life comes as easily to nia as everything else. people say she’d been blessed with a kind heart, filled by the love of many and a never ending smile.
nia is a bright child, lovable and gifted, her world refusing to be dimmed. and it is easy, if nothing ever happens at all.
perfection comes with expectations, light smiles grow heavy, talent suddenly crafted with effort and yet it is still expected of her to remain the same, be the girl that never changes, a proof that a kind heart alone is enough to survive this cruel world.
still, she wants to keep believing, cling to an ever changing past, allowing naivety to cloud her judgment. she’d be the only harmed by her foolishness, until the day she wouldn’t. and it’s the day she meets someone, perhaps even allow herself a real emotion: love. and even when her best friend warns her, she refuses to believe to see the bad. after all if she does, it is proof that her heart has been allowed to be tainted.
when her mother dies, her heart breaks and she’s picking up pieces trying to make them stick, even when she grabbed all the wrong pieces. perhaps, that’s why she doesn’t shed a tear, refusing to change when the past is so much better.
and for a while, she’s granted the illusion of being fine, young, old, unbroken. unless it’s shattered again. good advice washed away by rain turning red, when she finds her best friend having taken their last breath alone. she was betrayed by love and naivety had betrayed her friend. and the person who claimed to love her is never found to be guilty, vanished, like every explanation that could've been given.
and suddenly you beg your heart to stay tender. you feel yourself slipping and unfold and yet you don’t want to leave behind the past. even if it has been so cruel.
To say that she missed the Spring Court would be an understatement. Sure, the Summer Court was nice, but it wasn't home, no matter how hard she tried to make it. She had been hunched over a notebook working on latest collection of sketches when the chime above the door rang and she looked up. Standing up, she smiled at the person who had entered. "Hi, welcome." She greeted. "Is there anything I can help you with today? Are you just looking? Need something custom made?" @ofcourtfablesarchive
the air still carried an edge of the recent events, only sanded with the effort of hope and the warmth that lingered. ever since nia had tried to soften it as well, glazing the usual easy smile that had been etched into her features long before all of this. when she entered, the chime above her gave a sweet melody, which barely lasted, yet still managed to match her steps perfectly. as her gaze fell on the familiar face, she brightened with recognition, the tension fading with her posture loosening. “ hi .” she greeted, leaning over slightly to eye the sketches. “ actually, i need something rather urgently. you wouldn’t happen to have something suitable for the celebration or some time to make something real quick ?”
