steve: *is pretty* everyone: (✿ ♥‿♥)
@capitainrogers I wholeheartedly agree! I think a lot of people/casual fans might forget that Steve’s post-serum body is something radically new for him. He was 23 years old when he got the serum. He was what, 39 during Endgame? Before he was viciously character-assassinated went back in time, he had lived longer without the serum than he did with it. He grew up as a small, disabled man in a time when eugenics and the goal of breeding “fitter” people was at its peak. Eugenicists targeted minorities, the poor, and the disabled; the movement eventually led to the forced sterilization of more than 60,000 people in the United States.
So you can be sure that Steve was used to people looking down on him and thinking he shouldn’t even be allowed to exist. Not only was he physically unfit, he was the son of two poor Irish Catholic immigrants, raised by a single mother. (Marcus and McFeely even implied that nobody desired him sexually before the serum, thinking he finally found the opportunity to lose his virginity during his USO tour, LOL!) Steve himself, I think, doesn’t feel that he is a “real man” if he is not allowed to participate in the war as a soldier, as other men were called to do. And who could blame him for feeling this way?
Even after he gets the serum, some people still felt he had nothing valuable to contribute to the war effort (judging him based on his pre-serum appearance)– Chester Phillips wanted to put Steve in a laboratory, and Steve only got out of it by becoming a senator’s dancing monkey.
So I think that people coming up to Steve and fawning over him, while amusing to watch, would not be amusing for Steve himself. Having grown up being loathed by his contemporaries and beaten up in various alleys, suddenly being loved and desired by every stranger (including those who would have spit in his face pre-serum) primarily because of his change in appearance would not have felt good. If anything, I think it would have made Steve feel more inferior. As someone who values honesty in his interactions, the fakeness of it all would get old for him real quick.
Even Peggy looks at him differently pre- and post-serum. I’m seeing perhaps polite, amused interest here when they talk in the car…
…versus shocked and flustered desire here, where she also touches him without permission.
You know the one person who never looked at Steve like he was garbage, a piece of meat, or someone to put on a pedestal?
Who was immensely popular with women and yet paid more attention to Steve than he did his actual date, on his last night before going to war?
Who offered Steve a home when he had nothing left?
Whose response to seeing Steve for the first time after the serum was not triumph or desire, but disbelieving elation?
Who was the only person who was not happy about the serum, because now Steve would know the full horrors of war for himself, no longer safe at home in Brooklyn?
Whose teasing Steve not only welcomes, but reciprocates?
I do think there was only one person in Steve’s life who loved him unconditionally before and after the serum, who saw him as Steve Rogers no matter what he looked like. Who swore to follow him to the jaws of death, and kept his promise.

👇 DARK AGE MAINLY PLOT/ SPOILERS BELOW
Facts about Darrow's Bellona:
1) Mustang says that " ... he was spared from execution by one of Romulus’s sons..." Guess who? Why he did this? Dido is giving me some hope in the Rim.
2) She also says that " ... After delivering the news to Kavax, he offered his service to the Republic...". I've no doubt that Cassi forgived Kavax for his father dead. Also, he took the Republic side on the war. He adviced that the Rim was coming AND OFFERED HIS SERVICE TO REPUBLIC. It's prove enough of what side Cassius choosed. Is also a prove that he went away to protect that ungrateful Moon Boy (I wish Lysander could met Sevro. Just saying 🙊 Let him show you what mercy is).
3) Cassius is also a guy who passed through a hell and is wise and righteous still. The man has a really precious heart. And he goes to "... the heart of the enemy for ... with only a small strike team ..." to save Darrow. Any suspicious about Cassius/Darrow friendship is done, is over! He made very clear his pov for the war and Darrow. And, what the hell, he's the guy who saves the day. AGAIN!
4) He also makes very clear that his brainly skills as a former knight are working and very well, because he's the one to advice that Luna would make the bridge to the fall of Earth. Yes my love, stop saying that Cassius is an alcoholic and just a pretty face, please. He's much more than that AND he's throwing it right in our faces. AGAIN.
Dark Age Dark Age
ok so I finished Dark Age today and wanted to give me thoughts. Lemme tell you, I had miiiiixed fuckin feelings. Spoilers below the line
Keep reading
- I agree about the darkness of this book, it was a lot for me too. I think Brown might have gone a little overboard. He also started to lose me with a lot of the military jargon, I’m on my second read and I think I’m going to need the audio version to truly get everything going on in Part 1.
-This book has so much going on that by the time I got to the end I’d forgotten some important stuff from the beginning. I finished the book and though wait—where the heck is Tongueless?
-I think readers are supposed to start getting the feeling that no one is a good guy or a bad guy anymore—everyone is just trying to survive and see their hopes for their world put into place. Which is a decent theme, but we’ve been conditioned to root for one side already, and when all is said and done our favorites are the good guys who are compromising a bit for the good of their people.
-As much as I hate Lysander, his ‘relationship’ with Atalanta is freaking me out. I can’t see a good ending for Lysander at this point, I’m any way shape or form.
-Cassius is my favorite, I’m so glad to have him back and I hope he plays a bigger role in book 6. I’m interested to see his thoughts on Lysander, dare we hope for a Cassius point of view in the next book?
-I kind of want Cassius to make a connection with Pax??? He clearly tried to do right by Lysander, and as much as Darrow struggles with Pax I feel like this might be a strong suit of Cassius’s.
-I loved Mustang’s parts, they stand out as the best in the book. I could have done without the clone as well, but on my second read the differences between the Jackel and the clone are more noticeable. I love the mob as a conflict for her though. I wish Daxo hadn’t died, I still miss the first Pax.
-I’m so sad for Victra and Sevro.
-I liked Lyria better in Dark Age, but I think that’s because Victra was with her.
-Ephraim’s parts still stuck out as fairly slow for me, I just didn’t care that much about Obsidians. I love Pax though.
Overall, I can’t keep track of who’s dead and who’s alive anymore tbh. I was a bit numb to it by the end of the book. The three that hit me the hardest were Alexander, Daxo, and Ulysses. I really hope that everyone’s been killed off now so that our favorites can survive book 6. I think it was incredibly well written, if stretched bit thin. It’s going to take several reads and discussion to fully comprehend, but there’s going to be a long wait for book 6 so there’s plenty of time
🗣I love Alexandar au Arcos🗣
Hit that mf reblog if you do too!
A letter from Pierce Brown 📚
My hard copy of Dark Age showed up early, and I finished this afternoon. Now what?!
