I've been a big fan of Jamil Suleman for a while, both as an artist and as a person. I always get the chills when I see him perform "Brendaz Baby" and this season he finally released a recording of it.
The song picks up where 2Pac's "Brenda's Got A Baby" left off. Ya, remember that song? If you do, you'll truly appreciate the work and thought that went into Jamil Suleman's #BrendazBaby

It was such a pleasure shooting this beautiful young woman. People may criticize or put down this young girl (she is only 21), but she never was without a smile on her face and a kind hello. I did not expect her so be so genuine to people backstage, but watching minute interactions with Miley and others, I am more of a fan then ever. She has the voice of a rockstar, the best body, and a whole lot of spunk. Go get em girl.

Trichome in the Chinatown-ID

I was hanging out with Tim Uomoto and Rob the other night for a post Thanksgiving. I was able to grab a few spring rolls before we headed out the door. My fault for arriving late. They wanted to go their friend's opening for his new smoke shop in the ID.
Alright, I'm down to roll with.
When we got there it turned out it was John Le's shop! This dude has been talking about pursuing a life of passion for years and finally fucking did it.
He never let his day job at the hospital interrupt his social life and I remember late nights out where he would be on call. This year he took the leap and opened Trichome in the ID.
The place was packed with a bunch of great people with smiling faces.
Here's how he describes his new endeavor:
"Trichome reflects a modern perspective on cannabis use and culture. Our product is influenced by materials, function and intriguing aesthetics. We offer innovative design that references a multitude of creative disciplines. Getting high is quickly evolving from stigmatized practice to casual ritual. With this change comes a new ease and understanding of what one might see in the household: jars of cannabis on the coffee table, a clean water pipe in the kitchen, and an updated outlook on medical and recreational use."

John Eklof, one of my favorite people in town, says he was put on Earth to do something – something big and for the greater good. This feeling of higher purpose keeps him motivated to keep going. I think we all share similar feelings and go home to ponder our thoughts and maybe even our worth. Well, If you know John Eklof personally, he's good at making what some keep personal, into a public conversation.
Yes, we're not alone.
He gives his philosophy (after absorbing many philosophies) on what it really means to connect and why today's society makes it hard to really connect or even recognize honest ways to connect.
"If you're gonna stay in the comfort zone, you're not going to grow," he says in his short documentary-like piece that was released with his new project, The Olympia Academy.
He dives into being mad at people, being mad at yourself, not understand why we're so mad all the time, and ultimately recognizing the energy of the universe. "I'm just trying to work with the laws of the universe," he says.
"I chose to name the album, The Olympia Academy, to honor Albert Einstein and his creative genius. In his late 20's, Einstein and two of his friends, Conrad Habicht, and Maurice Solovine would meet up regularly to discuss a variety of subjects such as mathematics, physics, philosophy and science. The group decided to call themselves the Olympia Academy to poke fun at the stuffiness of academia. These meetings had a profound influence on Einstein's intellectual development which would later help give him the inspiration to transform the consciousness of the world....This album title represents that regardless of what your circumstances are, no matter how challenging life may be, despite all of the trials and tribulations that you're going through-- by utilizing your imagination you can change anything." - John Eklof,

10 Reasons Why Northwest Music Is Amazing
This list is not in any particular order, nor is it finished. Making it up as I go because I haven’t possibly seen and experienced everything yet. In other words, this isn’t your usual list, it’s a list of gems.
4. Rappers cook for you
No, we didn't just turn into a food blog here.
In September Geo aka Prometheus Brown and his wife Chera hosted "Gumbo & Sh*t" a one-night pop-up restaurant and invited friends and family to come have them cook for them. It was also a fundraiser to help them take their family to the Philippines. Fundraiser or not, it was something everyone put on their calendar.
I got sick and didn't go so you bet I made sure to attend the second one, "Loco Moco & Sh*t."
It was great to see members from the community there, not just from the music community but the nonprofits, too. There were many familiar faces that you wouldn't necessarily see at a hip hop show.
I first met Geo while he was working at the Wing Luke Asian Museum in Seattle's International District. We worked together on the Chinatown-ID Spring Clean-up that my firm was contracted to organize. Nonprofits have always been a part of my life and at the time, I wasn't aware that George was Geo of The Blue Scholars. I just knew him as a member of the API nonprofit community. His wife, Chera, also works in the community as an activist and program director.
The food was amazing. There was quite a wait, as people packed into the restaurant all evening - not a big deal when there's good company.
