thank him for putting them both in danger?
“Crowley!” The softness in the exclamation made Crowley’s gaze dart over.
“I said forget it,” he replied to the millionth thanking that was only uttered in Aziraphale’s puppy eyes. Aziraphale’s expression didn't react to the harsh reply. Crowley’s bruskness seemed to just slide off his casing of soft politeness.
Crowley looked away again, focussed on the tacho and hurled them around the debris of a corner building.
“What if I don’t want to forget?” Aziraphale asked and Crowley heard the shifting in his seat next to him. He gripped the steering wheel harder and remained silent. “You did so much… for me tonight.” Crowley heard the omitted “good” clearly. “I want to give you something in return.” His voice had taken on a sweet undertone Crowley knew. It caused little sparks in his veins.
“Don’t,” he said and sped through a roundabout. Aziraphale sighed but didn’t press on. For at least 10 seconds.
“Now what if,” he started again, “What if there is something I want to try, and I need your help with.”
Crowley’s foot on the throttle lifted ever so slightly and they fell just below 90mph. Aziraphale had to register that minuscule acknowledgement of his words because he continued to elaborate. “It’s a matter I need a trusted confidante for and no one would be better suited than you.”

“Aziracrow all the way. I like Nina/Maggie, but Crowley and Aziraphale get my full attention. Nothing else has clicked with me the way they have. I can’t explain why… maybe it’s the whole “opposites attract”-deal they have going on, or their “black and white turning into shades of grey”. I’ve always loved flawed and morally grey characters and they just fit this mold perfectly.”
That they are, too!! 🥹 Since we are talking about our beloved duo, let’s hear from another follower who had this question for Becci:
✨✨Do you have a preference for writing either Aziraphale's or Crowley's POV? Why/Why not?
“I am leaning towards Crowley, because I love him snarky and sarcastic while being internally emotional and I think I can channel that well :D But I will not hesitate to switch POVs based on what the story needs more, or what I find more interesting in that specific situation. Sometimes it’s fun to have the reader know the POVs thoughts, sometimes it’s even more fun to have them guessing alongside the POV. I think I’m quite good at writing either by now, so not really a strong preference. But if I had to choose, it would probably be Crowley.”
You definitely write them well, Becci!! Outside of writing all these wonderful stories, does she have any other hidden talents that she shares with our fandom?
“No. Once - in a very brave moment - I shared a song, and I will not elaborate. I have very little time for fandom and I’ve decided to use that time entirely for writing and honing that one craft instead of trying to become a better artist or video cutter, too. (Kinda weird to think like that that about different disciplines of art but then go ahead and do 3 sports in a row…) I love looking at other forms of fandom art, especially fanart and fan comics, and I often think “man, that would be so cool, where can i learn?” But I’ve decided it’s not for me. I’m putting my energy into developing my writing and I hope it pays off.”
Fair enough - there are so many talented creators to support and you are high among them with your work!!! And Becci is not just a GO fanatic, as she tells us about other loves in the fandom world:
“Marvel still has my heart. It’s what made me a writer, and with so many characters I like and pairings I ship, I can find something in there for each and every Idea I might have.
I’ve also grown up with Harry Potter and I can’t shake my emotional attachment. Recently, I’ve discovered why everyone is so into the Marauders. While I’ve not (yet) written anything in that direction, I’ve been reading and loving it, and the fic inspo doc is filling up faster than is healthy.
There are a couple of fandom flings, too. Like Dead Boy Detectives, Our Flag Means Death, BBC Sherlock… probably Heated Rivalry too, if I finally get around to watching it lol.
There are also some fandoms that I love, but haven’t really interacted with yet. Six of Crows and The Hunger Games are among those.”

