Rehearsal Solo From Collision Course - a.k.a. Pillow Talk from Anthony Gongora on Vimeo.
Between Seasons
Cold comes in
Swept from who knows where
Touches everything with stillness
Sound pulls back
Sheets of silence fill the empty
Hush hush - the sky's singular blue note
Branches quiver
Folios shiver lapping-up sunshine
Wind wraps around bundled bones clenching
Gut grinds
Heartbeats rapidly - ruminating
Inhaling the taste of season's sudden shift
Shadows deliriously dance through side window
Walls animated with jagged-edged silhouettes
Leafs retracting against chilly sunbeams
Pulsing this way and that way
Tempted to fall
Overlapping shadow upon shadow
Singularly, I lay
Covers pulled high
Wistfully longing
Reunions drift farther and farther apart
Clouds dissolving
Languishing
Teasing out amorphous impulses
I close my eyes
Daydreams turn to Mourning-dreams
Touch memories
Remember the missing
Translucent sleep forgot to wake
Spooning pillows in your place
I glance the sleepless side - hollow
Carved wood
Wet earth
Sleep's sweat-scent of two become one - gone
Nearness nevermore
Empty unknown growing
Ready for take-off
But as usual, underdressed for winter.
Guided Meditation from Anthony Gongora on Vimeo.
This is an example of how I would end a dance class. I like to use the final 7-10 minutes of class to help center students. My students love this part of the lesson. If for whatever reason I miss a day students request the meditation. I invite you to do the meditation with me.

Portal from Anthony Gongora on Vimeo.
Anthony Gongora new short dance film Portal is inspired by the various windows that sustain our gaze. Portals we merge into and through like computer screens. All of which evolved into a dystopian nightmare of leaving our bodies and becoming computerized. The pandemic caused us to move into Zooming. Reality became digitized. We did not have to have computer chips placed into our bodies to be more interactive with technology. Inadvertently the pandemic forced our hand. And in Gongora’s nightmare vision we have left our bodies and become digital through zoom. World Premiere April 22, 2021, 7:30 PM - Organized by The Corcoran School Of The Arts & Design at the George Washington University. GWU dancers Violet Radmacher- Willis, Hall Wood, Elle Mcneil, Sophia Young & Lisa Roberts give brilliant performances. Accompanying the dance film Gongora created his first-ever Sculpture of sounds.
Portal
Looking past your searching gaze
Words drift by
Scenting the air with light particles
Amorphous solid stuck
No crystal lattice
To climb
Outside
Ears tung tied
Hearing multitudes
Singularly seated
Staring into pixels
Vibrating decimals
Arching lumens layered quivering
Solitary songs chirp, bleep, twitter, and buzz
Cubes form before me
Rectangles of light posturing
Bust framed heart to crown
Silhouetted edges
Vacant
Lachrymal longing
Tearducts dehydrated
Evaporating memories
Dangle peripherally
Mouths moving
Pausing
Interrupting
Delayed time
Time-delayed
Face to face
Watch to eye
Glance the ticking arms
Gaps widen
Closeness
A tender touch
Through the looking glass
Every window watching
Fluttering lashes
Straining twin orbs
Glossed over
Fogged lenses
Forced focus
Seeing but not being
Soul to soul
Searching
Spiritual divide
Eyes once portals
Constricting pupils
Sucking in the light
Blacked-out

Quartet For 1 is a little dance video, which makes use of some classical composition tools. I start in unison, which is always so pleasing to the eye. There is something coded in our genetics that feels and knows the power of unity. Here I’m cheating a bit because it is only me dancing but the force in numbers still shines through. The next section is a canon. By chance, how I improvised the canon section also appears to rotate, which is cool. I follow the canon section with a duet double-timed. Speeding up movement is a great way to add an energy burst within a dance composition. In real-time, not cheating with video as I am here, double-timing is a challenge for dancers and so much fun to achieve. Between the movement sections - my codas if you will, I use stillness and gestures, and I introduce retrograde into the compositional mix. Counterpointing duets, come next. One couple is moving as I originally improvised and the other couple-me is dancing in retrograde. I love the complexity of the counterpoint. And, the switching of space from foreground to background between the duets. The music is by my dear and beloved friend David Pavkovic. Dave originally composed the music for another dance of mine, Last Turbulent Drought Supper. I recycled a section of the music for this dance and integrated the sound of my percussive feet connecting with the wood floor and my audible breathing. I did not compose or dance with Davids's music, I simply laid the music beside the dance, and by chance, the timing and feel of the two combined create something new to be interpreted. Enjoy! And more importantly, show the world your dance moves.