anna_sun/Clo (she/her) is a prolific writer for the Good Omens fandom, having more than 40 works posted (and more to come). She started writing at an early age, but after a short break, the creativity was retriggered courtesy of two ethereal beings who graced our screens and never let go of Clo’s heart. Keep reading to learn more about what inspires all of Clo’s charming creations.
Clo shares a little bit about her life outside of Good Omens - plus she gives us some insight to her online handle (for those who may be curious):
“Hello hello hello! My name’s Chloé (or Clo) and I was born and raised in Québec, Canada, which is where I still reside. I’m currently renting a house with my best friend on the south shore of Montréal. But if my name's Chloé, why "anna_sun"? Well, Anna Sun by Walk the Moon was my favorite song at the time I made my AO3 account (in 2014. Yes, I was fifteen. No, we won’t talk about that). But “Anna Sun” is a favorite in my playlist to this day.
I work at a college library (not a librarian, just plain admin support, lol) and I really love it. I’m not sure what I want to do career-wise, but I might get my Master’s in English Lit or Information Science in the near future. TBD.
My hobbies and interests have been closely related to fandom ever since I was a teen. AKA, a whole lot of reading and writing and shipping. Other than that, I mean… I taught myself how to ride a skateboard a few years ago, had a fall, twisted my ankle, and never picked up a skateboard again. That pretty much sums up who I am as a person. I’m not very athletic or adventurous or anything, but I do love a nice hike or a short camping trip (emphasis on short, LOL).”
Glad you are OK after the fall! 😌 But super happy about all the fandom focus! 🥳 Which brings us to the next question - how exactly did Clo find out about our beloved ineffables?
“I think Prime just suggested it on my home page??? It’s all a bit of a blur. I was looking for something to watch and thought “huh, this looks like fun.” And INDEED, it was! I never even knew it existed before. It opened up a WHOLE new world. Even got me to start watching Doctor Who right after, because of course I immediately needed more DT in my life.
S2 had been out for a while already when I started watching, but I had no clue about the Final Fifteen. And I wrote my first fic for GO before I even finished my first watch, LOL. Can you imagine my fucking delight (and simultaneous heartbreak) when I realized they were PROPER canon? Ahhhhhhhhh!!
AND finding GO got me out of my 8-year hiatus. I hadn’t written a (creative) thing in forever. I’m very grateful for it.”
It is incredible how Good Omens (and of course, Mr. Tennant) brought the spark of creativity to many of its fans!! And Clo had a few other influences that fueled her imagination 😋:
“Honestly, probably hormones LMAO, but also mainly “for shits and giggles.” I was writing stories long before I started posting them online, just for me and some of my closest friends.
It wasn’t always smut but I’ve been reading smut for a looooong time, so I eventually moved on to writing my own stuff. Write the smut you want to see in the world. You get it, wink wink. (For instance, I have one B99 fic where I literally say in my Author’s Note: “I read all of the porn in the Jake/Amy tag and I wanted more so I decided to write some lmao.”)
But I’ve also written a few poetic-ish pieces I’m very proud of. I swear I’m not JUST a horndog. And, no matter what, there will ALWAYS be fluff. ALWAYS.”
Fluff is the stuff of life (and smut - we need that too 😏😂) On that note, Clo describes a few of her favorite writing tropes that she weaves into her stories:
“Porn with Feelings is an obvious one. Mostly it’s because I like to write about intimacy. I think there’s a huge difference between a kink fic just for the sake of kink, and a smut fic that dives deep into the characters’ thoughts/feelings. Both types serve their purpose, of course, but the latter is truly my personal favorite. Some of the best smut I’ve ever read has made me CRY because it was so beautifully intimate, and I love that.
I like humor, especially a slightly ridiculous premise that lends itself to a fun time for both me and my readers.
Not exactly Love at First Sight but I do LOVE a good fast pace, dizzying romance, especially for Human AUs. Getting Together fics that end with the blooming stage of the characters’ love story.
As for big, overarching themes? Self love and self worth. Getting over insecurities. Honesty and communication. You won’t find a lot of misunderstandings causing conflicts in my work—everything always gets resolved pretty quickly.”

Aziraphale is a pretty forest nymph. Crowley is a hunter who catches him bathing. Basically Strangers to Friends to Lovers.
This will always be the one that stands out for me. It’s not my most popular, and it wasn’t even beta’ed so it would probably benefit from some editing, but it was a real labor of love. Maybe that’s why it’s my favorite. I had such a clear vision of how I wanted the story to FEEL, and I’m very happy with the result. It’s beautiful, it’s emotional, it’s hot. It’s got it all.”

“I basically only have eyes for Aziraphale and Crowley. Sorry not sorry. But I have a good mix of AUs and Canon stuff, although I'm slowly starting to write more AUs than anything else.
When I include other pairings in my works, they are background more than anything. I do have a soft spot for Muriel/Eric but I don’t think I’d ever write it.”
Muriel and Eric are too adorable!! 🥰 And we’re sure you would do fine if you ever decide to write for them!! But of course, many of us do LOVE our Ineffable Duo. One of our followers wanted to understand more about Clo’s writing of their characters:
✨✨Across the range of your own fics, what do you feel are the core qualities to your Crowleys and Aziraphales that ensures them of feeling in-character in your works?
“That’s such a great question!!
Aziraphale is always a bit of a bastard, because that’s how I know and love him to be. He keeps Crowley on his toes. He often has underlying insecurities, but I like him to be overall confident. He’s witty, a bit smug, but ultimately, he’s soft and kindhearted.
My Crowley is… often flustered, and always smitten with Aziraphale. I love him when he’s grumpy in a likeable way, but also when he’s a shameless flirt. He’s the type to make a crass joke and bark a laugh, but also the type to say something incredibly fucking sweet out of the nowhere. He’s a cuddler. He’s a menace. And he’s hilarious.
But, honestly, it’s not always about who they are individually for me, but mainly about their dynamic. That’s what makes them recognizable. Their back-and-forth, their longing, their love.”
We LOVE how much love they have for each other!!! And Clo is not running short on ideas for them anytime soon. We asked her if she had any more works in progress…
“ooooooooooo boi, yes!
I mean, I’m not the type to juggle multiple WIPs. I used to write, post, write, post… because all I wrote were one shots. It’s when I started writing longer works, with chapters, that the WIPs really started to add up.
I currently have 3 big WIPs. One’s an angsty longfic (very unusual for me, and will take forever to write), one’s a Childhood Friends to Lovers story, and the last one is an AU heavily inspired by Ella Enchanted.”

“My, my.” Aziraphale licked his lips, savouring the sight of Crowley’s blush darkening the highest points of his cheeks. The blush could have meant a few different things, but the evening had been so pleasant so far, so filled with good conversation and laughter, the energy between them so magnetic, that Aziraphale felt bolder than usual. “I didn’t think the prince could be so easily flustered.”
[...]
“Flustered? Me? M’not flustered.” Crowley said, only stuttering a little. “I’m just…”
“Distracted. Right.” Aziraphale giggled, shaking his head in amusement. “And tired as well, I suppose?”
“Yep. Bit drunk, too. So that explains that, doesn’t it?”
“Mmh. Of course.”
How strangely entertaining, to blatantly lie to one another and pretend to accept these lies as truths. How bizarrely exciting, to flirt between the lines of what is being said, knowing that what mattered weren’t the words themselves but the way they were said. Crowley asserting that he was not flustered was the last thing he should’ve said if he wanted Aziraphale to believe him. And Aziraphale saying of course with a proud, cheeky smile was the best way to react if he wanted to make sure Crowley knew he did not, in fact, believe him.
“Right, well, s’pr’bly time for bed, huh?” Crowley grumbled after a while of silence, wobbly on his legs when he stood up. It made Aziraphale jump up to help him find his balance, holding him by the shoulders in a steadying grip. He tried not to let his thumb wander with a mind of his own, he really did—he tried hard not to seek the soft skin visible above Crowley’s collarbone—but before he knew it he was making contact, and his heart promptly skipped a few beats.
The earth might also have stopped spinning, or maybe time itself came to a halt—as if the entire universe was holding its breath, waiting to see what was going to happen now.
But nothing happened. Nothing except for shy smiles, panicked blinking, and a few stifled, measured breaths.”
*swoon* This sounds sooo good!! 😍 With all these stories that Clo shares, are there any other hidden talents that she gives back to the fandom?
“Nope, I’m a certified one trick pony. I do get ideas for fanvids sometimes but never bother trying to execute them. They just play randomly in my head when I’m listening to music.”
It’s so very true as many (or all) of us know - EVERY SONG we hear now is about them!!!! That’s all a part of becoming ineffably obsessed! But as much as we hyperfixate on GO, inquiring minds are curious if there are other fandoms that Clo might be interested in:
“At the moment? Not really. I’m fully focused on GO.
But the last fandom I was REALLY into was Black Sails. I can’t recommend that show enough. It doesn’t have the whimsical aspects of GO, but as far as queer love stories go, it takes the cake for me (and yes, CANON queer characterS, PLURAL). 4 seasons of great writing and many, many, many characters to root for. Good balance of plot elements, of twists, of romance, and of character growth. It’s so good! In fact I’m thinking of rewatching it soon.”
Black Sails is right up any pirate-lovers street!!
As we wrap up this lovely interview with Clo, she leaves us with some phenomenal and helpful words for all those who might give in to the temptation and have a go at writing their own tales🤗 :
“The obvious: Keep writing. And write the things you want to read. Do it for FUN. It’s hard not to care about stats but it’s useless to focus on them. If you’re not having fun, what’s the point?
For aspiring authors: Start small. Come up with a simple premise, one setting, one scene. A conversation, a confession, a first kiss, whatever. Find the details you want to focus on as you imagine the scene unfolding. Make it neat. And don’t forget to be proud of it.
I also think fanfics are such a great starting point for authors. The characters are there, the dynamic is established. You can easily pick a scene from canon and build on it. I wrote my first GO fic immediately after watching that “shades of grey” conversation in S2. I had ideas for how the scene could’ve gone and they simply demanded to be written!
Finally, for anyone: Be open to finding inspiration anywhere. My ideas usually come to me in the form of a single line of dialogue, or a random line of prose. “No Food in the Library” is literally a poster on the wall where I work. I started writing “A Time and a Place” with a single thought in mind: Crowley wanks in the back office of the bookshop because he’s sexually frustrated… and everything else flowed from there. “Experiments in Kissing” was inspired by my own experiences, and mostly because I thought: Wouldn’t it be fun for them to start making out whenever they’re bored, just because? These three fics are some of my favorite fics I’ve ever written. They did not require ten hours of brainstorming and outlining. I was just having pure, honest fun.”

Serenity_Black (she/any) has been writing fanfiction since she was very young, but fell into a dry spell from creating for a while. Then after finding a pair of lovable ethereal beings, Serenity_Black’s love of writing was reignited, further strengthened by an ineffable fandom who welcomed her in and brought incredible encouragement. Serenity_Black has some major upcoming plans in her personal life, but always manages to find time for many other activities when not writing about Good Omens:
“I'm currently in America in Kansas, but will be moving to the East Coast later this year. I'm eyeing the UK for a future move though cause I've always wanted to explore other countries. When I'm not writing I do art, game, stream on TikTok, or I work lol. I'm a pretty simple person who spends most of her free time online with her friends.”
The Good Omens series has been available to view over the last several years, but Serenity_Black didn’t latch on to it immediately…for reasons 😁
“I was aware of Good Omens through ads I saw on Amazon. It 100% looked like something I could enjoy and obsess over. However, I didn't have time for another hyperfixation so I intentionally avoided it! XD When season two dropped I was in a better space and was like 'Sure, I have time!' And I watched the first episode, then the 2nd...then the 3rd and next thing I knew it was 6am and S1 was done xD I've been obsessed ever since!”
This show has SUCH a pull once you dive in - and for Serenity_Black, it did more than just generate a place in her heart for a certain angel and demon:
“Good Omens [was my inspiration to create]. I hadn't been able to write anything, let alone Fanfiction, in 10 years and as soon as the final 15 ended I sat there with all these theories and needed an outlet. I ordered a Bluetooth keyboard from Amazon 3 days later because I was running out of paper. Bought a whiteboard and got to work xD”

Now as you may or may not know, not all of Serenity_Black’s stories are for the faint of heart, as she describes some of her preferred writing themes:
“>.>...<.<... I write smut, angst, whump, and very dark themes. One tag I use a lot is Dead Dove, because when I put a tag I mean that tag and I need people to take them seriously for their own sake. Tags I put aren't just touched on, it's explored in unapologetic detail and I want readers to know that.”

✨✨What have you found that has been the biggest challenge for you about writing GO fic?
“Staying true to the tone of the books. Sometimes I just throw that out the window and write, other times I try to keep that comedy and tone like I did with 'Of Gardens'. But when I want to keep the tone it can be difficult for me because of the subjects I'm used to writing.”

✨✨What's the project you are most excited to be working on at the moment?
“I want to get back to a fic idea I had of a darker ending to Season 3 where Crowley and Aziraphale end up in Hell thinking the other betrayed them. Not much more than an outline is currently written…”
But Serenity_Black is honoring us by sharing what bits of this post S3 WIP that have been written so far (at least Aziraphale’s POV):
“Aziraphale sat at his Heavenly desk, surrounded by Holy Memos and instructions on the End of Days. He looked haggard, the stubble he’d been fighting had won and his beard was now full and overgrown. His normally short and wispy hair had grown out and started to spiral in on itself creating his own halo of curls. His head was currently resting defeatedly in his hands as he tried to calm himself down.
He had tried everything, everything he could think of over the last year to stop The Second Coming. He had to sit back and face the facts: whether he wanted it to or not, the end of the world was happening in less than a year.
The angel leaned back in his uncomfortable chair wishing, not for the first time, that it was the plush comfy one in his shop. He let out a frustrated sigh.
What am I even doing here? This was a mistake…Crowley was right, Heaven won't change and I’ve been a fool to think it could…
Crowley.
His mind stuck on the name as a pang of longing resonated through him. It had been a year since he’d seen him in person, heard his voice. He’d of course used the globe to peak in on him every once and a while. ‘To make sure he wasn’t causing any trouble’ he’d told himself. He didn't seem to be faring much better than himself. A fact that gave him no satisfaction as he was sure it was his continued absence that had the demon in a constant sour mood.
The other angels had made the time crawl slowly by. They insulted him at every turn, Supreme Archangel or not, and were resistant to even the smallest suggestions. Aziraphale found himself in a petty mood, one that he couldn’t even find it in himself to be ashamed of. He’d had enough of them and their snide remarks behind his back and to his face. He knew they didn’t respect him, they didn’t even like him and at this point the feeling was far past mutual.
His preoccupation was interrupted as Michael slammed a stack of texts onto his desk, knocking some important scrolls to the floor where they rolled away into the ethereally bright halls. Far from startled, Aziraphale opened his eyes slowly and cast a side-long look at the other angel from where he lounged. He’d had just about enough of this and it was about time they knew it.
”I can assure you that I have plenty to do already, Michael.” His voice was low and dangerous, his displeasure on full display with no pretenses took the other angel aback. He sat up slowly looking after the rouge scrolls and back to Michael. “I’m going to need those back. Now.”
Michael blinked, uncertainty and surprise written all over their ageless countenance as they slowly raised their arm and snapped. The scrolls, now miracled back, sat next to the new texts now taking up much needed space on the small desk.
“Thank you,” Aziraphale said cooly, no gratitude behind the words. Michael looked like they wanted to say something and Aziraphale’s eyes narrowed. “What now Michael? Did you forget to insult me to my face today? Because, frankly, after the year I’ve had I can tell you I am rather done with the abuse from the rest of you.”
The other angel's mouth was open, jaw nearly on the floor at being spoken to this way. Yes, Aziraphale had been known to say the off-hand petty thing, but he hadn’t yet been outright rude to them like this before. It seemed to them that the Supreme Archangel had finally snapped.
”It’s just that the Metatron wants these looked through for anything that can accelerate the timeline.” Michael replied flatly, trying not to show that Aziraphale’s tone had gotten under their skin.
Aziraphale, having just made a decision, stood up and straightened his pale waistcoat, brushing off some imaginary dust and turning away from the other. “Then you do it Michael, I’m going out.”
”Going out? Where? There’s work to be done!” Michael seethed, whatever this new attitude was they weren’t having it.
”Where I go is none of your concern,” Aziraphale retorted vehemently. “As for the work….” He turned back to the other angel momentarily, “I am delegating the task to you in my absence. I trust that won't be an issue.”
He didn’t wait around for a reply, he simply walked away from his desk in the direction of the elevator to SoHo leaving a seething Michael in his wake. "

“Let your mind wander to weird places and then write it down! You don't have to share it with anyone, but exercise your imagination! Give someone a hair and ears! Or make them a sea creature! Imagine what their life would be like if they lived nearby a volcano! Go crazy with it! Just explore and write. That's the important bit.”

LavenderMoonlitSkies/Grace (she/her) is one of the newer writers to the Good Omens world, courtesy of two very popular ineffables. A chance discovery fully inspired her to begin weaving her own tales, spurred even more by the support and encouragement from this wonderful fandom. Keep reading as Grace guides us through her creative journey.
Let’s learn a little bit more about Grace - where’s she’s from and what she enjoys (of course, when she’s not dreaming about a certain duo😌🥹):
“I live in the States! When I’m not writing, I’m a musician and a big fan of live music wherever I can find it. I’m also a morris dancer and if anyone knows what that is I would love to gab with you about it lol”

Like many other fans of Good Omens, it was a little curiosity that led Grace to finding this incredible series 🧐🤔:
“I stumbled across it randomly on Amazon Prime a couple months before the season 2 premiere, not terribly interesting but it did alter my brain chemistry~”
This series certainly does have that impact!! 😍 And once the magic that is the Ineffable Duo is unleashed, writing just seems to come naturally in this fandom, as Grace discovered:
“The season 2 finale basically sent me into a frenzy. I think I’ve always kind of thought about writing stories but it never occurred to me to actually *do it* until I was introduced to such captivating characters in a fictional universe with endless possibilities”
We are so happy that it did inspire you!! 😊 Of course, each writer has their own style and preferred themes. Grace’s preferences are particularly relevant to our fandom given the eternal nature of the ineffable world:
“I need a happy ending for sure, but I also love historical settings of pretty much any kind (Ancient Rome, Victorian era, Medieval, I’ll take anything lol)”
Happy endings are the absolute best for these two!! While Grace has a handful of smaller works already published, she does have one story that has been in progress for a while, and she graciously gives us a glimpse of what is coming up next:
“I have a myriad of abandoned one-shots that may or may not ever see the light of day, but my longfic is still going strong! It won’t be completed in time for the canon finale, but I’m hoping to finish it up over the summer."
Here’s a sneak peek from Chapter 7 of The Road Less Traveled (rated M):
“Somewhere in the vastness of an ever expanding universe, on a little blue planet where a comparatively tiny city placed somewhere along its surface was just starting to wake up, an angel slept. He slept for the first time in his entire life, cozily curled up in woolen blankets and beside a lover that had been watching him sleep peacefully for the last hour or so since he awoke himself.
Crowley studied him thoroughly; the way his chest would slowly rise and fall with every delicate breath he took. He showed no signs of distress, perhaps there was even a slight smile grazing the corners of his mouth. It was a relief, really. Crowley didn't know if angels dreamt, but he'd wondered if, after everything that night, Aziraphale might fall deep into the pits of an awful nightmare as soon as he was unconscious enough.
The rising sun cast a heavenly glow over him. His hand was resting between them, perfectly manicured and limp against the bed sheet. Crowley remembered what it felt like to touch them, to finally feel them against his chest as Aziraphale held him close the night before and embraced the love they'd both been denying themselves for centuries.“

Of all of the stories that Grace has created (as well as those being considered), she considers one of her earliest pieces to be a particular favorite🤗:
“In terms of completed works, I would say Find Me In Your Dreams, My Dear. It’s part 1 of a series I did almost 2 years ago. I think if I wrote that series now, it would be completely different and more well-rounded, maybe longer too, but concept-wise I had a lot of fun with it!”
And at this point, if there was still ANY doubt who Grace’s favorite pairing might be…😇😈
“Aziracrow ofc, though I do love a little Nina/Maggie on the side 😌💅”

“Nope. Been thinking about getting back into art but I’m so bad with technology it’s gonna have to be on paper (i.e. I cannot ~digital art~)”
Art is a fantastic contribution to consider 🎨 any form will be greatly appreciated And while Grace is thoroughly smitten with Good Omens, she does have some appreciation and affection for a few other realms:
“I haven’t ventured much into the fics for other fandoms but I love a lot of shows like What We Do In The Shadows (we don’t need to talk about that finale), Our Flag Means Death, Hazbin Hotel, Supernatural, etc!”

“Thank you! I’m gonna be so real with you though I created it with the help of one of those random username generators (not AI… would not touch that with a 10 ft pole). I was kinda just thinking I love the night sky and outer space in general, and that purple is the superior color ofc
I suppose if I were to really think about it, I would say that the moon symbolizes lots of intriguing ideas like change, femininity and the unconscious mind, and lavenders are kind of a cornerstone symbol for queer women in culture and I am a queer woman”

“Just do it man. Don’t listen to that little judgy voice in the back of your head, your work may not be up to your standards at first but that’s only because you have to keep at it to get better. Hone your craft ✌️”
